    this considering touring model? The bags are small and don’t lock. The tires have tubes, why not offer a mag wheel option for same price so it can be plugged while on the road, tubes offer no such option. The front fender is bobbed, why? The classic has a full fender, touring means rain and a full sized fender deflects more of it. Lastly, rear shock range I believe is “2” inches. If that is true is really is stupid. Let’s see, I am 180 pounds, my wife is 145, then if full the saddle bags, those two inches are already gone. I would be better off with a big fendered Chieftain with an excellent air shock and larger hard bags that lock. Oh, I forgot, Indian dropped this model out of its line up. The new Chieftain is a copy of a Harley. No more Victory’s either, bummer.

    • @indianmotorcycleofelcajon
      @indianmotorcycleofelcajon 15 днів тому

      Yes, this is considered the touring model of the Scout line. As such, it has bags that match the size of the bike. Could you imagine Chieftain sized bags on this thing? It would look ridiculous. And if you prefer mags, you could check out one of the other models, like the Sport Scout, and add whatever bags you prefer. As for the fenders, considering the the look of the bobber sells much better than the look of the classic, I think it was a good choice. Practical or not. The rear shock on the Super Scout is 3 inches of travel. Not 2. Only the Scout Bobber has 2. But it wouldn't be gone either way as long as you're adjusting your preload properly. And the new Chieftain is the exact same frame and setup as the classic Chieftain, just with much more features. And it is still very much in production. If you want the classic style, Indian still makes it in the Roadmaster. Then you'd have all the storage you can ask for. Plus a Queen's Seat. Here, I'll tag the link for you so you can check it out. www.indianmotorcycle.com/en-us/roadmaster-motorcycles/roadmaster/

    • @phillipmeier2411
      @phillipmeier2411 15 днів тому

      @ thanks for the link but the Roadmaster is much too heavy for my liking. The chieftain has totally different shaped bags and a skinnier front tire than the prior chieftain. It looks like a Harley now. As for the 3 inches of travel on the scout, with the amount of weight I mentioned earlier, approximately 360 pounds, at least half or more of the travel would be used up, then encounter a bumpy or lousy road or highway expansion joints, I think the passenger would not be pleased. The new Scout looks good, but after adding different wheels and a few other options the price is headed over 20k out the door, too much for too little.

    Please please tell Indian that they need to add locks to their saddlebags. In my opinion they entirely are useless without them, especially for 'mini-touring'. I didn't go with the Super Chief for the same reason, no locking saddlebags. They cost nearly $900 in the parts department. Why would I ever pay that on something I'm not going to use? I bought a set of bags for my Scout Bobber 20 from Ends Cuoio that are better quality and cost about the same. And they have locks.

    • @indianmotorcycleofelcajon
      @indianmotorcycleofelcajon 2 місяці тому

      Yeah, we have had plenty of requests for this same thing. For most of the hard-case bags like on the Chieftains and Pursuits, they are electronically locking, luckily. But for the mid and full size cruiser, like the scouts and chiefs, they haven't made a locking set from factory, yet. But for those who like the idea of having storage without spending extra money on added parts, the Super Scout is the best option. We do love Ends Cuoio, though! Great quality bags but $450-$800 just for one side bag isn't for everyone.

    • @indianmotorcycleofelcajon
      @indianmotorcycleofelcajon 3 місяці тому

      The easy answer is that the Challenger is much more efficient with heat. But to what degree in comparison to your RG will depend on what you actually have. Between the air and oil cooled Twin Cam, the Milwaukee, and even the new RG, they all run hot in my opinion. While the new RG has liquid cooled heads, the PowerPlus engine on the Challenger is completely liquid cooled and maintains its temperature much more efficiently. To find out for yourself, you should ride one. We do test rides all the time. Are you around the Socal area?

    0:36 Doesn't this bike have 30 less horsepower than the new scouts? It isn't even more powerful than the old scouts, unless you count the Scout 60 that has about the same horsepower.

    • @indianmotorcycleofelcajon
      @indianmotorcycleofelcajon 3 місяці тому

      You are absolutely right. BUT it also has 38 more ft lbs of torque that the scouts. Both hp and torque play a role in the powerband in different ways.

    • @Rhetorical346
      @Rhetorical346 3 місяці тому

      @@indianmotorcycleofelcajon no, horsepower moves vehicles. People who talk about torque generally have no idea what they're talking about. Torque firgures just describe how much horsepower an engine is making at a particular RPM. Horsepower is derived from a formula that will tell you how much wheel torque you can produce using gearing. That's what actually matters.

    • @indianmotorcycleofelcajon
      @indianmotorcycleofelcajon 3 місяці тому

      Almost. Torque is what gets your motorcycle moving from a standstill and helps it climb hills or tow heavy loads. It’s the “oomph” you feel when you rotate the throttle. By definition, torque is a measure of the rotational force applied to an object. Horsepower, on the other hand, is a measure of the rate at which work is done. Horsepower determines the top speed and acceleration of your bike. It’s what keeps you moving at high speeds.

    • @Rhetorical346
      @Rhetorical346 3 місяці тому

      @@indianmotorcycleofelcajon one part of your comment is correct, horsepower determines your acceleration. Torque measured at the motor is nearly meaningless in the grand scheme of things. Torque at the WHEEL is what matters. And how do we get torque at the wheel? Conveniently, horsepower is a formula that describes how much wheel torque your engine can produce using gearing. That's what you feel when you rotate the throttle, WHEEL TORQUE. That OOMPH is horsepower, not torque. Because as you said, it's horsepower that is accelerating the bike.

    • @indianmotorcycleofelcajon
      @indianmotorcycleofelcajon 3 місяці тому

      What can I say? You seem to know it all. Well done. Regardless, it sounds like a traditional pushrod engine, like the Thunderstroke, is not for you as it is designed for more torque than horsepower. You would be much happier with a DOHC engine in a Scout, FTR, or Challenger.

    whats different with the base chieftain thats the bike im interested in an is there a big diffrence between the 111 an the 116 motor

    • @indianmotorcycleofelcajon
      @indianmotorcycleofelcajon 3 місяці тому

      Its more than just the engine. Yes, the 111 has less torque at 119 ft lbs, but there is also an aesthetic difference and a feature difference. The base Chieftain will have more matte finishes than gloss specifically around the engine and in the cockpit. For features, the base will not come with navigation, tpms, or electronically locking saddlebags. It also only comes in Black Metallic right now. But it does give you the Thunderstroke, Ride Command, fork-mounted fairing, saddlebags, and touring suspension for a much lower price.

      Sorry for the delayed response. Had to do some research for you. For previous years, the switch was an option on some international Dark Horse models, not on US models. For all of my inventory here on 2024s, it is standard. Luckily, they all use the same wire harness and it does look like it can be added on. It will require part #4014289 and two screws part #7516610. This should work for both 2022s and 23s. Any Chiefs previous to 2022, it will not work as those were different models all together.

    • @indianmotorcycleofelcajon
      @indianmotorcycleofelcajon 5 місяців тому

      Mostly because Indian Motorcycle doesn't list the horsepower under their specs. For reference, the Thunderstroke 116 in a Springfield, Chieftain, or Roadmaster has 92 HP. Since the Chief line was tuned less for the reduced weight, it is 87 HP on the Chief with the 116. Remember, the Thunderstroke is a pushrod engine built for low end torque. A DOHC engine, like the the 2025 Scout, will be built for more HP as it comes with up to 111 HP, even though it is only 1250cc.

The GPS is slow and often not only doesn't recognize any addresses, but also doesn't know where we are half the time. The trip computer is cumbersome to load, stops tracking halfway through my rides, and won't upload rides to the app. I do like the Community and Service Schedule functions.

    • @indianmotorcycleofelcajon

      The flashing screen is just because of the frame rate of the video taken. It has nothing to do with the quality of the bike.

      BTW, video records frames per second unlike human eyes. The screen does NOT flicker. Has to do with the video recording, smh. Try looking at different LED large tail lights and LCD screens through a video recorder on different frame per second settings and you will see what I mean.

    The main beef I have with this system is the laggy response and insanely slow startup time. Every review I see of this system mentions the the slow startup time. Are you all planning to address these issues in future models? I would be inclined to forgo this for the standard analog kit.

    • @indianmotorcycleofelcajon
      @indianmotorcycleofelcajon 6 місяців тому

      No idea what you mean by laggy response. All of ours are pretty responsive. As for startup time, I don't know about you but when I turn my phone on, it takes a minute to boot up. However, if it makes you more confident to stay with the analog display, go for it. Just keep in mind for the current model year chiefs, you would be getting the smaller engine also.

      Unfortunately, not. The 4in display screen comes as an accessory now, but only the 2025 models are equipped for it. I wish it was as easy as a plug-and-play option for previous years, but it won't work.

    Hey Christian do Indian offer any kind of variation on the 101 handlebar set up? In its stock set up I think the reach will put me in an uncomfortable position….will there be any kind of “reduced reach” configuration as per previous generation scout? Appreciate any advice. Thanks

    • @indianmotorcycleofelcajon
      @indianmotorcycleofelcajon 6 місяців тому

      Yes! The 101 will come with 6in risers and moto handlebars from the factory. There will also be a 4in riser and a 10in riser as options. But beyond that, Indian Motorcycles will still make the standard handlebars, reduced reach, extended reach, 10in mini apes, and beach handlebars. As far as we know, every one of those options will be interchangeable between the scouts but you may want to change the risers to the 4in i you do any of those. You will also get the new option for mid-control pegs! Best piece of advice is to test ride one as soon as you can and make your own decision based on those needs.

    • @indianmotorcycleofelcajon

      Yes and no? The Ride Command on the new 2025 scouts will allow you to control the music from your phone in your helmet from the left control cube, and full navigation with turn-by-turn directions will come with the bike. But you will not be able to use Apple CarPlay. That is reserved for the larger screens. So any navigation planning will have to be done either on the Ride Command screen or the Ride Command Website.

    1: that tac is useless as tits on a bore hog! WHEN that tac goes out your bike is a giant paperweight! I am so tired of useless disposable technology! I want a set of gages and I want a cable throttle! I want a bike that I can depend on and work on. 2: The only rodeo any bike should have is communication. You have to ride like you're invisible because people don't see you. If you have music blasting in your ear then you're not going to see or hear the guy behind you that didn't see you stop! It sux when you have to dive off your bike and watch it get eaten by a vehicle! Format and start over guys!

      Well, believe it or not, the vast majority of riders don't want to spend unnecessary time wrenching on their bike. They would rather be riding. And it sound like you've got some pretty bad experiences with your previous choice of motorcycle. You should give an Indian a try. And don't worry, we still have some pre-owned with analog gauges and cable throttle for all the traditionalists out there. Ride safe!

      Matthew, we use that term of trim level to help people understand the differences when comparing the Chief Dark Horse, and Chief Bobber Dark Horse. Those two, plus the Sport Chief, all have the same engine, frame, and technology. For most, that makes it easier to value the suspension upgrade and accessory changes.

    • @indianmotorcycleofelcajon
      @indianmotorcycleofelcajon 7 місяців тому

      Hey, William! Great question. Here is how to do it: 1. On the Ride Command Website, you plan your route as normal: Set your stops in the proper order and click the boxes for any "Avoid Routing Options" then click "Save" 2. Once the route is planned and saved, on the left side of the screen you will see a button with an arrow pointing down to a line. This is the "Download" button. It can be found to the right of the "Edit" and "Share" buttons and under the "3D Flyover." 3. Once downloaded, move the gpx file to your memory stick and there you go. But there is an easier way: As long as you are logged into your Ride Command Account on your motorcycle, any saved routes that you have created on the website should auto-populate to your Chieftain without the use of a thumb drive.
