Mindful Monk Sr 4, Ep 9: 'Amen'
There are times, such as the times we are in, when we are stretched to the limit and all we can muster is 'Amen' to life. Yes to God. I will go on. Yes.

What is a swarm of bees? Here I explain what a swarm is and show how I caught a swarm high up in the trees.
Mindful Monk Sr 4, Ep 7: Dr. Tony Bates' Favourite Psalm.
Переглядів 1,6 тис.3 роки тому
Tony reveals his favourite psalm and tells me why it is important to him.
Mindful Monk Sr 4, Ep 6: The Beauty of Ferns
Переглядів 9353 роки тому
I find ferns some of the most beautiful and fascinating of plants. They are "in between" plants. They have made it onto dry land but just! Like frogs, they need water, for their very human like sperm, to swim to the egg. Hence you will find them thriving in damp, wet places. The adult fern produces a spore which grows into a small thumbnail sized plant called a prothallus which is the platform ...

Mindful Monk Sr 4, Ep 3: The Bountiful Elder
Переглядів 8983 роки тому
The elder bush is bountiful. You can use its flowers, which are just coming out in Ireland, to make fritters, delicious and refreshing cordial, and sparkling wine and then the berries for making wine! Why not try it...?
Mindful Monk Sr 4, Ep 2: The Magic of Nasal Breathing
Переглядів 1,2 тис.3 роки тому
This clip looks at the benefits of nose breathing . Only dogs and sick animals use their mouth to breathe. Our nose performs over 30 functions which we miss out on if we breathe through our mouths. We MUST get back to breathing through our nose day and night. The difference it makes is incredible.
Mindful Monk Sr 4, Ep 1: The Divine Artist
Переглядів 1,4 тис.3 роки тому
The Holy Spirit is the 'Divine Artist' sent to teach us what we need to know and what we need to do. The Holy Spirit has been much neglected, I presume because no institution wants to have someone other than themselves directing people and teaching them. An unpredictable Holy Spirit is a bit hot to handle!
Mindful Monk Sr 3, Ep 16: Empty Cupboards

Have we left our selves empty - our cupboards empty of self and of God? Psalm two has some interesting to say to us at this time.

Mindful Monk Sr 3, Ep 13: 'Alive and Active', Scripture for Holy Week
Переглядів 8383 роки тому
I have struggled to make sense of the bible. Among other things the language put me off. Now, thanks in large part to a new translation, I have come to appreciate how it can be 'formational in my life.' During Holy Week we are bathed in scripture so I hope to be ready to receive it better this year.
Mindful Monk Sr 3, Ep 12: Breath as Information
Переглядів 1,2 тис.3 роки тому
The way we breath provides vital information for our brain. Fast, shallow breathing spells danger and triggers the flight or fight response. Slow, deep breathing tells the brain that things are safe and you can relax and you do. It is important to check your rate of breathing per minute.
Mindful Monk Sr, 3 Ep, 11: Stress Reduction: Open Focus Attention
Переглядів 2,1 тис.3 роки тому
This video explains the benefit of Open Focus Attention. It has an exercise at the end to demonstrate the benefit of objectless open focus. If a lion is sitting out on the savannah and is not looking at anything in particular, its focus is wide open. If a limping gazelle comes into view the lion's focus narrows and this is a cue for its 'fight physiology' to kick in. This is very useful in the ...

Hello Fr Simon my name is John Donovan and I live in Cheltenham Gloucestershire, I am finding your talks helpful and supportive, I am an X monk having tried my vocation at Quarr in the nineteen seventy’s , I was very young and vulnerable, I had lost my mother before I even got to know her properly. I have spent many years in therapy, being listed to, through my suffering I like you am able to now help others. I still suffer from time to time with self doubt, or depression, thankfully I accept it as part of me, I get the feeling from listening to you that you accept your suffering too, I go back to Quarr for short stay now, for many years it was a place of too much pain, I do do see now that Christ was with me at that time as he is now, I now find the wisdom of St Benedict very helpful, mindful, I may have left contemplative life at Quarr but contemplative life has never left me. Yours in Christ John

So glad I happened upon this, and caught up with you two. I was a lowly law student in Balnagowan 72-75 but you two were always so immersed in philosophical discussions I was barely noticed! Great to see you both looking so well. With best regards Peter Jones Roscommon

I hope that you can enjoy the summer and if you decide not to return to your channel as once was then you will post the occasional video to let us know how you are.
