Bikepacking Melbourne to Sydney! - Episode 1: Croydon to Bairnsdale.
Переглядів 29 тис.3 місяці тому
The start of my Bikepacking trip from Melbourne to Sydney (well, Croydon to Coledale but close enough..). First time doing anything like this, filming or editing anything like this too haha, so bare with me. Heavily inspired by the legend @EdPratt to do something like this. Day 1 covers Croydon to Yallourn North, and Day 2 onwards toward Bairnsdale. Playlist of songs I listened to on this trip:...

Danny Donehue - Avoiding my Emotions Started this project in mid 2019 and felt the need to get vocals. This was my first time working with and recording a vocalist in my own bedroom studio. I've spent countless hours meticulously adjusting the sound design and adding atmosphere to make this song breathe & portray the emotions that I had envisioned for it. Nice series but what is wrong with your voice ?
Very good Danny. Just binged the entire 9 episodes, looks like something I'd like to do...
@@MiniLuv-1984 That’s awesome, thanks for watching! Yeah definitely consider it, I’d recommend to take several extra days if you can afford the time :) good luck :)
👍👍
Great effort Danny.!!
Cheers bro 😃
Sensational ride. What a massive effort. I'm living my bike pack dreams through you. Maybe one day I'll attempt a smaller distance or even bump into you on the bike trails in Melbourne.
Hey mate, thanks for watching the series :D Love to hear you've enjoyed 'em :) Honestly, outside of my commute to work I haven't done all that much riding since, but I'm feeling like I need to get back out there myself.
@@dannydonehue I've been enjoying my move over to path and gravel cycling after 35-odd years of riding Melbourne's roads. The traffic has become too aggressive against cyclists, and the gravel trails take a more scenic and relaxed pace away from most pedestrians and gives my brain a reset. It's been nearly 2 years since I was out Croydon way and I'm thinking I need to drag my sorry butt up Tarralla Creek Trail again.
Been watching the progress for weeks and I am absolutely loving this series mate. Well done! Probably not doing a long ride like this but it makes me want to ride my bike more😊
Thanks heaps! :) Yeah, I likely wouldn’t have had the push to do this without having watched other videos on UA-cam inspiring me. It’s never a bad choice to go out on a ride 🤙
Incredible effort Danny. Congratulations on the achievement and thanks for the entertainment along the way.
@@quark666-z3x Thanks mate :D Proud of the accomplishment and that I finally finished editing the series 😅
@dannydonehue I hear you mate! I can tell you that it was worth the time and effort. My partner and I really enjoyed the series-some of those climbs had us feeling the burn right from our couch! 😄
Very enjoyable watch. Thanks for putting in the effort to record, edit and produce this to share with us all. Now the wind seems to have died down, Im thinking Ill go for a ride too. You have shown you don['t need heaps of stuff. Just the right attitude.
Hey Andrew, no worries! Had a lot of fun putting together this series. the weather lately would be perfect for getting out on a trip. Yeah definitely, just got to get out there and have fun. Good luck, hope it al goes well! ✌️
congratulations, really enjoyed watching you complete this adventure.
Thanks mate! ✌️
Great effort on completing the ride. Guessing when you started planning this thing you were thinking about issues with the heat... but seems like you encountered your fair share of rain. Hope you have replaced your spoke - the J style spokes on your wheel I find to be way more prone to braking than straight-pull ones. Thanks for the video series
Yeah I was definitely more scared of a heatwave than the rain. In the end I think I was quite lucky weather-wise. Most of the trip was quite mild, overcast with the occasional hot day. I think the rain at the end although annoying at the time, ended up being a great way to finish! Wouldn’t have wanted to get that drenched half way through 🥶🥶.
Thanks for sharing, Danny! What a journey!
Thanks for watching. Yeah it was great! 😄
Well done. I’ve really enjoyed your trip. Great to see a welcoming party at the end, even in the rain 😀
Thanks Mark! Yeah I’m so grateful for my wife, dog and brother in law waiting out in the rain for me and getting that awesome final clip! 😄
Thanks Danny !. Looking forward to the next one 🙂
So am I haha, going to have to start planning something soon. Maybe sometime next year 🤔
Great job dude, liked this very much, cheers from Canada
Thanks bro! 🤙
What an awesome adventure. Loved every minute of it. Your honesty in your filming in showing the tough parts as well as the fun parts was very inspiring. Glad to see that your wife & dog were also as enthusiastic as you. Brilliant vid and thankyou for taking us along for an amazing trip. 🎉 Congrats 🎉
Really enjoyed your journey
Glad you enjoyed it :D
Brilliant stuff
Thanks Ben :)
Fabulous effort Danny with a great ending too, superb.
Thanks Andy! Appreciate it :)
Great series mate, congratulations on finishing!
Thanks Pat 🤙🤙
Epic final video, Danny!
@@ericfon5637 Thanks bro 😎 I appreciate you 🤜🤛
Well done.
Thanks John 😃
well done, that's a tough ride for anyone.
Yeah it was quite tough at times, I was kind of surprised that my body adapted and kept up with it. 🤗
Way to go Danny. What an achievement! Perfect ending.
Hey, thanks for watching! Yeah it was quite an achievement, proud of it, and now I get to enjoy watching it whenever I want :)
Well done. Good effort. Well documented.
Hey , glad you enjoyed it :) Appreciated seeing your comments throughout.
It's a great way to finish a long bike ride - the greetings, the holiday. Tassie next?
Thanks! Yeah Tassie is definitely a top competitor for where I'd like to go bikepacking next.
You made it!
Thanks Ling!
Good stuff
Thanks Mate :D
There's a path that goes all the way from warilla (where you stopped for McDonals) all the way to Thirroul, but on the eastern side of the road. Would have saved you the big intersection at Cringila/Port Kembla
Hey Juzzy, yeah that could have been a decent time saver! Bit late to help me now, but hopefully people use this series as a resource for bikepacking this way and come across your comment :D
Epic ride!
Thanks mate, yeah I had a blast on this trip :)
Dude finally got around to watching this episode! Huge kudos for cycling the whole way and meeting you. Hearing about your trip gave me inspiration to do mine!
@@nigel_abello Hey man, thanks for watching! It’s been awesome seeing your updates on your Europe trip, crazy to think that I helped inspire such a huge trip. I’d love to do something similar someday 🤞
Ha, Dalmeny IGA shutting at 6pm (according to a quick Google) is something to be aware of if I ever head this way I reckon.
Haha yeah, definitely something to watch out for. I knew I was late but like, surely a single shop should have been open? Nope 🫠 backup food coming in clutch.
Thanks for the journey. Appreciate your effort to share the journey with us.
Hey Damo, no worries! It’s been a fun project and I’m excited to finish off the last episode.
@@dannydonehue Hate to give you homework, But can you share details of your bike, and equipment….. 🙏
@@damo5219 Haha, not a problem! Can have a look in the description for most of the stuff I used. Otherwise Im considering eventually down the line making a ‘what I packed’ type setup video.
From Ballarat … familiar with some of your route and would appreciate a link to Strava, Komoot etc.
@@ianccrook8899 hey mate, thanks for watching :) Links to the ridewithgps files are in the description of each video
This is great mate!!!
Thanks man, appreciate it!! :D
Hey everyone, thanks for watching! The next episode is going to be the finale to this series and I'm going to be giving myself extra time to finish it off as I wouldn't be able to make it how I like within the week. So likely no video this Thursday, but do Subscribe to get notified when I finish the series finale, I'll make sure its worth it. Thankyou!
Loving your ride!!
@@savethebeeeez Thanks Sarah! 😄
Love it!
Thanks bro!🤙🤙
Gotta say you seem to be holding up pretty well with all those kays in the legs. I don't really see any obvious signs of stiff movement in the videos... oh to be young again 🙂
Yeah I felt like I surprised myself everyday with what I was achieving, first time really doing any kind of long distance cycling. Hadn't done anything over 100km until a fortnight before this trip which completely ruined me.
Thanks so much for sharing this journey, well done mate.
Thanks mate, glad you're enjoying it :D
Enjoying the videos. I reckon those spacers for the bolts on the racks are too big causing a lot of stress on the bolt. Are you able to flex racks in and eliminate the spacers?
Hey, the spacers are welded to the rack so that’s not an option. Was quite a budget rack compared to what’s out there but it did the job ($60 new). Will remember to check my bolts next time, and maybe consider some loctite.
Thank goodness for the humble mac n cheese!
Glad I had some spare easy meals with me for times like this :) Saving the day!
I might have to give it a go as a hiking food. I never really tried it before. Looks like an easy backup option.
@@JamesRowlandsRocks yeah definitely an easy backup to bring. I wouldn’t plan on eating it every day though haha, not sure what nutritional benefits easy Mac provides 🤔.
@@dannydonehue that's what I was thinking. It also might add some variety. Most of the meals I take are ones I dehydrate myself, so I'd save some time too.
Tough day. We really like those bike paths around Tathra, and between Narooma and Dalmeny, But the Princes Highway sections you had to do are very scary. Again, you achieved huge kilometres. Hats off to you.
That last stretch of paths into Dalmeny was incredible. This day was a killer haha, thanks :)
that camping spot 🤣🤣
Haha yeah, it feels weird being allocated a caravan & car sized patch of grass and setting up a 1p tent.
Another good video. I showed parts of it to my wife because it covered lots of where we rode together just last week. We loved those trestle bridges. We are amazed at just how many kilometres you achieve each day. Especially carrying all your camping gear. When I'm bikepacking I only aim at about half your distances each day. Although, being retired, means I can take my time.
The trestle bridges were awesome to see, well worth to see them in person to take in their sheer scale. Was a great ride through east Gippsland. I recon when I plan another trip, I'd be happy to reduce my km's per day significantly and spend more time exploring the places along the way.
Great video series, really enjoyed them! Thanks so much for sharing with us!!!!
Thanks Walt, it's been great to share this trip & hear how people have been enjoying it! :D
