I believe the timeline he’s referring to is when the Attitude Era first began in the WWF. If he’s strictly talking about the very beginning, I agree that it wasn’t all that great. However, the era that most people loved really took off during the buildup to WrestleMania 14, when Stone Cold won the WWF title against Shawn Michaels, with Mike Tyson as the enforcer and the Undertaker vs Kane. In my opinion, that’s the point where the Attitude Era truly gained momentum, and that’s the period people tend to think of when they talk about the Attitude Era.

Every Generation had their heroes the analogy I can give is: BabyBoomers & Gen X: DrJ (Magic & Bird) Old Old School Wrastlin GenX: MJ & WWF Superstars Millenials: AI & Kobe (really the 96 Draft Class) WWF Attitude Era Roster Were there other greats beside DrJ, Magic, Bird & MJ Back then? Of course, but people's "best social memories" fro that generation are mostly associated with those players, and debating their greatness etc For millenials, we were introduced to more diverse personalities in sports and entertainment AND marketing associated those characters with the social climate of rebellion, having fun and "being cool" you cant divorce the attitude era from the culture of the times, and now that EVERYTHING is scripted, we yearn for a time where we believed these things were almost real... Yeah I agree. It is vastly overrated. A lot of the matches were overrated and so many bad storylines and weird random showings of random wrestlers. I think it gets so much pop because of the wrestlers like Austin, Rock, HHH, Kane and etc. WWE today is much better with direction.
