Pokemon Gaia (v3.2): Rival Battle 3
It's been a while since we've last fought Coulter, so naturally his team is even better than before. His Makuhita has evolved into a Hariyama, still going for Fake Out on the first turn. His Swablu has evolved into an Altaria, which can be a bit tricky to take out unless you're running an ice type. His Roggenrola evolved into a Boldore, I'm still surprised it didn't go for Iron Defense immediately. And of course his starter is fully evolved now.
Starting from this battle onwards, his team will be fully rounded out with its last two members. One of them is a Rotom currently in its base form, which can hit decently hard with Shock Wave and weaken your physical attack with Will-O-Wisp's burn. Lastly he has an eeveelution that is determined by your starter, so he has a Flareon since I chose Piplup (I haven't done too many runs with a starter other than Piplup, so I'm unsure what his other eeveelutions are. I know I've seen him with a Vaporeon at some point though).
The eeveelutions tend to be on the bulky side, but I've never had any personal problems against them.
The reason some of the video lacks sound effects is because there's planned OST for Pokemon Gaia's v4 release (whenever this will be, it seems to be in developmental limbo last time I checked) and I wanted to see how some of the songs would be like played as they're meant to in this version. Please support the creator of the rom hack, Spherical Ice, as the rom hack and OST belong to him. (And if you're reading this, Spherical, and you want the videos removed due to the usage of the unreleased OST, let me know and I'll remove the video)

Pokemon Gaia (v3.2): Valoon Gym Battle
Переглядів 154 місяці тому
It's finally time for Gym 4, and this one once again ramps up the difficulty by adding Mega Evolution to the mix. Vernon might have just gotten his ace, but he knows how to use it well. Vernon's strategy is pretty sound; Shuckle is typically used to set up Sticky Web to slow your team down, then his remaining 3 pokemon will typically pivot between each other with the move U-Turn, dealing strong...

Marowak is a great, easy option that's very easily noticeable. The swimmer on the left even directly states that there's a Secret Temple right there with a Marowak in it. The Marowak is the perfect level for this point in the game and it starts with great moves; Bone Club, Thunderpunch, Iron Head, and Double-Edge. I'd have to say the worst move it has is Bone Club since it's the weakest and has...

If you backtrack to Aerous Road with Surf, you can find Growlithe in a hidden grotto right outside the city. This little guy has a pretty good starting moveset, it comes with Will-o-Wisp, Flame Charge, Crunch, and Double Kick; not a bad moveset at all. It can be pretty handy for the next gym, though it'll start to struggle later down the line. Fortunately, you should be able to evolve it whenev...

Once you gain access to Surf, a lot of things open up to you earlier in the game and among these are a few secret pokemon. Exeggutor can be found on Archan Hills by surfing to the east side. This pokemon can be pretty strong if used right, Grass/Psychic is an interesting typing, but there are a few things holding it back. Namely, it struggles HARD for the next few gyms due to being weak to both...

Belle can be a bit of a difficulty spike if you aren't prepared. Firstly, you battle her not long after the 3rd gym and her team is already 4 levels higher on average than Nina's pokemon. Then, there's the fact she has a stacked team really early in the game, having 5 pokemon, all of them at least competent, and one of them is a Mega Evolution. Speaking of, let's talk about that Mega Evolution;...

Time for the Windmist City Gym at long last! In my opinion, this is the easiest gym battle in the game, but do not for a second take Nina too lightly, she can be tough if not snuffed out quickly. Her fire type team has one simple strategy: spam Flame Charge then punish once her pokemon's speed is high enough. Flame Charge raises the user's speed every time it's used, meaning one or two uses and...

We finally confront the first of the Elder Knights, the admins of the New Elders. Eunice is primarily an ice type specialist, and you'll notice a theming that each of the Elder Knights specialize, or at least have an ace, having at least one type shared with the Regi they're associated with. Eunice can be tricky to deal with since two of her pokemon have Snow Warning to keep a perpetual hailsto...

After reaching Nestpine Town, we're tasked with taking on the second gym, which houses flying type pokemon. Normally flying types aren't the hardest type to take down (unless your opponent is called Winona), but this is a huge exception to that trend. Here's how Aria's pokemon fight. Coulter's added some new pokemon to his team. From now on, he'll always lead with Makuhita or Hariyama and always start with Fake Out unless you're using a ghost type. This is to get some chip damage on you at the start of the battle. Afterwards, his other two staples are Roggenrola, which normally goes for Iron Defense immediately, I'm surprised it didn't here, and Swablu, which I typically ne...
Pokemon Gaia (v3.2): Secret Pokemon 3 - Maractus

Up on Nestpine Climb, there's another hidden grotto that's admittedly pretty hard to miss. This one contains Maractus, a pokemon that is ironically remembered due to how forgettable it is. You can catch it for the dex since this is the only one in the game, it would be really difficult to use in this game. Majority of the game's major battles are VERY unkind to grass types (for reference, gyms ...

On Aerous Road, there's the first instance of a Hidden Grotto. These act identically to Secret Temples, they usually hold either rare pokemon or items, just that they're hidden in the trees rather than in a cave or mountainside. This is actually located near the beginning of the path, so you can visit this before challenging the Seros Gym. And I strongly recommend doing so, Venonat can be a *hu...

@@Toon.Hamstreak_658 A lot of people miss the point of me using switch mode. I'm bad at video games, that's true, but that's not why I use Switch mode. It's because I went through the whole game with my team of 6 pokemon, I wanted to prove to myself that I could use all 6 of them equally in these battles, even if some of the matchups put me at a major disadvantage. It also is more interesting to watch that way; compare the views of this video with the Set Mode version I did, the difference in views and comments is night and day. Plenty of people have already made fun of me for using switch mode and you certainly won't be the last. But hopefully a small change of perspective can make any future watches more interesting for you.

@@darkentity7981 Understood, but I play your way whilst in set mode. I consider it a loss if all of my teammates didn't contribute to the battle. And having set mode forces me to be smart about my switches.

@@Toon.Hamstreak_658 It certainly adds another layer of strategy, that's for sure. An example from the set mode version of this run was how I handled the rival's Alakazam. It was brought in to answer my Gengar, and knowing it was about to get one-shotted, I had it use Destiny Bond to take down the Alakazam with it. While set mode is not my cup of tea, I do admit that it makes successful runs more impressive.

Playing on easy mode … what are you 5 years old lol. Your supposed to play the elite four on SET BATTLES (no switching). All your doing is intentionally switching to a Pokémon that will one shot the opponent not giving the CPU a fair chance. Then your using held items in battle wtf.
