Hmmm... i think the issue with this criticism is due to lack of understanding of japanese culture on what the anime portraits the reality of everyday life but ofc in a charming way, you see culturally in japan a lot of grown up people lives alone to work independently and open their own shops and because they are alone to work by themselves everyday some may have companions to talk with and ofc if youre alone then why dont you talk to your cat? Sounds silly and funny but i guess this is what the anime is all about. A lonely girl who openned a business ramen shop where cats instead of mascots they are her workers in metaphorically what she is when she is working irl on the ramen shop

Not everything needs to be taken with heavy criticism especially when some statements are proven false by watching the show or having some basic knowledge, like knowing what a tiger is, please bro take a chill pill you're allowed to watch for fun.

I really enjoyed the first season, but having Mark's voice as Larry's took me out of it a bit. Unless it's supposed to be like he's hearing himself as Dave, given that Larry is shown to be a totally different person later. I know they're sort of having fun with pointing at Mark having a very nice voice, but it was so distinctly him that it definitely reminded me "oh yeah, this is Mark" rather than getting absorbed in Dave's story. Now, it would have been fine for when he's actually in the dream to have it transition to be Mark's voice, as that's a very dream thing to do, but it was my one gripe with the show production. Mark is a good actor too. I wanted to see him as his character, not him acting, if that makes sense. Which I think he did well with other than that. A small gripe to be sure, but one I couldn't get out of my head. It might also be that I over-analyze on a usual basis, but I actually felt like the elephant bong and other symbols were a bit too obvious/on the nose, though I do come from having listened to the story originally. Oh and just a fun little tidbit, since I can't unsee it every time I watch anything, doing CPR is not at all like they show in movies. You would never have someone else take over and you need to press hard enough to reach the heart, which usually means you will break their ribs. It's also very unlikely to work, but always worth trying. I get why in movies they don't show the reality of it, because you can't stop as you're the mechanical pump for the heart to even have a chance to keep them alive, but I also know people pick up IRL things from movies and do assume that it can't be that far off. There are a lot of little things I can't not think about now watching films now that I know the reality of them. That was one I instantly thought of in episode 1. This was interesting to watch. I didn't know about elephant symbolism, but I've always associated whales to dream like things and also kind of haunting, given that their call can sound either creepy or soothing. I like the idea that the spooky sea mammal is the "good guy" and the elephant is the evil one. I recently watched another film in which elephants were seen as bad guys, and then there's James and the Giant Peach with the creepy rhino, so big land mammals being powerful and scary is an interesting thing. Wasn't too impressed by the grotesque elephant guy though. I wish they'd gone with a more eldritch horror look instead of anything that felt like a dude in costume (even though the latex/effects/make up is really good, I felt like it diminished the creepy impact, especially compared to the CGI elephant with glowing eyes in the storm, which actually made me feel uncomfortable seeing and I'm not scared of elephants generally.) Hope you do a deep dive on the other eps too. Would love to hear thoughts on the doctor who has the dream machine. He was such an odd character. Was he manipulated by the elephant the whole time to even make the thing so that that he could attempt to get at Dave better than what he'd already tried all the time? Dave clearly has some special ability or something to survive all these years form the many attempts on his life. The doctor felt odd the whole time, which I can't help but think is intentional.
