Not sure what you mean. You can't hear the tonal differences when only using partial chord shapes in open tuning? For sure more subtle than an entire chord shape but when played in a song or performance, it definitely creates a new sound. I'd play around with them and see what you come up with. If I misunderstood the comment, let me know.

@ With any tuning and for whatever reason, the sound is most important. To me the droning and duplicate notes merge and become uninspiring.

Fair enough. I enjoy Open D and G but I'm experimenting with a few others. I also understand that, for certain voicings, playing only 3 or 4 strings is far better than playing all of them. In any case, thanks for stopping to comment.

I had a bit of an epiphany... or a smack on the head moment. I'm going to record a new original - acoustic - and a cover, each week. Also, going to create a video with an update of what I'm working on for live gigs, recordings, and about the songs selected that week. There is a story behind this song. I wrote it in 2007, right after a monsoon flood destroyed our home in Arizona. But I'll save the story for the video. ;-)

Hey Kip. Super simple. I am using my cell phone for the video - Samsung S22. I have a Zoom H4Essentials mic slightly above me to the right (so that my vocals are not drowned out by the guitar). The H4 captures two channels - though, basically the same. I bring the video and audio into DaVinci Resolve and use the auto-sync to waveform, which sync's the separate audio to the video audio. I mute the video audio and then apply a little reverb and a PSP channel strip to the audio. Ha.. that probably doesn't sound super simple. But it really isn't bad. I guess I'll make a video. ;-)

Well.. no issue with me putting myself out there. Getting ready for a gig on Saturday. Although, it's been awhile since I posted any sort of performance video. Might have to get back to that.

I agree that full strumming on some chord shapes can be muddy or too full. This is especially true for chords using strings 4, 5, & 6. I guess, as with most things music, it comes down to awareness and taste. Specifically, for Marie, because the bass line runs down string 5 and 6, fingerpicking was necessary. My song, Coward and the Fool, uses the "same" tuning but capo'd on 5 (Open C). The chords are generally focused on strings 1-4 and when strings 5 or 6 are included, other strings are muted or de-emphasized. I appreciate you taking the time to stop by and comment.

Glad you enjoyed. It is likely I'll be reposting new versions of these songs and removing these. I've upgraded the recorder I'm using for live performances and it should stop any clipping. All of these recordings had a degree of clipping.

Thanks Andy! It is one that I really enjoyed writing and love to play. I ordered the Zoom Recorder with the 32 bit float and hope to have non-clipping versions of many of these songs after my gig on the 20th.

Thanks Joe. Very much appreciated! I ran sound from the board to my Zoom recorder but, unfortunately, had the gain too high and clipped a little. I'm picking up one of the new Zoom recorders with the 32 bit float. My understanding is they avoid that entire issue.

It was "warm". I'm out again on the 20th. It definitely got nicer during the 2nd half.
