      Unfortunately I haven’t had a chance to lay hands on the new Kuiu rig. I hear what you’re saying but that’s also kinda the nice thing about the FHF rig. You get to customize it and buy what you want or what you need and not not what you don’t want or need. It’s nothing different from other hunting manufacturers. Take packs for instance. You buy the pack but you still gotta buy the accessories you want. That’s just the name of the business anymore. I know it sucks as a blue collar guy these extras add up but it’s the cost of the industry these days. 🤦🏼‍♂️

      Seems like it’s working well so far. Admittedly, it’s hard to say though since we haven’t had really cold temps yet. Today was actually the coldest day of this fall so far at 9° but that’s outside temp and my shop temp was still in the 50”s I think. I run the shop heater every morning and evening when I’m working out in there for 10-15 minutes just to take the edge off until I warm up so it hasn’t hit freezing in there yet. I think with a smaller plunge it would work great and I don’t foresee any problems with this setup as long as I have power to keep the heater going. I’ll update if any issues arise!

      @@highcountryoutdoor Awesome, thank you! I got one ordered for my setup as well, which is outdoors under a covered patio. I have a UV filtration unit from RevX Wellness, which contains the pump as well, so I'm hoping I can squeeze this in that system. @@joshuanw9805 it’s not quite that expensive and you can usually get a deal if you shop around for sales. But it’s also like everything else in the hunting industry. You pay for what you get and quality American made gear isn’t cheap Chinese junk. It’s worth the money for me to have quality gear I can rely on that meets my needs and expectations. A buddy of mine has a different “popular” brand of harness and his broke in the middle of our hunt last week and his Binos were completely exposed to the elements and unable to keep them secured inside the harness. Hello. I started this build a while back and figured I’d offer my 2 cents and save someone some hassle. Full disclosure I’m no craftsman and often my projects require multiple attempts before I get it right 😊, so you might keep that in mind. My problem was with the spray foam. I was sure to use the recommended product to avoid expansion, unfortunately I discovered that the foam in fact expanded anyway and pushed out my insulation panels. I wanted this project to be as close to perfect as possible so I pulled my panels and noticed that the foam after expanding to the top and setting, then settled and left vacancies in the middle of the tub. You wouldn’t see this if you don’t pull the panels. Needless to say I have a bit of a mess on my hands, without a clear solution on how to handle this. I am thinking I will try to fill the vacancies with foam board and sand down the protruding spray foam and go from there. Just more time and a little more effort. FYI nevertheless thanks for the comprehensive video

    • @highcountryoutdoor
      @highcountryoutdoor 2 місяці тому

      Dang sorry this happens to ya. Yes, unfortunately all spray foam expands to some extent and making sure to get a reputable brand and go with their least expanding foam is important. Theres only two ways this can happen. 1; there’s open space or a gap between the foam board, cage and or tank where the foam can drop down between the void spaces in each cavity. Its extremely important to make sure you fill from the bottom of each row/cavity and watch from the top looking down to make sure each cavity is nearly full but not completely as you want to leave some room for the foam to expand. 2; you didn’t have the foam board or inside of the tank properly secured to prevent the expansion. This is hard to accomplish unless you fill the tank completely full of water and use some removable blocking or framing in the outside of the foam board to keep it in place until the foam dries. An alternative solution is to tip the entire plunge up on a side and fill each cavity of the side facing up and let it sit for about 30 minutes to let the foam expand and settle then flip the plunge over so the side you just filled is now on the bottom facing the floor. The weight of the plunge should keep the foam board from pushing out and it will not settle toward the bottom of the tank. Next you fill the top side again and repeat the process until all 4 sides are filled. Do the bottom last with the plunge completely upside down and let gravity work In your favor.

    I’m trying to decide if this or a chest freezer is the way to go. The long standing debate… I know. This seems significantly cheaper… marginally more work, which is fine. What’s y’all’s thoughts?

    • @highcountryoutdoor
      @highcountryoutdoor 3 місяці тому

      This build won’t be cheaper if you consider the cost of a chiller and all the materials. If cost is your main concern then the freezer is definitely more cost effective. The biggest difference is cost effectiveness and personal preference. Freezers are not easy to plumb appropriately you’d still need a submersible pump, filter and ozone setup and personally freezers are not really fun to sit in. No cold plunge is necessarily”fun” but there is some level of comfort sitting in a plastic surface vs that of a metal surface or a surface that is colder as part of the chilling process. The freezers aren’t nearly as effective at chilling the water and they generally have to work harder which ultimately can lead to more failure or maintenance on the working parts. Those are the main reasons I went with this style of build over a freezer plus I had the IBC tote already 🤷🏼‍♂️. Lots of people enjoy their freezer plunges though so I’d say it boils down to your budget, skill set and preference. Regardless, build one and get to plunging!!

    • @Eechygoeechy
      @Eechygoeechy 3 місяці тому

      @@highcountryoutdoor good info. I guess you’re right. The chillers can get quite expensive. I’ve bounced around the idea of a cold plunge for a couple years now but never did anything. Probably because I can’t make up my mind on method. We will see. This set up looks and functions excellent!

    I really like your plunge videos. Thank you for documenting your build. I’ve been inspired and have found my ibc tote and will begin construction once I decide on the plumbing system.

    • @highcountryoutdoor
      @highcountryoutdoor 4 місяці тому

      Thank you for watching! I haven’t had any issues with leaking at that fitting since I switch to a better quality plumbing tape and re-plumbing/moving the stairs. Now that it’s not leaking I have no reservations about using the drain as part of the plumbing to recirculate water. In fact it still makes the most sense and easiest for plumbing.

Building one with an IBC 600 at the moment and was wondering if your solution with the blue painting is still the way to go because the tank is moving and not sure if it sticks over time... or if I a blue plastic wrapping would be better. Any advice?

    • @highcountryoutdoor
      @highcountryoutdoor 4 місяці тому

      Thanks for watching! If you’re going to be moving the tank and the outside isn’t going to be insulated or protected then I definitely wouldn’t paint the outside like I did. Great Video. I’ve been Elk hunting out of a hammock for a few years now. You could never get me to go back. As of late I switched to an Amok Draumr hammock. I’m 6’8” so like you it can be hard to find gear that works. To add to my issues I’m I side sleeper. The Amock has been a game changer. It’s at least a pound heavier in total than your set up but it’s just amazing to sleep in. I use the bulk of the sleep system to my advantage. If you put the lighter bulkier stuff at the bottom of the pack it lifts the center of mass up higher on you back. Makes hiking way easier. I keep my top quilt in a water proof stuff sack but I literally just stuff the other stuff down into the pack. That way it fills the space uniformly. That helps a bit with balance. I run a seek outside pack. 7000 or so it says on volume. I run all the same dutchwear gear you do. Great stuff. Anyway thanks again for the video. I hunting Montana in November and Idaho in September this year. All in the hammock! Good luck this season!

I can tell you right now that convincing people of this, I don’t care if your impact spread is 0.0”. I’ve learned and worked out ballistics stuff through the physics involved in mech eng. As the only engineer at a large plant in backwater Arkansas, I know exactly how difficult that convincing others, especially if they’re long held beliefs, really is. Folks, he’s right as can be, AS LONG AS YOU ROTATE THAT SCOPE FROM normal to compensate from the gun cant. That is the most important part. Say you’re shooting at a target, further than sighting distance and there’s a steady crosswind. So, you make elevation and windage changes and you hit your target. The only reason you did was because the bore was aimed above and to the right of where target is. Since you dialed in your adjustment, your recticle is directly at the target (nothing to do with flight path). With a cant setup, the bore still has to be aimed in exactly the same direction. The difference is that rotation in the scope brings back to compatibility: elevation is only elevation, windage is only windage. If the scope matches the gun’s rotation, the recticle and adjustment module inside, will still respond to elevation the same way. It’s complicated in terms of thinking about shooting a canted rifle with typical setup scope. If you cant your firearm then, to make windage or elevation adjustment, you’d have to use both adjustments just to to accomplish one. There’s one Moment of Freedom isn’t taken car of that method and that is the rotational position of the bores will be different. I will say that it should mess with your ammunition’s data, I feel like that’s true, but I haven’t looked. Thanks bro! Been bummed about that!

    Beautiful bear. Question for ya though are you not concerned about Grizzlies or lions hanging you meat that close to camp? I've never been and watching videos taking in information.

    • @highcountryoutdoor
      @highcountryoutdoor 6 місяців тому

      Hey Jeremy! Thanks for watching!! No, not worried at all. Lions won’t touch a dead animal especially one that’s been handled by a human. They’re not scavengers and always kill their own animals and then burry them and come back a few day later to feed. Bears even grizzlies don’t really eat or consume other bear meat. That might be the case in some places but. It my experience in Montana or Wyoming. There are no grizzly bears in the area where this bear was taken however we did take a bear this season in the heart of grizzly country. We hung that bear about 50 yards from camp and strung it way up high away from where any griz could get to it. We had g bears not far from camp and they never bothered us.

    I put a jard in my howa 1500 308 and I love it, safety to stop trigger works, but not lock bolt. I bought a jard to put in the 1500 223 build I am building now, It almost seams like it doesn't need a better trigger. I put the trigger in as I got it, seams perfect, I plan on doing that with the 223. BTW......I hate rifle safeties. I am putting the 223 in a mdt lss stock. I don't think the safeties on the ruger rifles I have jard triggers in work either......I did notice on the rugers I had to adjust sear engagement some. To me.......the safety is YOU, open bolt SAFE, closed bolt NOT SAFE. I hate the safeties on marlin 80/81/25 rifles even more than any rifle.

    What pump and filter did you use to compliment the 1500gph Vevor 1.4hp? I see people have used the Intex C1000 but Im not sure if thats enough.

      Danner 1500gph pump and culligan water filter. I don’t recommend the culligan filter. I’d go with the GE filter

    Great build. Can you tell me about the VEVOR Chiller? I see it on Amazon at $636. Looks like a great price for a chiller that large. I wanted to know what you think of it. I noticed it looks like a knock-off of the EcoPlus 1.5HP. How cold does it get, any maintenance issues?

    Awesome build man!!! I’m in the process of making a IBC tote cold plunge at the moment and this is the first video I came across that was worth the information! I’m nearly done mine now. I insulted 3/4 of mine and left one side off to install the pump and chiller. I used a ecoplus 1hp I found new used for $600. I thought it would be over kill but it’s not for the amount of water these things hold. Plus mine is in a sauna shed i built so it doesn’t have ac. This summer with the sauna in the other room plus the 80-90f we get here in southern Ontario I figure the room the chiller is in will get to 100 plus degrees so 1hp or bigger is needed. Anyways love the build!! Enjoy it!!!

    The surface area of that Dyneema tree strap on the tree looks questionable. An ambitious park ranger might balk at it.

    • @highcountryoutdoor
      @highcountryoutdoor 9 місяців тому

      I’m not hunting in a regulated “park” so there’s no regulation on the size of the tree straps where I’m camping. Certainly use the appropriate sized straps if that’s a concern in the areas you plan to camp. A simple solution is to use a few twigs under the strap placed around the tree to spread out the force of the straps.
