Goddamnit. I made a full feature film from start to finish of this one, only to have 30 minutes of the wrong audio channel recorded. The main camera also shut down after 5 minutes, so. To commemorate todays failures, here's the end result from the second cameras view.
Oh right, I finally decided; I'm looking to buy a Behringer XR18 or X18. Though I fixed the PSU of the mixer, it still ever so slightly bleeds into the preamps AND the whitenoise is still rather substantial on it, doubt anything is going to fix it. Might even take the XR16 but having no ultranet sucks. The multitracking is kinda secondary to me, even if I wouldn't mind mastering on the PC. The ultranet is kinda dangerous too as I could get an output box and route it to a proper mixer with VST plugins as effects. I'd rather stay hardware based, even if I had to use a tablet to use the mixer.

This took less than 1 hour from start to a finished product, so not much structure. I use the Casio CTK-530 as a base layer on which I paint the rest of the sound. I had to use the Circuit as its sequencer, as both of them inhabit channel 1 and 10 so not much else I could do without sacrificing a whole midi channel of the MPC to the Casio. Yes, it's heavily soaked in the effects and the top end...

First of these, bit of a bore. I've done trip hop at the mid 90s but I'm not very good at sampling others stuff and claiming it my own. Bassline Crave, synth chord comes from the microfreak, drums from the tr-8 and on top of them a breakbeat. Not very much substance on this one, the track I sampled wasn't very easy to work with. It's from 1948 so completely copyright free. Could've filtered the...

@@MwahMwahProductions Gotta keep the channel alive until I get the mixer 😋 Think I'll completely revamp another corner for the stuff so I can livestream this winter, it's not like I have better things to do 🤷♂️😂
@@minikuiotoko Haha, your winters are brutal, how much daylight you getting now? Finland is definitely a good place to stay in and do music, I've got too many distractions!
@@MwahMwahProductions Still 8 hours but at Christmas it's down to 4 hours on my area, we're losing half an hour of the sun every week. It's only the north with month and a half without the sun. -7c right now, definitely starting to feel cold 😁
@@minikuiotoko Still reasonable then...for now!
Sounds like a lost Derrick May track!
@@MwahMwahProductions I really like the strings on the Casio, though you can really hear the interpolation on them sometimes 😁 That's the USB out of the mixer, sounds really weak. Think I might go Behringer XR18 soon because I'm so tired of the noise of the x2222 😅
@@minikuiotoko I had a CZ-101 years ago, that's the only Casio I've owned, fun synth! Yeah, you've definitely got a bit of noise coming from the desk, can't notice it on the phone or laptop, but can with the headphones on.
@@MwahMwahProductions The noise was even worse before I fixed the PSU, I think it still needs the smaller caps replaced too. I could get the cheaper XR16 but it doesn't do multitracking and I'd rather be future proof. Who knows, maybe I want to master these some day 😋
@@minikuiotoko I forgot you did a repair job! It's definitely worth spending as much as possible on the mixer. I've been thinking about getting a Behringer Wing console for a while, love my MX-1 but, could do with more inputs, be nice to use the aux outs on the MPC. On the flip side, the MX-1 stops me gassing for more synths. 😂
@MwahMwahProductions They just introduced the Wing compact and made the older models a tad cheaper. I was thinking of hooking up a big touchscreen to the XR18 so even if I lose tactility, I still have at least a control surface that looks like a real mixer. They make a Midas version of it too but I didn't hear a real practical difference between the PRO and the normal preamps. And that's a good tactic to keep the herd manageable, but then again, you're just a patchbay away from adding more stuff to your existing rig 😁
Nice chords. They remind a bit of the Maurizio 4 from the M series, which is always a good thing 👍
@@robertocaba5915 I need to do more dub but I'm on the dub mood only so often 😊 But I think it's better to do it when you feel like it instead of trying to force it 🤷♂️😁
To me, MPC and TR-8 home territory on this one. Very much a 90's-like feel. Reminds me of one of my fav gangster movies "Ghost Dog" - soundtrack to which was made by RZA from Wu Tang Clan. Had an MPC work written all over it. 👍
@@mack_solo I think the instant effects of the Roland SP404, even the EP-133 would work better with this style of music 🤔 I didn't have a good grasp of the sample editing on the MPC before this one, now I do 😁 It has a few time saving features, like trimming while playing the sample, which is very convenient. But overall it's still rather slow compared to the PC 😅 Massive Attack - Danny the Dog is closer to what I'd like to do, I love Hybrid also, Orbital - Transient is godly good too 😁
FANTASTIC JAMMIN MyMAN ...
So it wasn't the mixer all along... damn PSU 😜 Unless you're publishing somewhere else, here on youtube it makes little difference - dare i say. All i need to do, is open up my window and I couldn't tell if you were using NEVE console or a concrete mixer to put together your track. I understand though - hum from some of my synths drives me nuts 😆
@@mack_solo PSU of the mixer 😁 I agree, it only bothered to a degree but since it became loud enough to be an instrument of its own, I had to fix it. And now that I had a taste of the silence, I want more of it 😁 That's even if my monitors have more white noise right now at the recording level, ie. I can only hear the difference in the recorded mix 😁 And I do agree, most people will never be able to tell the difference of the preamps, most people can only tell if the background of the mix is black or not. This to me is at acceptable level for what I do, so the real reason I want a new mixer still is the second stereo bus. I want it! But silence too! 😁
A TR-8 with 7x7 expansion for 200, is a really good deal. The expansion alone is 100 if I remember correctly
It really is. In all fairness he could've asked 250-270 for it but he didn't even mention the upgrade in the post and I was genuinely buying a vanilla TR-8 for the 200 (here the going rate is 180-220€). The device also came with the old firmware, suggesting he just didn't have any real use for it and it was just collecting dust. And quite often that's how you get the best deals; people are just looking to get rid of the stuff and price it to sell. Usually you find single synths like that, people just try them once only to figure out that the DAWless isn't for them and out goes the synth. The reality of needing quite a bit more than just the single synth becomes the wall of entry and ain't nobody got time or money for that.
Very chill❤ loving the vibe 🔥
@@justinhuffman2430 Thank you! 😊
Where I am, to get the same gear i'd be paying double. Not everything is twice as expensive, but some things like TR8 and MPC are disproportionally more expensive just because. I am not gelling with my Circuit, idk, unsigned knobs are not my thing... also occassionally it doesnt respond on synth 2 which p!sses me off. microfreak is a little darling, keeps surprising me and arturia keeps injecting new goodies into it. I thought you had more gear 😆 ... you should get more gear 🤪
I usually keep an eye of the market places and know the lowest prices the stuff is going for. Like everything, I tend to buy when it's low but unlike some people, I don't sell it high as I'm the forever home for the gear. I suppose that's the best part about being a grown ass man, you no longer have to peddle with the stuff as you can just keep it until the space becomes an issue. I've been 10 months into this, for the timeline the amount of gear isn't that bad and now that I have the basics covered, I can save up a little more for the kind of stuff that I might want to own at least to try it but perhaps end up selling down the line. But, we shall see how it goes. First I have to upgrade out of this Behringer mixer! So like the spice, the gear must flow😁
Great set up

One of the first synths I came across was the Cyclone Analogic TT-303. I recommend saving up for one of those if you can, the sequencer is unmatched. I have four TD-3 units, they are all boxed up right now but only because I currently do not have the space to set them up. I can create sequences for them with TT-303, and use the Squarp Pyramid to store those sequences and send them out to other synths. Very handy workflow even with writer's block! 😆Thanks for sharing and Read more
I still remember the first 303 clones hitting the second hand market. They were still 300-500 euros back then, just one of those would've eaten half of my current investment, so I can't really blame the Behringer for making the stuff more accessible. They could be a bit more original, though it's hard to disagree with the TD-3 😁 I use the Venom as the master keyboard, route it through the MPC to the device I want to sequence. It's really fast and convenient to play the stuff in but for grid sequencing, I think the Circuits speed is unmatched. That sequencer just is that good. I was really tossing the coin between the Tracks and the MPC for a long time, but then the MPC popped up and I just had to get it. I would love to have a dedicated sequencer like the Pyramid because my current setup can be severely limited if I want to do stuff live. But, I still have a few more basic things to upgrade, so I don't have to pay much attention to that side right now, as the noise of the mixer pulls ALL of my attention and I'm sure it's starting to annoy everyone else, too. I've half expected someone to say "Sounds great, BUT.." for a long time, but the community is nice and understanding when it comes down to this stuff 🙃
Bro... finding Circuit for 120... it's dream come true, in my neck of the woods it's nowhere to be found used and a new one is sold for 599!
Keanuwhoa 😁 Tracks is at Amazon.it on prime customer deals for 246.99 + shipping, ~260€ for a brand new Tracks is a pretty good deal! 👀 Here the going rate for OG is 100-180, some try to get more of it but if you keep an eye on the Amazon deals, the local prices make no sense. Hagglezon is a good way to compare between the EU amazons, most of them ship to whole EU 😁
Even less favourite than a visit to a dentist, is a visit to a dentist because of the previous dentist visit. And yet, strangely enough, one gets charged for it on both occasions. 🙁 So now after, what - a month and a bit? - how do you rate the TR-8 in your setup?
I received the TR-8 at 16.9 so I've had it for two weeks at monday 😁 Pros: Legacy sounds I'm familiar with, easy to get the levels right in the mix. Stereo plus two mono outputs, the inputs can be assigned to mono inputs too. With the 7x7 expansion the range of the device is wide enough for my use, I was basically raised by those toms and the hihats. In general it sits great in the mix, it's never offensive or begging the attention unless you want to draw the attention to it. Then it can take the center stage, the sound quality is good enough. Enough controls and they're easy to access once you get familiar with it - now you see me use the track mutes on the device all the time instead of the mixer. Cons: 16 step sequencer which expands to 32 steps BUT you can't copy the first steps to the next 16 steps. You CAN use the song mode for longer sequences and the copypaste works fine there, but then you are pretty much limited to a single song in the machine. The swing is set, which makes me miss my Impact a lot, on it I could fine tune any hit to any amount of swing I wanted. No automation/motion sequencing, which shouldn't surprise anyone who bought it as it was never included. Still, wish it was there. Also, another two extra outputs would've been nice but not mandatory and I'm saying that knowing you can get all the channels separated through the USB - it's not my use case, so not a thing to me. The effects are limited but useable enough but I do wish I was able to quickly midi sync the delay as now you have to listen . . listen . . still not right . . listen to it to get it right-ish 😁 Overall it's a fine device for what I paid for it and the fact it has the legacy sounds I'm familiar with makes it really easy to work with. I can get the balance of my mixes right fast and for my workflow it works great. I'm old-school, my sound is a mix of that and whatever I've listened to as of lately and these sounds still dominate the airspace, whether we like it or not. 909 is the electric guitar of our generation and owning a device that can produce those sounds is a joy 😁 I might still go for the TR-8S down the line for the automation, though 🤔

Fresh 😎. It feels so uninspired to used those classic sounds sometimes, but they are classic for a reason.
After 40 years of ear training, the TR sounds are like the electric guitar; whenever you hear them, you recognize and accept them. I'm not sure if we adopted around their sound or if they were always able to cut through our mixes great because no matter what, they always seem to sit in the mix perfectly. I agree, it can sound a bit tired at times but then again, so can any mix. It's good to remember that if your only tool is the hammer, every problem starts to look like a nail. @@minikuiotoko I think you need to check the Global Mode settings. Multi and Single should follow what's in Global tab.
Yeah, I've tried that but to no avail. I was able to play the Venom from the Circuit, suggesting there's some kind of conflict that doesn't allow it to work correctly either from the Circuit or the MPC end. Circuit uses set midi channels, so not much I can do about that but it still should work if I run the Circuit at B midi of the MPC and Venom at A.
