Hope Tech 4 V4 wandering bite point / lever pump up
Engagement point comes out by a full centimeter if you squeeze the lever a few times in quick succession. Fluid can't travel back fast enough.

Brand new brake, has failed completely. Leaking master cylinder seal as well as caliper piston seal. MC fixed at Hope, and caliper seals replaced. After that, the other caliper started leaking as well, from multiple pistons. Replaced all seals and pistons of that one (sent to me by Hope), but did not fix it. After some analysis: laterally unflexy 1/8" chain laterally very flexy steel frame very high power input = chain wants to derail. When power turns to the other pedal and the frame starts to flex the other way, the chain violently jumps back into position.

I have this problem and it's extremely annoying. I just replaced the back sprocket and the chain and it skips at least two times per lap of the front chain ring. I bought a cheap and very wide chain. Should I interpret you as that I need a more narrow chain? With a chain tensioner it doesn't skip, but then I get an annoying rrrrrrr sound at around the time it would have skipped...
You could try a 3/32" chain (multi speed) instead of a 1/8" one. They allow for for more lateral flexing.
How did you find out they were leaking?
Brakes started howling and not stopping very well. Btw, after replacing multiple pistons and seals, the calipers still leak past the pistons, both sides, multiple pistons. Seems like a machining tolerance issue if you ask me.
@@parabier2000 How much is currently leaking? if it's still like what is shown in your video after multple piston and seal replacements that is unacceptable and would keep pushing for a proper fix. I have a brake kit for my car and I was told by Centric that some fluid "sweating" past the piston seal is normal. FYI Centric Parts is one of the biggest manufactures for automotive brakes. I don't agree with Centric but so far my brakes havent had any major issues yet. Anyway I just bought a set of V4 and will keep a close eye around the piston seals.
Agree, brakes shouldn't "sweat", gets on the pads eventually with enough sweating. Rear caliper piston still leaks the same. Front caliper pistons leak less, bit still enough to clearly see after like 50 lever pulls. Hope have asked me to send the brakes back to the dealer. Hope I can get a refund under warranty, no faith left in these brakes.
@@parabier2000 lucky to have problem with both....My right brake is good so I can have a refund for left one but can't sell one brake only so I have no choice to buy another one. :(
I've had to send 2 rear tech 4 e4 back to wiggle for the same reason.ive now got a clicking rear lever .not impressed

Just found this video, Been out on a ride today had to brake very hard started to brake then lever went straight to bar i end off coming off but luckily avoided a drop , on looking afterwards at what happened all four pistons in rear brake are leaking fluid and lever is making a air leaking noise when pressed, front brake also doesn’t feel right seems needs to be pumped to regain pressure. These are only a couple of rides old tech 4 v4’s so annoyed. Will be ringing hope tomorrow to see what they say
So what's going on with your brakes? A seller at a LBS had the same problem than you, on your rear brake. He didn't know what was going on and I wasn't aware of all those problems at that time so couldn't help him. He told me about that because he heard me talk to the mechanic about my front lever problem... I tried with my tech 3 E4 lever and it was working A1, with the tech 4 E4 it would go to the bar from time to time without power and had to pump it a bit. I had to send everything from Canada to UK (chainreactioncycles) and lost my brake for my summer season! They said it would be fast bla bla....after a while they said they would give me a new one but they had none in stock. I looked and said there is some in stock!? So he said oups sorry and ''sent'' one to me....which I think is not true because I never received it and now they are saying the same thing, nothing in stock so we will refund you! They are in stock on their website... Maybe they know that the others will have the same problem and prefer to NOT send another one to me!? They also have a lot less front (left) brake than rear one so I suppose that means something as you usually buy a complete brakeset for a bike... Anyway 7th weeks without my brake, really pissed off about the situation and as much as I love Hope, I am not sure if I will buy another set!! Just afraid my next one will have the same problem! 🤬
I also have the same problem with the striker. I sent it to hope and they have not responded for 20 days. and now the rear gives me the same problem during long braking, when the brake is very hot. I am very unhappy with the new hope tech 4. I had the tech 3 for 5 years without any problem. instead they have disappointed me

I had to send mine to CRC as I bought them there..... 7th weeks without a brake! Worst summer ever!! CRC fault but Hope also have a problem with their brakes and can't believe they tested those before selling it!?! Now CRC just want to refund me, they probably know the other ones are all faulty as well...
That piston is cracked, I bought a set of Hope tech4 v4 brakes and the same thing happened to me, I dismantled the piston and it had a micro crack that was barely visible, but there it is and that's why it was leaking oil.
Pretty crazy, a cracked stainless steel piston. Must have been cracked in the factory then I reckon? Quality control doesn't seem that great at Hope. I got the brake back from them last week, with a 'serviced caliper' and a new master cylinder housing. One ride in, so far so good. Let's see how it holds up, will be checking the pistons/pads for wetness after every ride for a while.
WTF, my front brake now also has the exact same leak! What's up with this, some serious issues here or what?

@@OleTobs Hope support is pretty good. Offered to rebuild the brakes for me, but for that to happen had to send them away again of course. So instead of once more waiting for a long time, I opted to do just do it myself. They sent me a set of new pistons and seals to do so. We'll see how long it lasts.

Hey, I was brought here because of forum where you complained about a skipping I9 Hydra hub. I seem to have the same problem with mine; the hub skips one time in a loud metallic noisy way right where I start applying power. My hub is 1 month old and I9 will be sending a new one. Have you solved your problem? Because my hub looked completely intact or nothing wrong at first glance.
I9 sent me a new hub too, which had the same issues. They then advised me to use double springs in the freehub. So I took the springs of my old hub, and inserted them into the springs of the new one, doubling them up. It's been good since that mod, think it has skipped only twice in a year or so. With the higher spring force, it is extremely loud and draggy, but better than a skipping hub right?
Same route for me. I was wondering if I should have "bedded" the freehub like i remember having to do with high engagement freewheels. It feels and sounds like a slip, but it instantly catches, so I'm not too concerned after reading this.

One of the pistons on my brand new rear brake is leaking. Front is fine. Major bummer when you are paying this kind of money for a brake
I've got this problem with my front brake, not sure what to do though
Pull out that piston and clean it and the seal area and re-install. Sometimes something as small as a grain if sand can get in your fluid and cause this to happen. If that doesn't fix it, send it back to Hope and they will replace it for free.
Brake is brand new. Apparently the lever issue was a production error because of a faultily setup machine, affecting quite a few brakes. The caliper issue, just bad tolerances I guess. Should be caught in quality control, but unfortunately that was not the case. Anyway, it's back at Hope, hope I'll get it back soon.

@@kingflynxi9420 got it back. Lever is fixed, doubtful on the leaking caliper though. Can't use the bike due to an injury for a few months unfortunately to say for sure.
@@parabier2000 I thought it was a bad bleed with air in the system, got it bled and the problem persisted, its worrying as you lose braking power when you're on the brakes too long, thinking the lever needs a rebuild In that case. Hope you feel better soon.
@@kingflynxi9420 Thanks! Hope told me the lever issue was because of a faulty setup of one of their CNC machines that they didn't catch, affecting quite a few brakes. It needs to go back to Hope and they will replace your master cylinder, and MC housing probably too.

@@IgorDz Couple of thousand :S Even with insurance (max out those yearly deductibles twice in a row, perfect timing breaking it just before new year). Anyway, I did go back the year after and nailed that shitty jump a couple of times :)

I believe that's a normal noise from the oil reservoir inside the shock. I get it on a Deluxe R but only on the road can't hear it on the trails. On the road it is like chatter squeaking from the small bumps whereas on the trail the movement is bigger and not noticeable.
If this is about me, I'm pretty sure I'm getting paranoid.
