“It’s CHRIIIISTMAS! And time for another annual festive squawk. This year I’ve taken probably my favourite Christmas pop song and exploded it into a kind of Coca Cola-ad cinematic track. I firmly believe that many of our memories are rooted in sound, and this is song is one of my strongest sonic reminders of childhood Christmasses with my Dad and the new surround sound he bought when all that stuff was ground-breaking tech. It stirs up all kinds of emotions, nostalgia and warmth for me, so spending a few days writing this arrangement in memory and honour of him has been very moving and rewarding. The text was written by the great Peter Sinfield, who sadly passed this year, and it beautifully captures the tension between the true meaning of Christmas and its commercialisation. A big Thank You to the amazing Steffen Thum who produced the orchestral track, John W Chapman who gave the mix the ole Hollywood razzle dazzle, Steve Coleman who filmed the session and Ollie at 123 studios in South London.
