    What brand is the bike @hobbybike? Appears to be a vintage frame. I have vintage GT's. Just wondering if the bottom bracket situation is at all similar. GT Outpost Trail & GT Palomar, both large mtbs.

      Thanks for the comment 👍 ! No clue what make/model but it can't be too old since the fork is threadless, but old enough to be heavier steel; probs early 2000s. This one has the standard 68mm BB shell, even though the BB is labelled BB73 @ 4:17. One thing distinctive about older GT models is the extended seat stay at the seatpost/TT area, which this frame lacks.

    DO NOT POWER WASH or spray water under high pressure to clean. Power washing will force contaminants into parts where they will promote corrosion, immediately damage, or result in accelerated wear. DO NOT USE COMPRESSED AIR TO DRY. DO NOT USE ABRASIVE OR HARSH CHEMICAL CLEANER/SOLVENTS which can damage the finish or attack and destroy both the outside and internal parts. When rinsing, avoid directing the spray directly at shock/fork adjusters or bearings. genius

    “You could get SCAMMED if you don’t know this is here” no, it’s called knowledge. You pay a bike shop for their tools, time, and talent. Tools such as a torque wrench. Talent such as not clamping on the top tube. Also, your barrel adjuster is SUPER far out. You’ve gotta find a new shop. Our shop only sells parts if you actually need them. It’s very uncommon that we replace derailleurs. Front derailleurs are a pain to work with. At least your tire wear point is somewhat accurate. The two holes are different depths. Once the first hole disappears, it’s a sort of warning. Once both are gone, they need replacing.

    • @hobbybike51
      @hobbybike51 Місяць тому

      I have already achieved success doing this because of low talent and knowledge at bike shops (don't forget the fly-by-night garage guys that appeared during COVID), which is why I'm doing youtube😆; you don't do youtube if you're NOT ALREADY successful! I don't use shops, but the owner of this bike did which begs the question: why is that bike on this video? However, I do appreciate that you actually watched the vid and accept your opinions.

  • @zacknagel827
    @zacknagel827 Місяць тому

    I won’t take advice from ANYONE clamping a carbon frame by the top tube and not using a torque wrench. Thats NOT how to work with carbon. Any bike shop worth its salt should have free estimates or free appointment consultations. This isn’t “bike shop scams” this is basic bike maintenance anyone can learn… Not sure what shop you went too/or worked at but this is not the right tone to have with this. Here is an idea. Price shop menus 45-60 min from your house and chose accordingly.

  • @davidgeorge9233
    @davidgeorge9233 Місяць тому

    You seem to have a really low opinion of bike shops, perhaps you’ve been scammed at some point but I think this is a really unfair way to portray them by suggesting everything is a scam. Many jobs on bikes are quite simple but that doesn’t mean that we should always assume we should do them ourselves because a shop will scam us, at some point even the best home mechanic will more than likely require the services of a good shop. Your point about bolts being undone so far and then done back up the same amount is no excuse for not using a decent torque wrench, it’s just good practice to use the right tools for the job, your way assumes the bolt was at the correct setting to start with which is hugely flawed. Finally what you did with that chain dropping it to the inside of the chainrings onto the paint and turning the cranks….🤦 I’m glad you’re not working on any of my bikes.

    • @hobbybike51
