Your brain physically does not have the ability to visualize a number than large, we just go "big number" and move on. If one person died every second, it would take 127 days to meet the scale of the Holocaust. If one person died every day it would take 30,136 years to meet the scale of the Holocaust, that may not sound like a lot, but civilization only started 6,000 years ago. So that is five times the span of human civilization. The thing is no persons brain can truly wrap their head around these numbers, they are so incredibly huge and hard to quantify. For instance, did you know Columbus's arrival in America killed more people than Hitler? At a certain point, numbers don't matter anymore.

Yes and no, gen z and a is living in what feels like the end of the world, like lowkey everything is really going to shit and the wealth divide is getting worse and worse. And sure it affects everyone but the difference is gen z and a are kids, they don't have the fully formed brain to deal with this kind of stuff. the thing is tho it's an existential threat, so nobody gets any like real hands on training to deal with anxiety or nothing, its just this far off thing that nobody can really knows what to do. Back then, you didn't have the media or ability to see the world going to shit, so you're just kind of in your own little bubble, but you also go through stuff physically so your brain is better at handling that kind of thing. Basically, the young generations today have the same fear and anxiety of the world but without any of the physical experience to deal with it so we end up getting mentally broken people.

the factor everyone forgets to take into consideration is being raised on the internet. a very large portion of gen z had unrestricted internet access growing up, which has probably done more damage to our brains than we’re aware of. our brains have been constantly stimulated and constantly processing way more info, mostly during our developmental years. the social structure of online spaces is entirely different from the real world and it’s a sink or swim situation when it comes to being able to navigate it. the risk of being recorded and posted online in social settings is fucking up our sense of self people have been constantly able to communicate with us through the internet since our first social media accounts. I don’t think the average person quite understands the impact social media and the internet has had on the human brain, and it’s hard to do controlled studies on it bc it’s something that happened to EVERYONE, even the ppl researching it.
