London to Nordkapp 2022 HD 1080p
Hi all,
Well after a year, almost exactly, I bring you the video! The trip was fun but I should have gone with a fellow rider. I suppose you can only learn these things by trying things out. I wouldn't do such a long trip alone again. I guess I am a team person and not a lone adventure person!
Sorry for the delay and sorry for:
a. The failure of the camera system! I ended up with just a phone, 1 GoPro and a drone, basically!
b. The lack of good TET footage. I only did about 100 miles on the TET as I was worried about being alone, the lack of experience I had and the weight of the bike. If I dropped the bike, even at a standstill, I would have been in huge trouble! Please don't let this put you off if you are planning a trip! It's fine - I just should have gone with a friend!
c. The video takes an age to film! It takes over the whole holiday. So in the end you get what you get!! I have a new found respect for UA-camrs who put out this great footage on a regular basis. It must a full time job!
Thanks for watching. If you did!
The route can be downloaded here:
drive.google.com/file/d/1VUkI2JpN1bnALPNiO-P2nPgv1kdlw_VB/view?usp=sharing
This is the link to the road route. You can access the TET videos for Sweden from the TET website:

Have fun! And ride safe!

Pre-Trip Trial Camping Night HD 1080p

I am off on a 3 week trip to Sweden / Norway in July and this is the shake out night! It was simply designed to check the packing of my kit and to check I had enough room on the bike to pack what I thought I needed etc.

This is a short video showing the route for the Sweden and Norway trip in July 2022. Approximately 6000 miles in total including a large section of the Swedish TET. The off-road section is in the area of 2000 miles total but time won't allow all of this to be done off road. Occasionally, I will jump back onto the main roads to allow a bit of a skip forward to keep me roughly on track for a 25 d...

Off Road Tyre Trial On a BMW R1250 GSA HD 1080p

I have always worried about trying an off-road tyre on my GSA 1250. I felt that the loss of a 'road' tyre would make me slip all over the place and make the bike unstable. The fact is that simply isn't true! The bike rides fine 95% of the time. Watch and see if you can increase your use of this amazing bike with some new tyres!!

I am travelling to Sweden and Norway in July 2022 for a 3 week trip on a BMW 1250 GSA. As a Swede I’m happy to see this v-log ! Why ? Because you drove through Sweden , most bikers either takes the ferry from Denmark to Norway or drive through Denmark over the Öresundsbridge - like you did - and then the E6 the whole way up to Norway. It’s always nice to see bikers who dares different ways through Scandinavia. I give my both thumbs up to this v-log !

I am so keen to do this very trip, and your footage has inspired me furthermore. Thanks for the GPX file also, its a starting place for me. Hiya, thanks very much for the comments. That’s very kind of you. The TET section shown is essentially the southern section. If you look at the TET website you will see that the Sweden route has 2 routes that join to become one as it routes North of Malmo area. The bit I rode was from the point they join onwards. A hope you enjoy the trip when you do it! My only advice would be - if you are camping - do everything you can to avoid mosquito season. They were the worst I have ever seen. If you stop at any point from mid-Sweden Northwards you are surrounded by thousands in seconds. It’s really uncomfortable. According to locals 2022 was the worst year for ages so maybe you won’t have the problem!! 🤞🏼

Nice video I have this tent ⛺️ Used the shit of it. Love it ! It's definitely big, but it's EASY ! Far easier than a small tent. 3 poles. 2 are the same. Easy to see witch end the smaller pole goes. And the pole pockets only at the top. The only disadvantage: not free standing. So you can't shake it out. But I have just undone one side loose and sake sand out that way..pack it up and your done.

I bought this tent pre-Covid. It's not too heavy. I took it on a 2800 mile trip on a WR250R. If the WR could handle it anything else can too. You can keep your bike out of the rain or prying eyes at night. You have a place to eat in the rain. You have a place to chill out in the gazebo if the mosquitoes or bugs are nasty. It's a great tent. It would be nice if they were cheaper but you get what you pay for with it.

I know exactly what you mean about the filming. I’ve tried it on two trips and have been surprised how much effort it takes. Needless to say, what I’ve ended up with wasn’t enough to make anything worth sharing. I’d love to hear more about your trip, so if you’re still up for a coffee sometime, drop me a line

Hi Nick, Thanks for your kind comment. Yes, I did the trip and then I totally failed to get my arse in gear and actually do the video. The year anniversary was sufficient to get me to sort it out!! I wouldn't say it went to plan but near enough!! You are absolutely right about the time required to do the filming. A segment that might be a 5-10 second clip can end up taking around 45 minutes to film!! However, it's a good memory of the event!! I am now living in Yorkshire so the coffee will be more tricky but if you are ever around Ripon then yes! All the best to you.

I Mike! How I understand you. For as long as 5 years I am trying to make videos of my trips... It takes too long to edit and, sometimes I feel I loose some things in the road because I'm worried to film. And my passions are writing and photo...not movie. Well...movie too, but it takes too much time... But I'll continue trying.... I've enjoyed this video of your trip to NordKapp because I want to do that next year. Meanwhile, if you come to south, to Portugal, I'll be glad to take you to some of great roads we have here. Cheers!

I hope one day to ride to Portugal and maybe we can film a trip together!! Good luck. Ride safe!

Oh mate, no need to apologise whatsoever. #1 You've just done something that most people can only dream of and will never achieve themselves. Don't let them judge you, and don't judge yourself either. I think you did awesome. #2 You're providing this content to us for free. So I say thank you! It wasn't quite the video I'd waited for but I still genuinely enjoyed it. I'm heading for a (small) lap of Morocco on a GSA next year and I'm still contemplating whether to film or not - your experience has provided valuable insight for me. I'm wondering would your views change about the filming if you did half the total mileage, on an alternating "Film Day. Progress Day" basis? Do you think that would make it more palatable? Finally, if you can find a travel companion who travels at the same pace as you, on the same roads as you, staying in the same hotels as you... that's fantastic. Personally I prefer to ride solo - but with a travel partner. We agree to stay in the same map qudrant to render mutual assistance if needed, rather than in each others pockets annoying each other :) (I jest, but I think you get the point). That partner doesn't need to be on a motor bike, it could just be local contacts, phone numbers, assistance en-route if needed. Anyway, I think you did awesome. That was a massive trip, massive kudos to you and thank you for the vids. Cheers.

      @travelsonagsa Рік тому

Hiya, thanks for such long and well thought out comment! Thank you for your thoughts. I totally understand the problem that you highlight. I did want to do it by myself but I then realised that I actually really didn't enjoy being on my own. You are absolutely correct that it's easy to annoy each other and the older we get and the more stuck in our ways we get, it becomes a more comfortable thought to be alone. But I think next time I need to find someone to travel with. I have travelled alone for shorter periods before and it was fine but I think for a 2-3 weeker then I need to be with someone to 'shoot the s"%t' with! The filming was quite a commitment. I enjoyed getting the drone out and having a play occasionally but the day to day coverage of the route was difficult to be enthusiastic about. I actually love the editing part but this time for various reasons it took me a while to get around to it!! I think the footage that I got was acceptable but its hardly amazing!! A film day / progress day probably would have been a better idea really. Then you are not so pressured into having to stop but feeling that you need to get on with it. Anyway, thanks for the comments. I wish you at the very best for Morocco. I am going over this year with a few friends and hiring bikes for 6 days. It's a trip that is lead by Chris Scott the author of 'Adventure Motorcycling'. I hope you do film it so I can see how its done!!! Good luck!

I have ridden 130,000+ kms on 3 BMW 1200/1250 bikes in last 6 years and probably 50/50 sealed/unsealed. I have tried many front tyres. For me, it's all about the front tyre when it comes to riding, both sealed & unsealed. The back can, within reason, do its own thing so long as the front wheel goes where i want it to go, not the other way round. So riding one of these behemoths on unsealed is totally dependent on the front tyre. Sure, you need to ride to the road conditions and the tread pattern of the tyre. Putting a more 'off-road' tyre on the front provides more security on unsealed with less chance of binning it, but when on sealed, especially when wet, you need to back off some and be super smooth & gentle with steering & corner inputs. It's surprising how fast with confidence you can corner on sealed, both wet & dry, with the rubber compounds these days. The Mitas E 10 looks like it would be a great unsealed road tyre. Maybe not quite enough rubber on the sides for my sealed road riding. Currently have a Mitas E-07+ with 14,500 kms and it has been an excellent tyre on sealed road, wet & dry, corners at road tyre speeds (can not believe the edge grip these tyres provide mid corner) and are very quiet and smooth. On unsealed they are OK. Vastly superior to the A3 & AA both sealed & unsealed. IMO, the Mitas is a Goldilocks tyre. But i need a new front & as i like trying new tyres, will likely not go another Mitas E-07+ Winters coming and now considering a Motoz DualAdventure for more unsealed grip or a Karoo4 for more 50/50. First World decision. So Mike (says he is a Noob), has it pegged about setting these bikes up for unsealed riding. If i can overcome the noise & rumbling and the need to slow down some on sealed road cornering, a 70/30 tyre is a positive move to staying upright when riding unsealed roads & tracks this winter. Like the bike colour too Mike. Clean & Classy.

    • @fittermd
      @fittermd Рік тому

Thanks Peter. That’s a really interesting comment. You obviously have a great deal more experience than me. In the end the Mitas E10 was good for my trip and it lasted pretty well for mixed riding for about 4000 miles. Stay safe!

Sir go out and grab an invite volume control. You can find them for Luke $6 U.S. as I'm sure you're aware you have massive distortion while riding. Great co tent though

Thanks for the suggestion! I know it’s awful!! I tried and tried. I will do better!! I am going to google the volume control now!! Thanks.

Costly? You bet. In this case, you get what you pay for. Big and heavy? Yes but if you want ample space inside the tent to move around and protection for your bike, the Redverz offers the comfort, convenience and luxury of complete protection from the elements for both bike and rider. Thanks for the review and honest opinion. Cheers 🥂

I totally agree with you. Some say it's too big but I can't really say until I get back!! Fingers crossed it will be everything that you say and not just a large extravagance!!

I recommend that you take "Kviknebrona veien" from east to northwest.. This route you will talk about for years after. :-) ua-cam.com/video/yFBHmfNvQi0/v-deo.html

I can’t help feeling that if you added a couple of extra wheels to the bike, and some doors and a roof, you might find the whole journey a bit more comfortable?

Looking forward to you trip videos. We're off to Northern Germany on the 29th June for 10 days. Love touring on the GSA, as it is such a good workhorse when loaded and quite sprightly when needed.

Good to see an update. I've just got back from a trip around northern Spain, exploring all the off road routes on my 1250GS. Great riding on all the tracks that seem to go on forever. Already planning the next trip. I live near Hampton Court so will keep a look out and give you a wave if we pass on the A3!

Hi Nick, thanks very much for your message! Northern Spain sounds amazing! I have been on an RT but only on tarmac so I didn't experience the tracks. Were you by yourself? Blimey, you are next door. I am in New Malden so we should get a coffee sometime maybe?

Yes! Cannot wait to see the footage from this one! I've been taking day trips to practice myself. Made it over 360 miles last weekend (almost 600km!). I like the idea of the duffle on the back. I was able to pack quite a bit of kit in both of the boxes and then I just strapped my tent to the tail but I wasn't able to bring my camera. How are the tires working out for you? How many miles so far and wear? Very curious to hear how they do after this trip. Stay safe and hope you have great weather!

Hi Adam, thanks for the message. Your day trips sound pretty cool. The GS is such a capable machine! I remove my top box and replace it with the tail pack and it carries so much kit! The tyres are great. I love them. They are Mitas E10s and they are great on road (for me anyway) and give great confidence off road. I have had those on for about 4000 miles and they are being worn down far faster than a road tyre as you would expect. I will put a new pair of E10s on for the trip.
