I am Karen Clark of Karen Clark Creations, an Artsy Introvert.
I have always been a creative. In the early 2000’s, I got into Photography. I just loved viewing things through my lens and editing photos. I decided to come up with the name Karen Clark Creations. I was going to add “Photography” to my name, but I actually had the thought “But what if I want to do something else besides Photography someday? Like, painting!” So Karen Clark Creations was born and 5-6 years after that I decided to give painting a try.
It has been a fun road full of varying degrees of success. Today I am focusing mostly on Watercolor & Acrylic, but I would love to dabble in other mediums, too. I don’t want to get bored on this art journey of mine.
Please subscribe to follow along. I’m new to this UA-cam video thing so bear with me as I get used to it!

Beautiful 😀
@@pamelaavery2483 thank you!
This is such a cool way to add to your beautiful prints! Monarchs are my favorite! I love how well the original background in your photo matched up to the textures and colors in your print. It came out beautifully!

@karenclarkcreations You're welcome!
Really awesome! It looks great. I’m sure you’re hanging this one up aren’t you.
@@ellencha5975 thank you! I probably will hang it up!
Wow, that texture and pattern on the background it perfect with the butterfly! You can tell you were a photographer with this one!
@@thefrugalcrafter thank you! 🩷
Love watching the butterfly come alive!
@@barbaraclark-x7z thanks!
How did I miss this! I'm glad you posted it on your blog so I didn't miss it! Lovely prints!
@@thefrugalcrafter thanks! I realized this morning that I forgot to publish the blog post. Whoopsie!
I love these! I am so intrigued by gelli plates. Perhaps you could do a demo/lesson on how to make stamps and stencils? (I have quite a collection of small stencils). And then maybe a demo on how you would use some of these fabulous creations in your art? It sounds like some you use as the basis of your art and some you may use in collage? (I found you when you had the play date with Lindsay. 😊) Thank you!
@@elyselaforest7700 hi there! Thanks for coming over to my channel! I just ordered a new knife so I might just show the stencil and stamp process and then try them out on the plate! I have not yet used them for collage, but I have a stock pile for future use. I have used them as sketchbook cover and I've painted on one. The video for that will be out soon.
Thanks
Those are really pretty!! ❤❤

I love this so much! I love the football phone, Marcel, the art supplies, and the Sweet 'n Low/ grilled cheese page. You did such a great job coming up with all these unique ideas for each episode! I can't wait to see what you come up with for future seasons! ❤
@@CautionArtistatPlay thank you! I really love those sweet and low packets! They turned out exactly like I pictured!
@@karenclarkcreations they're perfect! The layout is fantastic, they really feel like they are cascading down the page!
This was such a cool different and FUN…lol idea. Can’t wait to see more 😊
@@pamelaavery2483 thank you! It's certainly making me think outside the box for subjects to paint!
I ❤ painting colour charts. It's the first thing I do when I buy new colours. It's relaxing, low pressure, useful and always beautiful. These QOR colours are 🤩. I only have their starter set of primaries. Jackson's had them on sale 3 tubes for 2.89€ I snapped that so fast!
Oh wow! Great buy! I really enjoy the mixing charts and sometimes I just grab a few colors and mix them to paint random shapes in my sketchbook. It's quite relaxing to not pressure myself to make art and just play with paint.
Exactly. It's fun to give ourselves permission to play without the pressure of creating something that is "worth it". I am enjoying watching your back catalogue . Thanks so much for all your work and dedication. @karenclarkcreations
@berolinastrassmann aw thank you!
@@karenclarkcreations PS. If you buy from Jackson's, do a search with "sample" to discover what they offer. Often they have brushes, paper samples or paint samples at very reduced costs. I always do this before I finish my order, just in case there is something I might want. I have gotten samples of watercolor paper, pencils, canvas, etc. Well worth a try.
@berolinastrassmann thanks for the heads up! I actually didn't think I have ever used Jackson's, but will look into it.
I seriously need to rewatch Friends again! Such a fun show! This came out beautiful as always!! ❤
@@CautionArtistatPlay thank you! It's such a silly feel good show and it's really been fun trying to figure out what random thing to paint in my sketchbook. It's been a great challenge!
@karenclarkcreations I bet! It's such a cool idea, and it seems like it would be a blast to do!
Ooh I was all giddy over your mixing palette, where did you find that one?!! Love QoR, beautiful chart and I love that it can grow with you as you finish filling your palette!
@@ClarkFineArt I think it was a Pampered Chef or similar home sale type product from 20 years ago! I love mixing on it. I look forward to getting a few more tubes of pretty colors, for sure!
@karenclarkcreations, it just goes to show that you can find great art tools in unexpected places!
@CautionArtistatPlay very true!
Do you use color mixing charts?
I love the look of color mixing charts, and I love watching how others make them, but I have never sat down and made one myself! Lol
@@CautionArtistatPlay haha! I also use them as a reminder of what colors I have. I took a picture of mine before I went to an art store so I would know which colors I don't need to buy. 😆
@@karenclarkcreations thats an awesome idea!
I love a good chart! The old one would make a pretty sketchbook cover!
@@thefrugalcrafter I do, too! I'm going to need to make one with my Holbein watercolors, now!
I love that idea!
Beautiful work!! ❤

@karenclarkcreations You're welcome!
This is beautiful! I had no idea that you could use watercolors on Yupo.🤯 Loose painting seems to fit the paper very well. I enjoyed how relaxed it looks, you were clearly having fun. Thanks for introducing the yuoo + watercolor combo. I noticed I enjoyed the music more when it was just music. You have a lovely voice that gets a bit lost when there is music over it.
@@berolinastrassmann thanks for thoughts on the music. I'm still trying to figure out what works best for me. This UA-cam thing is harder than it looks. 😆 I don't find loose painting very easy so using yupo definitely made me get out of my head and embrace what was happening.
5:52 That cabin would be a great reference for a painting ❤

Sorrry, I wouldn’t have known it was a pocket.
@@ellencha5975 oh well. I tried! 😆
@ that’s the whole point of learning. Those that don’t try will absolutely never make a pocket. If it had been an inch deeper and sticking on the side it would have been more obviously a pocket.
@@ellencha5975 I agree 100%... about the learning and the extra inch!
cool sketchbook! weird about the tearing 🥲 ah well
@@YellowMelle thanks! It is a bummer, but since it's my own personal sketchbook I'm totes ok with it. I'm wondering what other black watercolor papers are out there now!
Have you used gouache on watercolor paper? Let me know what you think of it!
They call it mono printing for a reason. You’ll never get two exactly the same so your comment about ‘sisters’ is really …redundant
@@judyk.657 that's why I called them sisters, not twins. I wanted coordinated prints for a booking project. I know they won't be exact, but not everyone does. That was my... Point.
Hey Karen! I'm so glad you have been enjoying the goodies from the workshop! We had such a good time! To answer a few questions: Holbein recently rebranded their Acrylic gouache. It was originally Acryla Gouache, and it was the first of it's kind on the market. But recently they decided they wanted to be more plain with their language and just call it what it is, so they changed Acryla to Acrylic. I think It also helps differentiate from other brands out there that attempted to do similar spelling. (like Turner Acryl Gouache) The colored pencils at the workshop were Holbein colored pencils, they are amazing to work with! If you have any other questions about any of the materials as you explore them more, feel free to message me! ❤
Thanks, Shana! Great info!
@karenclarkcreations you're welcome!! 🥰
18:30 Ant-iBlob tip 💡 Karen, you can try rolling the paint on a plate (or any other flat non porous surface like a tile) and roll the paint there before you go over the stencil. No blobs, guaranteed. I do linoprints and this is how I prepare my ink before I roll my brayer on the stamp. Hope this helps!
@@berolinastrassmann that's a great tip! I do have an extra piece of acrylic that I can use. I'll give that a try next time, thanks!
1:03 Acryla is the Turner brand for acrylic gouache. Gouache on black paper looks amazing, will definitely try it. I ❤ your gelli plate printed cover, it is as unique as the sketchbook. Thanks, Karen.
Oh!! Thanks! I love that I'm thinking of ways to use those gelli prints and this way is definitely my favorite, so far. I love getting something tangible that I can use when I'm finished.
Hi Karen, I was very confused by your series title at first. XD I thought you’d be painting in someone else sketch book. Like a collab. 😂 I’ve never seen the TV series Friends. But the title of this episode makes me think it must have been full of shenanigans. 🤣
@@starshinesoldier hello! I had someone else say the same thing about "my Friends sketchbook". Maybe I need to rethink the format of the title. 😆 It's my favorite tv show from many years ago so I'm dedicating an entire sketchbook to it and I'm having a great time!

@@jcdesign4454 that's a good question. It is entirely possible. I'm going to research that a bit. Thanks!
Thanks for the flip through. I appreciate the stories that come together with the paintings. Ilsketching, drawing, painting is the best way to keep memories and emotions around those memories in sight.
I totally agree! I hope I continue to remember the details of my paintings as I age.
This looks so good! Love the idea of a DIY stencil. If youndonthis again, you could draw the shape of your drawing and adhere it lightly to the page before stenciling. This mask would give you a textured background but a smooth shape where your subject goes. It would be easy with big shapes, like these two mushrooms. I am definitely trying this. I have some texture medium that Inhavent used in a long while. Thanks for the inspiration.
