“I often think that the night is more alive and more richly colored than the day” wrote artist Vincent Van Gogh. In this sometimes-difficult season of the longest nights, of winter, and of Solstice, how might we find new vitality and deeper dimension in our lives? December 8, 2024: Small Potatoes

Though we often talk about our “peak expereinces” of life, the substance of our lives, and movements for justice, are made up much more of the small things - little moments where gratitude is offered or connections made, small changes that add up to a big difference. today we reflect on life’s small potatoes.

When political crises descend or holidays arrive, the feelings of loneliness or helplessness can overwhelm or immobilize us. And yet, as Rev. Wayne Arnason reminds us, we know that deep down, there is another truth: we are not alone. We gather this Sunday to ground ourselves in our connectedness.
November 17, 2024: The Art of Survival at the Edge
Переглядів 85Місяць тому
Around the world and throughout time, there have been people whose lives are lived in the in-between spaces and the both/and places of their cultures, including transgender and non-binary people. As we face a political climate where so many of our core values are at risk, what can we learn about survival and resistance from those who have always lived at the overlaps and the edges? * note: foll...

Join us this Sunday as we look to find a way forward together.

Let us gather to honor our dead, our martyrs, our saints and celebrate our ancestors throughout space time. Death is as sacred as birth and the only unavoidable experience for living beings. Why is death so increasingly banalized and natural death inadmissible instead of being honored? Service led by Rev. “Not for ourselves alone are we born” wrote Marcus Tullius Cicero over 2050 years ago. When we gather together in community, our imprint on the world becomes magnified beyond our comprehension. What does it mean to put ourselves in service of something much greater than our own lives?
October 20, 2024: People Have the Power

In a country of nearly 350 million people, it can often feel like our individual voice, or our individual vote, does not matter. Yet the power in democracy is not in 350 million isolated voices, nor even in the offices of elected officials; it is in ‘small groups of thoughtful, committed citizens’ working together persistently to change the world. How will we use our power?

Maxine Hong Kingston writes "When we are born, we have curses and gifts from our parents and ancestors [that] come from way back” that shape our lives far more than we can ever fully know. As Jews in our community and around the world prepare for Yom Kippur, or the Day of Atonement, how might we reconcile with what we have received from generations past? What covenant might we make with the fut...

this is one of my favorite hymns and I just found a recording on my phone from 2/9/2020. We were all present in church, I had just started a new job after being discharged from the hospital. I'm glad I found this specific recording!
She's my relative
Brought to us from the church of "Anything Goes"
I love the harmony✨that was beautiful
Beautiful! Thank you.
uplifting😁

Great rendition!!!
We need more of this. Don't stop putting out the message.
Beautiful! Loved it! Thank you for sharing!
This is not the time to get lessons from water lillies, but to teach the good soil messages of the word of GOD . Not one word about the person of CHRIST, neither grace nor judgement of GOD. Ops, i forgot. You don't teach such, do you. Forgive me.
John is my hero 💗
🤣😂🤣 what a joke
I love watching/listening to these, thank you for uploading them to UA-cam :)
we need to pass the equal rights amendment

My all-time fav hymn!! I want it at my Memorial when I move on!
When you talk about the demon from Amy Poehler I couldn't help but laugh but I could totally relate as I've battle that voice most of my life. It's difficult most days. I'm grateful for the community I find myself in here to help me thru.
Powerful!
That was just lovely, truly. Thank you.
Lovely
Her name mispelled in the title.
One knee symbolize respect union marriage power worship protection
Amen!
Please supply the two phrases that were blocked out just before 10:40.....
The intentions.......I pray we may speak them, we may pursue them.
This is far different from the legendary shows that happen at this church
as usual, what i needed to hear. thank you, Rev. Abbey.
Very meaningful sermon! Thank you!
Thank you.
do you eat sugar to this day and perpetuate the very thing your speaking of?
I had to listen to this a second time to make sure I didn't miss something. This was an incredible message and I truly needed to hear it. Plus am more blessed to share it will so many others who I KNOW will be blessed by it. I will do my very best to show some love to myself. Thank you for these wise words truly.
Beautiful!!!!!
this is beautiful! thank you.
The last time I felt this dissociated after a UU sermon, I was told I needed to reconcile myself to my abusive, toxic family that I was N/C with at that point three years. Trans people literally biohack ourselves. I changed federal policy in the face of an openly fascist regime with a hair tie, an ice pack, and a utility knife. That is how I was forced to perform my orchiectomy. Include us. Do better.
This is new age teaching, you are not sharing the word of God. Jesus is our hope and Joy. He is the prince of peace
GOD GREATED ALL THESE THINGS YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT.
Why don't you talk about the miracles of Yeshua!! He is our Hope And our focus must be on him. Him alone. BLESS YOU.! SHALOM.
Hey guys thank you. A sincere rendition of one of Jackson’s finest songs. I suspect this song will be sung in many communities around the world.
like the keybs!
Very very nice and cosy...❗💙
Sweet.
Sweet.
My favorite version of this ❤️🦋
@14:47 (timestamping so you know I watched to the end and am asking earnestly) Where do trans bodies fit into this? There is no group of people I know of more ready to chuck off ALL of the harmful stuff talked about in this sermon than trans people. And yet, we don't even get so much as a mention. Even though there are currently 33 states with laws being written against us, some of which seek to criminalize even providing life-saving medical care for us. Two of which have been signed into law. So where do trans bodies fit into this? If it's "don't change your body because you are fearfully and wonderfully made", you're advocating genocide, and you should own it. And if you mean to tell me that I'm not already doing what I can to protect people from harm and undo evil because I'm pushing forward with my transition, I've been doing that already and will continue to do so until I die. So please answer my question. Because I'm tired of seeing TERF stuff in UU congregations.
I loved this sermon SO much and I’m very glad it made it to UA-cam <3
Awesome message!
