Great video .just to say the blacks are a bit heavy .If you shoot in flat -standard or neutral your dynamic range will expand into the darker shadows and bring life into the blacks .

I find it hilarious that here in 2024 my G15 is still like new and I still think of it like it's a new camera,and the word VINTAGE really does NOT apply. Awesome camera to this day.

It will interesting to see what happens to your sensor. I have this same lens, along with the original Spotmatic that it came on. It's a great lens with unique characteristics. I have mount adapters for M42 to both Pentax K and Canon EF. Focus is hard to get, but more accurate with the Pentaxes. The Canons are off a little, (clear in viewfinder, but resulting image is actually off). I found that if used in live view mode, the focus can be achieved perfectly. I think this is because the adapter for the Pentax fits AROUND the mount, whereas the Canon adapter is like yours and may be slightly changing the flange distance enough to not get the focus exactly as you're seeing it in the viewfinder. So the secret is to use a later DSLR with live view or a mirrorless camera. I have a couple mirrorless bodies, but don't really feel it's worth exposing them to the radiation. A have some non-thorium Pentax K-mount lenses that work fine with them anyway. I do like the bokeh of this lens though, and it's very sharp!

Yes I had the G15 I took some fantastic pics with it and your right the 1.8 lens is a real blessing considering how much a stand alone 1.8 lens would cost and one can learn photography with it too as it has everything inside that a DSLR has. Now I'm lusting after the G16 version. I got my G15 for less then 150 bucks.

I just purchased on of thse on eBay and am going to use it for my video seminars at 45mm f16 for a sharp background of my library behind me at eight feet. I saw this video and I said, Wow! I have an FD 50mm, three Hexanons, a Yashica, and a Minolta Rokkor coming. I have these mounted to a Canon R8 with needed converters. I haven't seen a dedicated prime at 50mm for the R mount manual except some ASPC/'FF Chinese lenses which I might try next. You can't have enough lenses, right?

Leave the Pentax-M lenses for manual film bodies... spend a little more and get Pentax-A lenses for use with these early digital bodies. Control the apperture from the camera then. 😊

Funny that you give the Canon crop factor of x1.6 then do the maths at the correct x1.5 that these sensors have. 😊 I have a K-m 10mp model.. and have found results to be stunning with the 50mm SMC A f1.7.. the 80-200 f4.5-5.6 film era kit lens.. and the 70-210 SMC A f4. I also have two 18-55mm DA kit lenses. One very crisp.. the other suffers from blistering of the lens element coatings so rather soft contrast with spreading highlights. My K-m is very much like the K-r but with the CCD sensor.. so no live view and no red viewfinder illuminated focus area confirmation points. Just bought a K100D for £20 so looking forward to trying it with AI upscaling. Maybe shoot and crop to square 2000x2000 then use free AI scaling software at x2 to stay within the 4k limit imposed by most free versions. Great advantage of the CCD models is their use of AA batteries.

I have the Pentax istDL and the K100D i bought both cameras new and still use them they all work fine with Pentax screw drive autofocus lenses. The green dot is fine for manuel focus.

I am aa big fan of this lens. Despite quite big and heavy, I used this lens as a travel lens. It delivers great results with landscape and street photography

Every pentax 35mm film camera since 1972 had open aperture metering

Great little camera! I am a professional photographer with several very expensive DSLRs and I bought a used G15 for my wife. She is not into photography and wanted something that was "easy to use." Point and shoot cameras have largely been replaced by phone cameras and point and shoots these days tend to be either junk or high end and expensive. So I opted for a slightly used G15 at B&H. In order to show my wife the basics I had to use the camera a bit and I was so impressed with it that I bought another used one for myself. A few months later I was putting together a selection of my images for a potential client and I was amazed to discover that one of the ones I'd selected had been shot with the G15. On the screen it was impossible to tell the image had been shot with a Point & Shoot camera. No doubt the quality would drop were you to make a large print but since most amateur photographers these days shoot entirely for Facebook and Instagram this camera really excels. They are getting harder to come by however. A recent search of B&H, KEH, etc came up empty…so if you want one best act quickly.

Other reports I've read on this lens are lukewarm at best. Might not be so good on a full-frame camera. I picked one up anyway because it was such bargain ...

How do you find using the viewfinder to focus using manual lenses since this camera used pentamirror? Is it hard? I was thinking of getting a Kr since every DSLR after Kr have that solenoid problem and I am planning to use manual lenses as my main lenses.

Great review, how would you rate this vs the g1x ii? Im scoping both of them relatively cheap on my local classifieds. On paper the g1x seems quite superior but this seems like more of a daily driver.

Wierd thing. In the video with the geese flying by I almost seemed 3D the sound. Sounded like they were flying behind me at one point I had my Sony earbuds in.

I thought the pictures were really excellent and the video as well there's a G15 in our local exchange shop for £140 tempted to purchase it!
