Modified Faulty Ring Pro floodlight into working non smart floodlight project
See other video for the issue that killed this ring flood light pro system,
I wanted to try and recycle the unit rather than send it to landfill as the remaining electronics seem reasonable quality
If you loop the common and +ve terminal inside to bypass the faulty camera control unit you will be left with a very bright twin LED floodlight that can be controlled by a switch, sensor or timer

This Ring floodlight pro camera failed after 2 years of installation, this must be a common problem looking at the design, 90% of this unit is really nicely designed but the lens seal is very thin double sided tape, with the heat & cooling it failed and allowed water into the unit: Thought I’d tear it down to see where it failed and if it was worth repairing See my other video on how to reuse t...

Barn Find 1978 Triumph Stag v8 - off the road 40 years! Bought 1981 by my grandpa- taken off the road 1985ish for a respray - this was done (badly!) and the hard top damaged afterwards and was abandoned. First light of day in over 40 years and first look over Hopefully part 1 of a restoration story!

I have a wired floodcam plus that is several years old. The camera and IR sensor were full of water. I called service and it was a year out of warranty. They gave me a coupon for 35% off. I brought the old camera in and let it dry for a couple of weeks. My plan is to clean it up and caulk the hell out of it and see if it happens again. The floodlights were staying on with very little output, I assume there is corrosion inside. I don't see any easy way to open this unit up. Was thinking of 3D printing some sort of cover for it?

hi, are you sure the water came through the front cover and not from the top? because I also see that you tear down the top seal.

@@darthvaider4347 as sure as I can be, I stripped the top first but all dry and free from corrosion (there is a hidden micro usb under the rubber and a pcb under the button) there was visible damp under the seal on the front and the front seal is only a couple of mm which seems way to thin to cope with repeated heating/cooling

Very informative Andrew, thank you, this is exactly what happened to my floodlight, i am in the process of disassembly to learn from it and see if it is worth repairing although I doubt there are parts for these devices, RING would only offer a discount on next purchase if at all. Let's see how my project turns out.

Thank you. ring only offered a discount with this unit too, I have fitted lots and had no problems but this one was on a south facing wall and got very hot then cold I think the adhesive used is too thin and weak…check my other videos for what I did with it in the end making a “dumb” led floodlight

Looks like an excellent project. Start by wire brushing the underside and work you way up. Check the sills for integrity. Also do thorough inventory of parts. All the best in the endeavour.

Looks like everything is there. Get the paint and panel work out the way first seeing as it's in the correct state to sort it. Looking forward to the progress on your stag Cheers.

I just checked but I think it’s off a totally different car! Very different profile and no side indicator! Thanks for the tip I just got a Leyland parts catalogue delivered, it’s about 2” thick and I think working out what is what could take a while!

Hi It's the rear stag name plate on the rear of the car, not a indicator

Looks like a great project, most solid , and good head start , yes keep us posted , only advise crank must be hardened if need grind , make sure oilways aare totally clean, use standsrd thickness head gasket if , not skimmed, if skimmed. Use thick gaskets, pattern water pumps seal spring to strong. Use old spring, oil Pressure should be. 40 psi when hot ,, avoid high pressure pump, thats it for now thanks for sharing. ,

We used to to work on these in the garages, and now have one , yes just to explain water pump seal you can prise out the strong spring and something like a carburettor spring compare with old original pressure prevents failure, use good used gear shaft if possible and that goes for most parts I have found best because they are probably hardened, best to join stag owners club or look on website and look at top tips , a fine motor car ,
