      The back plate and spinner are best balanced mated together.....I drill divots out of the back plate with a drill press and add weight to it as needed. It's a tedious process checking the balance after each drill/divot ......it took me about 5hours to complete this one....

    It's certainly "a maiden" - the morning after the wedding night! 🙄😉 At least you're having fun there. Youse fellahs are certainly bright enough to have freed up the rudder hinges, checked for pushrod binding/flexing etc before trying it but did you check if the servos are still solidly glued to the board? They only use 1 screw and some chewing gum on a tab on the other side which has a habit of coming adrift. All in all a nice looking toy but not confidence inspiring as supplied. 🤨

    • @paulhlange
      @paulhlange 10 місяців тому

      The plan is to swap out the receiver with another brick that is compatible with OpenSource Radio (TX16S) transmitter....this should afford better flight performance at least by flying with a hobby grade transmitter with much greater control.....perhaps to the degree of no stabilizer needed to fly. The replacement receiver will have complete AS3X and capability to toggle Off/On during flight. This little bird could be an excellent model if the receiver swap out is successful.....Safety crew and flight boss will be standing by for future experimental flights.

    • @theoztreecrasher2647
      @theoztreecrasher2647 10 місяців тому

      @@paulhlange Yep. Most folks are just swapping in the XK A280 P-51 board since it's a drop-in alternative with no need to find and mount extra rudder/elevator servos and is Multi/S-bus/DSM compatible. Sad that they changed the original protocol on the A300. We've got A280 spare boards etc but I wonder if they might stop selling them sometime? Apart from that option another PPM/S-bus receiver + Byme-A stab unit + 2 replacement servos + aileron servo plug change would work. OR as you say, go full manual with a normal receiver and 2 servos added. Best of luck! 😊

    • @paulhlange
      @paulhlange Рік тому

      Depends on your skill level and Airfield runway.....I fly off of well manicured grass just fine. Take off and flying are pretty easy as the model flies exceptionally well. The landings must be very soft and due to the tail, landing with nose wheel flare will strike the tail, therefore landings must be level three pointers and smooth. I have no reference to flying off of hard surface runway. The assembly may be challenging for Noobs due to the twin set up....however if you are Balsa ARF experienced it's really a straight forward assembly. I was really surprised how it flew even in gusty wind conditions. Oddly satisfying subject matter. I did damage a wing after a landing gear pulled away in soft muddy conditions - I ordered a replacement wing and flying it just fine afterwards. Strongly suggest reading over the RCGroups thread for this model...tons of real life experience is available for this model: www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?3565749-Dornier-Do335-Pfeil-Black-Horse-Models and www.hobbysquawk.com/forum/rc-airplanes/rc-propeller-airplanes/239941-official-black-horse-1724mm-dornier-do335-pfeil-arrow-thread

    With any airplane, when you get into a bounce like that , add a little power to settle it down

    • @paulhlange
      @paulhlange 2 роки тому

      Negative sir....on this model landing on our rolling grass strip adding throttle to land is not the answer. Must apply full throttle and fly out at the slightest hint of bounce and try again. This bird lands once if and only all the energy is gone at main landing touch down.....unlike "Any Airplane" on our grass strip. I will re-install the stock 4wheel landing gear and try again soon.....I think the stock landing gear configuration will help brake or quickly burn off speed thus preventing secondary take off from our bumpy runway ski jumps.

    • @paulhlange
      @paulhlange 2 роки тому

      The amount of weight to add is subject to the weight and placement of your ESC and again with your flight battery. The set up for my model has about 210grams of lead weight in the forward bottom of the cowling. Balance your aircraft as needed with no regard to mine....but yes probably will need balast in the nose.

    Final discovery on this aircraft for loss of control was indeed "Loss of Radio Signal". This was caused by "Loss of onboard Power". This was caused by a faulty power switch for the onboard flight battery to the receiver. It took me a couple more flights where the aircraft did the same thing after changing out the receiver power battery, then next switching receiver. Discovered the switch would not allow power to the receiver when toggled for a moment at a subsequent diagnostic start up.....intermittent gremlin!! Once I simply removed this faulty switch.....the aircraft has flown successfully many times over.

Lower your flight times as you will be WOT most of the time...yes it can handle the wind depending on your skill level of course. Mileage may vary.

    • @paulhlange
      @paulhlange 5 років тому

      No stalls, this is a pretty old airframe but in excellent shape. It was flying very uncontrollable, more acrobatic than I am capable of. Thought it was losing radio signal. After a couple more flights of near crashes I discovered the old plastic onboard power switch that was used to provide power to the radio and electronics was failed. Final conclusion was the plane was repeatedly forced into safe mode after losing electronics power ....each power cycle the control surfaces would move in various positions at power loss, then snap to my control signal upon restore. It is a marvel this airframe still exist......I had to endure several more flights before I trusted it......not very fun flights awaiting the dreaded flogging. Subsequent flights have proven the airframe is now bug free.....now I can start learning how to fly it this summer.
