Ep 229: How Pets Help Kids and Process Loss with Dr. David Edwards
Переглядів 34День тому
One of our favorite comments-whether in counseling or on the road is when we meet folks who tell us that we’re the reason they got a dog (unless they got a bad dog…and then we’d maybe rather not hear about that! 😉) But it has happened more times than we can count because-you all know-we believe so strongly in the power of pets in the lives of kids. We cannot count how many times we’ve had kids ...
Ep 228: Milestone Six - Reciprocity
Переглядів 5114 днів тому
This week on the podcast, we’re talking about reciprocity, which simply means the back and forth of conversation-or even relationship. Most kids-most of us-lean toward either initiating or receiving. Think of it like tennis…hitting the ball back and forth. Back and forth. Both are involved in healthy relationships and we want the kids we love to learn to do both! . . . . . Connection is so important with adoptive families! As a therapist who specializes with this pop, I’m here to tell you that connection first makes all the difference! My families will tell you it is a game changer too!
100%!!! Also, you know your kids best. Don’t ever let anyone convince you otherwise.
It is incredibly INCREDIBLY concerning that you folks are using the enneagram in your teachings. 19:51 there is NOTHING biblical in the enneagram. In fact it arrived out of practices that are the antithesis to biblical teachings, occult and demonic practices actually. I really pray you have gotten away from this.
Thanks for bringing this information to us parents! Love you guys!! Don’t know where I’d be without your direction, advice and encouragement!!
Thank you for your kind words!!
My son’s bio Dad is extremely manipulative and it’s manifesting as my son lying to me and my husband even though he knows our family has a zero tolerance lying policy. How do I show that I unconditionally love my son, do not approve of his lying, and understand he’s too scared to stand up to his bio Dad?
Fabulous podcast!!!👏👏👏 I love OSPREY, and I love Erin and Ben! This podcast should be listened to by everyone in the world!! Thank You so much ! Blessings and love from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada 🇨🇦 🙏🙏🙏💕💕💕
Love Lady A! And I love the dog is just casually photo bombing this entire thing!
Wow!! She is great. So down to earth and has such inspiring things to say. And I have to say the first thing I noticed was the her books in the background are color coordinated. Love it!
Alison, your encouraging word of reframing the view of self and emotions in the context of following Jesus is a powerful and liberating message, not just for women. Many of us have wounds from misconstrued messages from the church, and your work very effectively shows us how to apply the tools of psychology to love and live like Jesus better. Thank you for your courageous work, and thank you Sissy and David for your always timely podcast and guests!
Our boys aren’t quite old enough yet, but I may have googled how far is it to Alpine from Kansas City! 😂
This series is SO helpful. Where is the second part for the middle years-- what they need?
So glad you are enjoying it! Here you go! ua-cam.com/video/e-3A1CVYWVY/v-deo.htmlsi=ErL_klBZD2ZTerzW
Do you have a chart at all that shows recommended bedtime and recommended screen time per age? I realize this is something that would be so individual to each child, but just anything as a gauge that you have found helpful? I love the idea of laying out the roadmap far in advance so they know what to expect each year. And then always adjusting or pulling in the slack if they need adjustment. We are just in the very beginning stages of this age group.

So good! Shanera's analogy of "bricks inside our backpacks" - so real & relatable to explain the racism our children experience.
Great discussion from Brown Mama Bear! Loved the “no longer fraction myself..:: I’m showing up whole”. 🙌🏽
I have to say, she had me locked in with the moment she started talking in that calm quiet voice. :) also her comment about setting a timer and saying “ we have to talk about this for 90 seconds and you don’t have to look at me” all of this was pure gold and so helpful. Thank you, thank you for the time. ❤
Yes! My question is though... what do you say!?
What a beautiful conversation! So many takeaways for me.
Shawn, I am close to your age and I relate a bit to some of your feelings and approach. It actually helped me. Thanks!
Yay I’m the 500th subscriber ❤! Love this podcast. Have been listening on apple and now here.
Thank you guys! Laughed and cried but no surprise because it’s with good ol Max.

Oh my goodness the cooking part with Kimberly was so cute! Now I want fish tacos. How genuine she was just like ya’ll!
Thank you for this message of guidance. Thank you for being strong and working with the families during this difficult time when you are also processing. We will continue to pray for the Covenant school and for you. Truly thank you for everything you have done to help our little ones.
Great Job Aunt Ashley!
Where can we find your season 1 and 2 content? My wife and I were journeying through that and we are sad to not be able to complete those seasons! Thanks for all the great work you do!
