William Dafoe played Max Shreck, the actor who played Count Orlock, in the 2000 film, “The Shadow of the Vampyre,” The film asks whether Shreck is an actual vampire or simply a method actor. I think you would like it. Dafoe got a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his performance.

This looks like it might be as awesome as the original silent film. The vampire, rather than being a romantic antihero, is more rat like and terrifying,

Riley is an addict, and he knows it. He lives with the consequences of his addiction, every night, when he sees visions of the girl he killed. Father Paul is an addict who isn’t aware of his addiction. In fact, until he kills Joe, he sees his addiction as primarily good and as a gift from God, and he believes he is sharing a miracle with his congregation. Because he mistakes what happens to him for a miracle, he ignores the negative side effects. He has no resistance to his addiction. Because Riley knows he is an addict, he has the ability to resist, in spite of his desire for blood. He also knows that he won’t be able to resist forever.

Nobody on the island recognizes that Father Paul Hill is Monsignor Pruitt de-aged, because the only contemporary of Pruitt is the doctor’s mother, Millie. Everyone else on the island is middle-aged.

Nice reaction. Mike Flanagan is an atheist and former Catholic, so Midnight Mass is sort of a job at Christianity, trying to equate it with cultlike behaviours. I ignore that aspect of the series and enjoy it as a novel variation on the vampire story. And, yes, the vampirism myths do sort of turn Christianity on its head. The stuff about we're all stardust is straight out of Carl Sagan. He was an American astronomer who hosted a popular science program called Cosmos ages ago. He was an agnostic and was famous for saying we're all made of starstuff. Some atheists have latched onto this notion as a sop for death. When we die, we become one with the Universe, again, or some such. Fr. Paul/Msg. Pruitt clearly exhibited willful blindness about his "Angel" and its "gift." His actions were, at least, partly determined by selfishness. He wanted to use the gift to save his longtime love interest, Mildred. He also shared it with the islanders, of course. Pruitt healed them of their infirmities like Jesus. Pruitt deluded himself into thinking he was doing God's work. No doubt, he was influenced by his Angel, although that aspect of their relationship remained a mystery. The Angel wanted an army to make converts in world. Bev Keene knew Paul Hill was Pruitt, and she saw him make the lame walk, so-to-speak. In her madness, clearly, she was crazy, she saw him as the Second-Coming of Jesus. Either to verify this or to hasten God's plan, she was a rather impatient person, she poisoned Pruitt, fully expecting him to raise from the dead. In the universe of this story, people don't know about vampires or vampirism. The rules are a little different. They don't have super-strength, although that might come later, perhaps. They don't need invitations to enter homes, and they don't have fangs. However, anyone who's consumed vampire blood is part-vampire. While the head vampire lives, if such a person dies, you became full vampire. The people who didn't drink the poison, but were killed by those who did, will be vampires. Because the Angel couldn't fly to safety before the sunshine destroyed him, the contagion in Warren and Leeza dissipated. However, so did its healing properties, and Leeza would not have use of her legs, again. Erin Greene had clipped the Angel's wings. I liked the series very much, and it's Flanagan's personal favourite, apparently, but I find The Haunting of Hill House even better. It's incredibly good.

You'll probably enjoy Flanagan's "The Haunting of Hill House." I actually rate it higher than "Midnight Mass."

I never considered the possibility that Bev had poisoned him. I just assumed that he poisoned himself so that he would finish transitioning after he died. Your idea sounds more likely though. Drinking blood, eating flesh, blood magic. It doesn't seem strange to a lot of people because they are so used to it.

You're right, there are similarities to this and both Stephen King's Storm of the Century and Salems Lot. Mike Flanagan is a huge Stephen King fan. I love how he shows the dangers of religious fanaticism from an atheist and sceptics point of view. He shows what it's like to be a non believer or a believer in a different religion in a religious community.

It's 30 miles to the mainland. And in a rowboat? Would you want to do that? I wouldn't. What if you get swells/rough sea/winds/weather? I guess, theoretically, you could, but who'd want to? She could obviously catch the ferry, though. On the other hand, if I were on an island of vampires and that was my only way out, well, I guess I'd have to do it and hope for the best. So, everyone who's taken communion is part vampire, basically. That's pretty much the whole island at this point. What's happening is that everyone is returning to their peak condition. For Erin, that means no baby. Her body just reabsorbed it, I guess. The doctor's mother has been getting a lot of blood, that's why she's been progressing so rapidly to her peak condition. If any part vampires were to die, they'd become full vampires. That's what happened to Fr. Paul/John. By the way, I think Bev poisoned him, too. She's a madwoman who thinks Fr. Paul is the Second Coming or something. She was trying to hurry to process along and/or prove her belief. Talk about arrogance! Course, he's taken the name of Paul the Apostle. What did Paul the Apostle do? He took the Gospel to the Gentiles, he converted them. Fr. Paul is doing the same thing for his _Angel,_ converting the islanders to vampires ... and beyond? Oh, I'm guessing taking communion during pregnancy is ok. It's such a small amount of wine/alcohol. On the other hand, proper drinking during pregnancy is not ok.

You were thinking of Sonia from Sonic Underground at the end. She's Sonic's sister. But she's not in the game continuity. Generally when people think of a girl hedgehog in the games, it would be Amy Rose, who is Sonic's love interest.

Fantastic review

It is a movie, based on a couple of pages in an appendix. Gondor is overrun at the same time. The trailer is dreadful, it totally relies on nostalgia and sucks the life out of the story. I say this because there is a Japanese trailer, much better edited, with more action and less dialogue and getting you emotionally involved. Necessarily most of it will be made up. Let's hope the the writers have learned from The Hobbit! I'm guessing that at heart it's another and hopefully better love story, perhaps even with a happy ending. Now that would be something!
