Bludhoney Records: The Disappearance of Music's Most Innovative Label
When it comes to labels defining sounds in particular genre, they’re arguably just as important as the artists themselves. Almost every innovative artist has a strong label behind it. Labels like Aftermath Records, The Elephant 6, XL Recordings. All of which contributed a fresh take to their genre with the artists they would pick up and the sound they would define. And this is no different in Vaporwave or Dreampunk. With labels popping in and out all the time bringing innovative styles and artists to the forefront. Though a lot of the time when these labels pop up, they usually keep on chugging until their audience simply loses interest or just continue on, having a dedicated fanbase to this day that is always ready for the next release.
Though in Dreampunk there was a label that seemingly had the world in its hands. A label which not only released great labels, but also was hugely influential in its distribution and packaging of physical releases. Then when they had everything they could ever want, they just stopped. No word. Nothing, at all.

It’s kind of crazy to look back over the years to see how much Vaporwave as a genre has grown. And like with any genre that grows exponentially over time, you suddenly find yourself with a myriad of sub genres. And there is one genre over Vaporwave’s decade long history that has stayed strong. One genre that has developed its own identity and expanded so much that it’s become barely recognizabl...
How A Label Ruled The Internet, Then Vanished
Переглядів 5 тис.4 роки тому
In almost every genre that you can think of, there are artists who help define what that genre sounds like. But what a lot of people tend to forget is that, arguably just as important as the artists themselves, it’s the labels behind them that help curate and compile a sound which defines an aesthetic. And there is a label that did just that in the Vaporwave scene. The label that built the aest...
The Godfather Of Vaporwave: Oneohtrix Point Never

When discussing the influences behind certain genres, especially those permeating from the internet of all places, where influences can come from anywhere, it’s often difficult to pinpoint specific people that we can regard as “influential”. And with a genre that’s vast and all encompassing as Vaporwave can be, we're gonna have to retrace our steps a bit. Let’s take a trip back to one of its mo...

This is cool
Can the music be converted into indie cinema? I've been listening to a few artists after watching this video, and that has inspired me to write 1 or 2 stories I'd like to film and create. What do you think? Will they work?
Kuroi Ame have actually made a soundtrack for a short film, along with myself. We've also had a bunch of stories, games, and music videos made with it. They definitely fit.
Went to Chongqing to listen to this album
I always find the different genres way late. I only found vaporwave a year ago. But I like it.
Great video. Thanks for the shoutouts. ❤
That black Sabbath bit caught me off guard, lol
You are *w u s o* ??? Holy shit, I love your stuff and I didn‘t even know!
The sickness of the internet is the same informations are dropped over and over and over again. Stupid categorizing like vaporwave with ghe camera on a random kid tries to be serious. Here you can understand the difference between an youtuber and a journalist. This is a youtuber. Vaporwave. You went down the rabbit hole to know he used a juno 60. I hate you alll. Alll you thinking they do something with substance.
Listening to this after what just came out January....
What i miss
@@sebdot_ this isn't directly related, viper abducted somebody and kept them in their garage for 4 years if I remember correctly. These two instances paint a clearer picture about viper.
dreamcast summer songs. listen to it. thats the first vaporwave album
Yeah i still consider this a subgenre of vaporwave
Then he left vaporwave
this video has criminal low views. very well done. just finished pt 1 and 2 and these vids are awesome. id love to see more. ty for the hard work

Mf doom should be mentioned listen to the song lavender buds
I seem to remember that label! Back when everything was new and I’d never heard of bandcamp, and was still flipping through SoundCloud for underground music. 😂
there's some misinformation here regarding YCDESC, the album is from 2008 and it's one of the very first cloud rap albums. the chamber 38 release was going to be the first big reissue of the album, that's why there was a lot of hype surrounding it. also no, it's not a meme album and viper is a pioneer of cloud rap and a very innovative producer.
I'm so glad for this guy got to work with The Weeknd. This guy is so talented as an Vaperwave artist.
i remember the vaporwave thing as it occurred. it's wild that it grew so rapidly and fast and now ppl confuse it for chillwave which sort of skirts the concept ._. i guess they can only grasp the hauntology aspect of it all. for me it always seemed the heart of it all centered around hyperreality/capitalist realism conceptually. imo yyu was one of the most original artists. really onto something with that time& album it was fresh.
Ouah you are Wuso ? Incredible ! Bought your digital album Painted With Voices and your CD Don't Forger Me, in my opinion the music you do is really GREAT
Yes I am! That's amazing to hear ♥️
@@sebdot_ Thanks for your music, I think you're really goo at making what you do ! And artists like you are an inspiration to keep having fun with garage band ;)
This was absolutely beautiful
Nice work my dude.
Here is The First Vaporwave Album Made By Devon Hendryx (Now know as JPEGMAFIA) ua-cam.com/video/EM0hOyrQqEw/v-deo.html 2009
Any advice or Vsts should use to get started?
you completely skip over garden of delete, age of, and magic
Early Oneohtrix Point Never is proof that anything can be an album. like wtf even was that? lol Its funny how art can be appreciated and interpreted in so many different ways. As an artist/producer idk why I limit myself sometimes. like who cares what it sounds like? Just make noise!
Watching. Really hoping you talk about napolian/computer dreams. Napolian passed away in 2021. I barely saw anyone even aknowledge it :(
I just discovered 2814 today, and can’t wait to get into dreampunk i’ve been a fan of future funk since 2020. I didn’t even know it was the same genre! Macross, Mere Notilde, Chance De La Soul and Doktor Plektor are some of my fave vaporwave artists
How late are you lol
I listen to 2 8 1 4 to calm myself down while I'm sleeping
It feels like Dream Catalogue and HKE are crazy now!
This is so underrated. Thxs for the recommendations :)
I really enjoyed the production of this video, and this video is good for someone just getting into Oneohtrix Point Never, but there's really been a lot missed, mixed up, and misattributed. Most importantly to the video, Oneohtrix Point Never didn't start making vaporwave as Chuck Perrson, he and Joel Ford had a project called Games where they released 3 mixtapes of pure vaporwave before Eccojams released. It's also maybe understandable to attribute Replica's influences to Returnal, but if you're interested in vaporwave, Oneohtrix Point Never released an album called KGB Nights / Blue Drive (Oct 2009) before even Russian Mind which had multiple pieces of proto-vaporwave and sampled noise. Some other nit-picks that are kinda beside the point of the video: choosing to start Daniel Lopatin's electronic career with Infinity Window's second album is just strange. It's literally his 27th release, and was released the same year as KGB Nights. He had been releasing electronic music as Dania Shapes as early as 2004 before he took the name Oneohtrix Point Never, and the glitch-based noise of those releases could've been interesting to draw parallels with in Replica and Eccojams. Year and a half old video so idk who is really gonna read this but yeah, good info to keep in mind.
Vapor's not dead
DJ Screw
Yo, where TF did you go? I just found you
Great voice... But the dude looks like the bastard love child of Billy Corgan and Josh Homme after using Alanis Morissette as an unwilling surrogate :| just saying....
WHY
Wuso you are a devilishly handsome man. Love the vids and the music!
Man this mini documentary is so good. Great voice by the way
Can you pls, pls, pls make a video about telepath?
such a cool video!
thanks man!
Hi wuso I love your videos they make me very happy
Through the algorihtm, I found a great channel, FINALLY!
Bless the algorithm
Gateway Ascension and Ehime/Sadness were original compositions by telepath and HKE as well! And interestingly the first two tracks on Ehime/Sadness by telepath are actually just his old songs where he used to go under the alias Scintillation
Actually didn't know that! Thanks for the info.
I love this guys vids and I'm so bummed that for whatever reason, he will probably not come back to it for a couple years or perhaps never come back. The channel is just at that size and the dudes at that consistency where I get the vibe that he will be on a very long hiatus.
