Glad you enjoyed it!
18:30 At's Peterheed nat picter. Ah kin see far Peter Buchan bid.

'At wis affa bonny min. Poetry. I lumped fish at the fish market in the late 70's and the variety of species was amazing. In the mid-70's as a newly-fledged teen I picked herring up off the pier (with permission) when the hopper became overfilled during unloading. You could fill a shopping bag in 5 minutes and be on your way. Then there was the batten(?) boats unloading hundreds of cut planks on to the quay where they sat for weeks. The 'Klondikers' sitting out in the bay. I waded through the mud looking for lobsters in car tyres when they deepened the Faithlie basin. Back then, when the weather was bad for an extended period, the harbour was full of boats. Sometimes 4 or 5 deep out from the quayside. My grandma had a hoose in Braidsea. 51 Main St. You stepped down into it at the front door and the livingroom window was at knee height on the street side. During the Summer, the braes were full of families having a wee picnic while the kids swam or rock-pooled. Thanks very much once again for the memories. ☺
very interesting film. please add subtitles. you can see a lot of work put into it. wonderful archival photos. I am glad that I live in Broch. it is a really nice town - unfortunately a bit neglected buildings in the center. but it has its charm.
@@MagdaBazant i'll get subtitles uploaded tomorrow. Thank you for watching.
@@apathlessknownthank you for your hard work!
@@MagdaBazant Thats my script added for subtitles.... still some doric and probably spelling mistakes but will be better than the auto-generated
A great video of Peterhead and surrounding area and very informative, well done.
I perform a weekly music gig. One song I perform from time to time is the "Bonny ship the Diamond" which was a ship that operated our of Peterhead. I have a recording on UA-cam.
Thank you for the historical presentation of the Broch and I learnt alot. I lived there in the 1960s as a small boy having arrived there from Canada. I spent much of my time enjoying the freedom of exploring wonderful harbour, so I enoyed looking at the picture of the harbour. I lived there at time of the herring trawlers and I loved talking to the fisherman who were so friendly and kind to me giving me free fish. I used to keep an eye out for certain trawlers like the Tea Rose because the owner lived near us. Also your presentation shows a great view of the beach which I loved to explore and walk all the way to St Coombes.
Really enjoyed the series, thank you.
I can't resist anything 'history', so my adventures on UA-cam take me all over the place. today it's the northernmost part of Scotland. Love that Scots accent. I have no smidgeon of Scots in me as far as I know, some Irish tho, but you know the people of this part of the world had to be tough as nails to survive, so much respect always to the Scots story !
Very lnteresting
Wonderfully narrated.. brilliant video..
Enjoyed this video enormously thank you❤
Very interesting.. look forward to more❤
Lived there from 1947 - til 1953
Brilliant part of our country
Dinna ken if it's jist coincidence, bit the word Nazi pictured wae a scurry made me laugh,,,

❤ the Broch
Absolutely fantastic , thank you so much for your fantastic posts, filming , information, narration in Doric ! Wonderful stuff 🙏🏼
Loved this video never knew half of this about the Broch 😊
Brilliant!
A group of folk and myself did DNA tests for American clan society's. The results showed that people in the northern half of Scotland have predominately Celtic and Finnish DNA. My DNA was typical, 90% Celtic and 10% Finnish. The Finns could have been the deer herders talked about at the start?
Lies the majority of North Eastern Scots have pictish blood markers and almost zero Scandinavian I'm sure because I am born and bred and still stay in Aberdeenshire.
The deer herders were Pictish that's why there's two villages old deer and new deer and there's a famous book called the book of deer lol stop your lies and nonsense home of the CE cruthnie Dunicairn and Dunnottar were the capitals and we fought the Romans at Mons Graupius or bennachie we kicked the viking out at Cruden bay ie death of dane bay 5hey never came back to North Eastern Scotland look it up it's recorded lol
@@StuartAnderson-xl4bo a smart person keeps their mind open, rather than attacking something they dont like! If you think the Picts named their towns new or old deer then you really believe that they spoke English?!?! Why does so much Finnish DNA appear in Northern Scotland?
@McConnachy it doesn't I live there
I think you'd be glad to know that your video reached a Brazilian audience. It's a Very well made content, I'll certainly keep watching this.
Loving the style of these documentaries. Very very well done!
Glad you like them!
Great video, my grandfather was born there in the 1920s, so it was nice to learn a something about where he was from.
I did my own, and came back with 6% norwegian.
'At wis affa fine, min. I left the Broch in 1984 and eventually became a Brocher in Govan. I've left a sub and look forward to seeing more of your videos.
Wonderful series. Beautifully narrated with just that hint of the Doric. Thank you so much for taking the trouble to make and post it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
As a Buchan loon brought up in Old Deer near the ancient abbey and who attended Peterhead Academy this video stirred so many memories for me. Thank you so much for posting it. Oh, and I can still lapse into broad Doric every time I come back.
Say Peterhead, think prison.
A bit random bit dis onybidy kane fit komp meas seen it all about the broch
Wonderfully inspiring storyteller
Love the channel and your videos are quality. Your reading of The burning of Sandy Hay was first class 👌
Great video very interesting, i live a few miles outside The Broch. I have found worked flint, including an early neolithic arrowhead between 5000 and 6000 years old. Probably from local flint.
09:30 Why would Scottish ports have been fortified against the Spanish in 1588? I thought Spains beef was with England. Was Scotland also at war with Spain in 1588?
An amazing amount of research there Jamie and a lot of work, congratulations on putting together and can't wait for part 2. Very very well done👏👏
Fit Dougie said 😁 jist a pity ye didnae show the Faithlie shore aside i Gyte n i Scorgie far they widda hae tae drag their boaties up ;)

Cheers Dougie! Glad you enjoyed it.
@@apathlessknown LOL aye, tell ma aboot it 🤦♂🤣
My mother lived at the prison, not as an inmate, but as part of granny and grandads very large family of 8 kids. She would tell me stories of a prisoner called KAMINSKI. I would love to know more about their time there but only one of my aunties and uncles are left and she sadly has dementia. Any information would be grateful if anyone knows of them. Their surname was MURISON.
KEEP GANIN MIN ! It's a joy to watch, listen and learn.
Fit like ma loon? I have been exiled in Corby, England for the past 62 years. This is making me homesick for the BLOO TOON. One day I'm hoping to get the family " back home" for a road trip.
Glad i found your channel. Visiting Scotland for first time this summer. Ive bookmarked, subscribed so as I build out my itinerary i will give careful consideration to NE. 😊
I'm a tour guide too 😉 if you do decide to come up and see us in the North East
@apathlessknown Thank you, I will reach out once my itinerary becomes clearer. 😊
What a video!
Excellent videos - loving the history. @ 12.13 min on Part 3 - is that Kilmorich Church, Cairndow?
Yes it is
Jackie Dutch Peterhead is known in The Netherlands as well. Dutsch fishermen from Urk for example.
Aye - The Broch inaa. Magic videos min.
31:29 Used to be my old pal Peter Milne's house. I've been up in that bedroom on the left wi a few different quines!! RIP Peter, you were tken away far, far too young.
These early Christian monks brought wth them their Gaelic tounge, and they were the only ones who could write, - So naturally they imposed Gaelic place names everywhere. IMO the locals did not speak Gaelic. Gaelic was an imported thing from the West. I often wonder what the locals used to think, or say about those well off Christian monks within the walls of Deer Abbey with their strange Gaelic language. I wonder what the locals sounded like when they spoke Buchan?
0:10 The tragedy is all the profits, benefits etc from our oil & gas, renewable energy are currently all being stolen by the Anglo-British state.
Great videos. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
