11 ESSENTIAL Driving Tips for Tourists Traveling Norway
I was surprised by how “ready meal” the food looked. I’d expect something slightly better for business class! Or are my expectations too high?
today i saw a car blink his high beams once at another car that was stopped in the middle of the road. it seemed a bit excessive tbh.
Outrageous behaviour haha Here in Aus someone would either sit on their horn until they moved, or start yelling out the window. Drivers here are ridiculous sometimes over moderate inconvenience.
Her eyes peeping out is kind of cute ahahahahh
Thanks for watching :-)
The worst damage was my door.I tried to get out because I thought we were for the precipice. The door hit a rock and exploded. The bus passengers managed to film it apparently. We were stuck in Lofer for weeks with the car in a garage
Sounds like a scary experience!
Watch the brakes.Problems on the Arlberg. Then Dad smashed the car fortunately mountain side on the Großglockner. On front of a farmers' union coach.
Oh damn! I hope no one was injured - not the place to have an accident!
another nice clip, thanks. :) what month was this trip, please?
Thanks for watching :-) The trip was in July.
Excellent storytelling, thanks! (May I ask what website or app you used to book last-minute campsites? And was it challenging to secure campsite spots on such short notice during the peak summer season?)
It was not necessary to book in advance. Just turned up when I felt I was done driving for the day. There was always plenty of room :-) The flexibility of these trips is one of the things i love about it.
is it possible to spend the night in the parking lot with a motorhome? or illegal?
I think it is illegal to stay overnight outside of proper camping sites if you are in a campervan or motorhome. You just won't have the required facilities.
I was planning to stay here for 2 hours...can i get in with shoes on?
Yes of course :-)
@@theslowtraveler2047 I wear boots mostly...so its difficult to take them off.... its good i can just lie down without removing my shoes..
Great video guys. Thanks for the tips on traffic lights. Fellow Auusie here. Boy you were scooting. Loved the respect you should to our diggers in Gallipoli. What must jave been going through thr head's. We did Istabul and Capadoccia 18 months ago, as part of our 3 month European trip, but we flew. Absolutely loved Capadoccia. I cant get enough of Europe. Spent two months earlier this year dragging snowboards all over the place lol Exhausting. We had no interest in doing the balloons, but the sight of watching them from our roof top was amazing. We stayed in a Cave Hotel and it was just amazing. Did a few tours. But loved our Quad Bike tour. The dirt and moutains remind me of one of the old Western Movies. We have just booked to go back to Greece and Turkey next July. Love both places. We are spending 2 weeks doing a road trip down the Turkish Riveria from Bodrum to Antalya. You really missed so much there is to see on the way to Antalya. The more i research the more i wish we had more time. Safe travels to you both and thanks for sharing. Caz
Nice video! Many of these minor backroads have been damaged by a massive storm that we had in September and are unsafe. They are being repaired as quickly as possible.
Thanks for the info! Thats interesting to hear and hopefully they get everything fixed up soon.
Which place is this at 4:59 in norway
That is the Geiranger Skywalk. Stunning mountain top view point that overlooks the town of Geiranger and the fjords :-)
This made me extremely uncomfortable
Me too!! I don’t recommend- but the hike is stunning :-)
Thank you for sharing your incredible trip. You're a lovely narrator.
Thank you for the positive comment :-)
Thank you for making this video, helpful as I decide my itinerary!
Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for watching :-)
Were there any supply shops in designated campgrounds in the Westfjords or did you have to pack up everything for the entire roadtrip before entering the area?
Some of the campgrounds are very remote and may not even have a front office. I would not count on being able to get anything at a campground - better to stock up on all you need in Reykjavik when starting out, or in the various towns along the way.
Norveç 🇧🇻
Thanks for watching :-)
Love it. Thank you
Thanks for watching :-)
Hello great video in which month you visited there
This trip was in July. Thanks for watching :-)
Your video is very informative 🎉 ❤ I lovesd your content. I do have a question 🙋♀️ is it possible to drive in Norway with 2WD ? If yes what we need to make our journey better with 2WD. Thank you in advance ❤
Thanks for the positive comments :-) Our vehicle was 2WD and we had no issues on the roads. A 4WD would only be necessary if leaving the sealed roads as far as I am aware.
@@theslowtraveler2047 thank you very much for the reply ❤️
For you only congratulations for the excellent video edited and well made📹👏 LIKE

Very informative… thank you

great tip about drinking, so one beer at lunch would put you over the limit! that sucks but good to know
Yeah I didn’t know at the time and found out mid trip… not that I was drinking at lunch but still.
hello, what month of the year did you do this road trip? thankyou
This was a July trip
Who's that beautiful woman who keeps photobombing your photos😂😂😂
Paid actress of course :-)
What is the name of the waterfall that you needed to go through private lands to access as you approached Akureyri?
Great tips ! As I now live in Switzerland, all make sense.
Happy to get the tick of approval from a local :-) Thanks for watching!
I think that blanket is a mattress
Either way it was comfy… potentially to the amusement of the crew if i got that wrong :-)
Wonderful ❤
Thanks for watching :-)

What kind of camera did you bring? I have a GoPro and a Sony Camera with a Gimbal. Going to hike it tomorrow and prefer to travel light of course. Hoping you can advice me on this.
This was all done on an iPhone 11… I am overdue for an upgrade haha
@@theslowtraveler2047Thanks. Impressive shots I gotta say. Going with the GoPro myself today then.
It's actually much easier to do than it appears.
Agreed :-) I still don’t encourage it
LOL... unnecessary, too much scare of sheep! She's lucky to be alive xD
Yeah it was a close call haha
Been there, done that.
Glad you made it out in one piece :-)
EXCELLENT VLOG, VERY LUCID, INTERESTING & INSPIRING PRESENTATION.GREAT CHEMISTRY BETWEEN YOU & YOUR BETTER HALF.
Thanks for the positive comment :-)
when was the video taken?
All footage was taken in July. Weather was up and down at this time of year but got lucky on this day :-)
How long is this helicopter ride?
All up probably 45 minutes or so. The first 10-15 was seeing everything around the islands, then you head out into nothingness for 20 min before hitting the reef
How many rides are included in the 45 minute period?
We got 9 hours layover probably book online and this video very helpful
Totally worth the cost on a 9 hour layover
beautiful!
Yeah it’s a stunning place. I hope to see it one day with the sun shining all day :-)
@@theslowtraveler2047 hi! I wanted to ask, what's the best app for buying train tickets in Europe? I am booking from Milan To Paris.!
UPPPSS..!!!! Here the car rental company have done some illegal.! They are NOT allowed to put VAT on the Tollroad fee, 703,30 NOK is the total price for passing all the tollroads whit the VAT included.!
Not something I am aware of. It was a couple of years ago now so probably not worth worrying about.
Do we need to by pass for motorways to drive on it??
The rental company took care of everything so I am not sure if you need anything specific if driving in from another country
Yes to use the Swiss motorways / highways you must buy the annual vignette 40 CHF. if you use local slow streets under 80km/h then no need for vignette.
Love this channel!!!
Thanks for watching. This is much older footage so hopefully you like some of the newer stuff too :-)
Regarding Scoot economy flight booking: 4. The personal item bag dimensions mentioned by my both airlines are quite small 40cm x 20cm x 10cm. Is this very strict or can I carry my normal sized bagpack as personal item bag which is about 150% (1.5x) of this? 5. Can an overnighter trolley bag (44cm x 44cm x 23 cm = 111cm) fit in the overhead compartment? Can I carry this bag as my carry on cabin luggage with Scoot economy?
I just had a regular backpack so can’t comment on the leniency of the crew. I suspect that most of the time you would be ok, but it would depend on the staff there on the day.
Good! So crucial to put the google's map route.
There are a few different ways to explore the region. Lots of winding roads that hug the coastline can lead to much more driving time than expected!!
Regarding Scoot economy flight booking: 1. can we carry some food items? 2. is bagpack (personal item bag) also included in the weight allowance? OR both the luggage/cabin trolley bag and bagpack/personal item bag considered in weight allowance? 3. It is my first flight. Are the bags weighed when we have to board the flight or early on so that after weighing we can eat something at the airport and, probably, buy some food items to take with us on the flight?
Spot on. Note that outside cities you dont really need SatNav or GPS.
Would be brave to have no navigation! A wrong turn could take you way of course…. An old school map would be fine though.
@@theslowtraveler2047 If you are confined to valleys like these ua-cam.com/video/mPBHoVIJSv8/v-deo.html you dont have any choice 😁
Every tunnel has a name and drivers are advised to note the name in case of accidents etc to guide emergency vehicles etc. There are well over 1000 road tunnels in Norway and some 10 % of these are on road E39. E16 is about 100 km in tunnels.
Thanks for adding the extra info :-) I never thought that the tunnels would be one of the memorable things about Norway haha
EUROPEAN APPENDIX: 1. The roads are not just narrow, they are non-standard width. Like they were built after just one too many whiskies. Seriously: markings come and go, signage is scarce, there may be a patch of good road turning into a narrow, unmarked lane, filled with potholes. As to the signage itself, it's not bad once you accomodate the fact these are not idiotproof. Apply discretion. 3. Do not cheap out on automatic transmission. Since "everything is on the wrong side" you have one thing less to worry about. 4.In pertinence to previous points: if you have too much to spare, you might want to go for a Range Rover or some other land barge. Rent a Fiat 500, do your roadtrip and thank me later. 5.Parking spaces; two important points of order: as with missing /scarce/ dilapidated signage - check two or three times for parking in disabled spaces, sometimes it's just a few specks of paint at the space entrance "| . . b |-D" ; there are free parking spaces in laybys near attractions, and the attractions are often packed ("f-off, we're full") - just get accustomed to walking a bit more. 6.Motorways and expressways are a bit worse or on par with those in Romania. An expressway means a short road number, expect level intersections, cattle and or pedestrians crossing, tractors turning and UFO landing. USE DISCRETION. 7. Scots typically are not aggressive drivers, but if you did not take my advice about renting a compact car and are doing an average speed of 30mph in a land barge, please do see a layby once in a while, and let those behind you through. 8.For God's sake, learn to drive in a single-track roads. I was a mere tourist, but I still want to murder that Belgian guy who tailgated us permanenty in one such instance, even if the next passing place could clearly accomodate one or two vehicles. I hope you have finally destroyed your Corolla and had to travel back by plane. 9. If you are a fan of deep fat fried everything, Scotland is the place to go. If your nostrils get offended by the mere smell of a barbecue or frying, you have found yourself in hell. Add the petfood smell at EDI airport, and many Scottish towns smelling of soy sauce (that is malt roasting, mate). All in all, the olfactory sensations in Scotland are more often than not in the pungent department. 10. Install RingGo parking app, it's great, I score it at 2/10. Take heed of private car parks that can accomodate public parking (sometimes an appointment is needed; most parking in cities is reserved for residents and max stay durations) these car parks are often unmarked, behind someone's home, or by a hotel.
