Quick and efficient way to start a coal stove.
Dude! Great video! I live in Houston. Almost wished I lived somewhere cold so I could get one of these babies. There's something about making fire... It's a guy-thing. Blue flame seems very special. Thanks for letting me into your basement! Peace!
😂
Your chimney stove pipe is installed backwards. The pipes is being stalled so that the upper piece fits into the lower piece. That way if there’s any moisture or liquid it gets into the pipe it will flow down into the stove instead of leaking out of the joints when they are installed incorrectly.
Not with coal.
How does this perform if you add wood instead of anthracite
Can you cook with it?
Thanks for sharing. I’ve seen the wood start method. Looks like your method is easier. Gonna give it a shot. Can’t hurt to have multiple ways to start the stove. Much appreciate the content!!
Where is the draft diverter ?
Question, if wood burns from the bottom up and coal burns from the top down, why are you starting a fire from the bottom up? I have a potbelly coal stove and a warm mourning stove, I light them both from the top down using "match light "and have not had any issues
Iv been using an going back to this video for the past few years great idea
Awful music
The easiest method is to load the stove with coal, then turn a propane torch or two up through the shaker grates from the ash door. About 20 minutes later coal is burning and you can close everything up and go about your day!
Yep... I try to be bad all year that way Santa will bring me coal for my stocking
I have a coal stove , Living in Texas it hard to get coal for my stove
Great system! I want to get a coal stove soon.
Hello there. Any planned update videos on the coal stove? Thanks.
Great recommendation for the carbon monoxide detector!! 👍🏼
Match lite is a little too pricey I use Ember's or Kingsford two packs of 20 lb bags when on sale for 16 bucks and embers lighter fluid like 5 dollars for 64 oz Been burning coal for a long time in my hot water boiler heats every room in the house
Can you cook on top of it?
whats hard about lighting a fire , not having ago at you only , hundreds of video about this , theres nothing hard , paper , a bit of cardboard and then thin strips of wood and finally coal , not a problem , roaring fire in 5 minutes
How much is hard coal costing where you are at this year. 2 years ago I was paying $200.00 a ton. This year it is costing from $350.00 to $390.00 a ton. I live in Pennsylvania
doubles as a Barbeque .. wink...
would you feel safe leaving the house for a 12 hour work shift and nobody check the stove for 14 hours?
Thank you, this really helped me understand. I see you like Anthrasite, that sounds good. I didn't quite get how the hopper automatically feeds down with no motor? How does it keep feeding? Thank you.
Gravity feeds it. As the coal burns it turns to powder ash as it does that some falls through the grates on its own but as it does the coal in the hopper slowly lowers down to the active burning bed and it continues to burn til the hoppers empty or the ash suffocates it
Used your method just this evening after watching this video, it worked outstandingly! Thanks for sharing!
Definitely looks like a good way, maybe the best way, to start a coal fire. Simple, easy, clean, quick. Gotta love it.
😂
Starts at 5:30, you're welcome.😀
Is this an advertisement for a stove, or how to start a fire?
I've seen one comment that says it is not recommended to burn wood in this stove, but I can't see any reason as to why? Can anyone share why you shouldn't burn wood in this stove? I have the possible chance of getting a nice used one, but I need the versatility.
If it wasn't made for it you'll over fire it and cause damage
@@gliderydin2911 Ironically, that is the reason I've always been given for not burning coal in a wood stove.
The smoke will muddy the window, and creosote may stick to the exit tube.
@@marcushoward6560 some concept for both fuel types. Wood normally gets only a little air from below most comes from the top or sides from what I've seen and coal is the opposite all its draft air comes from below. If you let that much air in under wood its probably impossible to control and coal in a wood stove is gonna go 1 of 2 ways. It either won't burn at all or if you get it going it'll be less then controllable and then on top of that you can thank the epa for getting involved on how clean the exhaust has to be
many Texan's wished they had a coal furnace this week
Looked like you put about 20/30 lbs in. How long would that burn for?
Looks fun!
My wife got me coal for Christmas. Yep, I got in trouble a few times.
bad boy ...lol
great video does that heat shield behind the stove make difference even though it looks like its on a concrete wall.
The stove we had before this one would get so hot back there it's scorched the paint on the wall, so I put that stainless steel on the wall. It has 3 layers of cement board inside it with air gaps in between them.
How long burn one Bucket
looks like you burn pine scrap s of wood I burn hard wood kndling let it burn for while than i completly fill it with logs with air wide open for little while
How did you get that probe thermometer to attach to the pipe since the pipe is stainless? I thought these thermometers were for double wall pipe only. I have a stainless pipe I'd love to put a probe thermometer on but am unsure how to attach it without the magnet. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.
Coal fried stove
Did you know that wood burns clean than coal
Did you know not a single fuel source produces the same amount of btu's as coal pound for pound
How tall is your chimney/strong is your draft?
18ft strong draft
It's called natural convection. Not gravity.
Convection is a byproduct of gravity. Watch videos of fire in space. Zero convection.
In later video's I see you have some sort of ductwork that transports the heat to other parts of the house if I'm not mistaken. Would love to have a video on that as I'm contemplating this myself but unsure about the firesafety when these tubes are on the attick.
That was a different stove that I installed in my house basement. This stove is in a cabin.
Very good stove please tell me cost in Indian currency and where it is available in India thank you and GOD BLESS YOU
Looks brilliant guys seems yous had a great time out enjoying yourselves why don't we support each others channels looks like we enjoy the same stuff
Great!! I subscribed!!
Awesome video guys!
THAT IS NOT A SUGAR GEODE. YOU WASTED MY TIME!
You DO NOT NEED FONDANT to grow a geode if you make the chocolate shell thick enough!!! Making fondant is A WASTE OF TIME!
love the video I need to find some crown land to camp on
Thanks man!!
What is the mfg of the stove where would you purchase one?
DS Stoves. They are built very well in PA by the Amish. I just got one that is an insert and I love it!!! Most efficient way to heat your house. Also, when you call them, you speak directly to the people that make the stoves. They are first class IMO.
What coal are you using ?
Anthracite
Another benefit of using Matchlight, is your glass won't get crapped out by starting with wood. I started using this stuff a few years ago, and agree it's the cats meow. Learned it from the experts at the forum "Coal Pail," which originally was labeled NEPA Crossroads. If you're a coal burner, and looking for info and entertainment, give them a look. :)
