I was living in Atlanta and had the Georgia radio station. Their famous announcer Larry Munson said he never saw a QB take as bad a beating as Zier took that night. Rebels pounded him.

Perhaps my favorite written score. The brass and percussion blended together perfectly.

It's a beautiful melody. Saying the "south will rise again" ... take it how you want. There are thousands of Rap songs that talk about killing black people, white people, and police etc... Just pull up and NWA song for example. Also degrading women with derogatory names. Do we ban those or bring those Rap artist to public shame? No -- Nor should we. It's freedom of expression in the USA ... 1st Amendment covers this. Precisely why we built the Constitution, to design a country to allow its people to be free in their lives and words. The 13th Amendment did the right thing by allowing black people in specific, to have those rights too. 1st Amendment: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

This song is an act of forgiveness, an act of defiance, and a mixture of feelings of what it means to be an American. To like only one half of it and hate the other half means you're full of hate for one side. We are ALL Americans, no matter what our past was. Grow up, quit crying, and learn that simple truth.

Brothers, learn Southern History! Lincoln invaded Dixie for REVENUE TAX MONEY for the reason ....to PRESERVE THE UNION TREASURY Lincoln's Presidential Proclamation NO. 81, April 19 1861, five days after the Union evacuation of Ft Sumter. "Whereas an insurrection against the Government of the United States has broken out in the States of South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas, and the laws of the United States *FOR THE COLLECTION OF THE REVENUE* can not be effectually executed therein conformably to that provision of the Constitution *WHICH REQUIRES DUTIES (REVENUE) TO BE UNIFORM THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES;* ......" Lincoln's Presidential Proclamation NO. 82, April 27 1861 (after more Southern States secede due to the Union invasion of Ft Sumter) "Whereas since that date public property of the United States has been seized, *THE COLLECTION OF THE REVENUE OBSTRUCTED,* and,,,,,," Crittenden-Johnson Resolution issued by the US House of Representatives, 25 July, 1861 (four days after the defeat of the invading US Army at Manassas, VA "Bull Run"). "Resolved by the House of Representatives of the Congress of the United States, That the present deplorable civil war has been forced upon the country by the disunionists of the Southern States now in revolt against the constitutional Government and in arms around the capital; that in this national emergency Congress, banishing all feelings of mere passion or resentment, *WILL RECOLLECT ONLY ITS DUTY (REVENUE TAX MONEY) TO THE WHOLE COUNTRY;* that this war is not waged upon our part in any spirit of oppression, nor for any purpose of conquest or subjugation, *NOR PURPOSE OF OVERTHROWING OR INTERFERING WITH THE RIGHTS OR ESTABLISHED "INSTITUTIONS" (such as slavery) OF THOSE STATES,* but to defend and maintain the supremacy of the Constitution and to *PRESERVE THE UNION (TREASURY),* with all the dignity, equality, and rights of the several States unimpaired; and that as soon as these objects are accomplished the war ought to cease. The Confederate States of America (1861-1865) started with an agrarian-based economy that relied heavily on slave-worked plantations for the production of cotton for export to Europe If classed as an independent country, the area of the Confederate States would have ranked as the *FOURTH-RICHEST COUNTRY OF THE WORLD IN 1860."* (Wikipedia: Economy of the Confederate States of America).

Awesome defense.Led the nation led by Dotson,Ware and Jackson at LB and Johnny Dixon at DB. Unfortunately we sucked on offense and became only the second team in history to lead the country in total defense and have a losing record.

If we would have had an average offense, we would have been National contenders. A bad offense would of had us in a bowl. Yet, we were terrible.

I think that is Southerners feel a certain nostalgia when we hear Dixie. But we can’t forget the blood that was spilled and the many black people murdered and enslaved. Don’t get me wrong I love my heritage from the South. Unfortunately, ignorant people now use it as a symbol of hate.

Cassius Ware. Good guy and heck of a linebacker. What a hit and it was legal. Only game I attended that year as a student. Took my future wife to the game. We were right over that play. Etched in my memory. Had Cassius in a speech class at Northwest. Just a great person.

I live (for most of my life, did live in Amory during WWII) less than 3 hrs. from Oxford and am sad to say I have never been to the grove on football saturday. There may still be time. Would love to hear this band play this rousing number. Now that they have Kif as head football coach I would also likely go to the game. (that is if I could get a ticket!)

@Peepis Poopis The Confederate flag is THE symbol of the anti-abolitionists in the South. The slavers and the schmucks they hornswoggled into fighting the US Army with them, using jingoism AND racism to stir the common folks. it is still working, you are an example. There were several "Confederate" flags, the last one was a pure white of surrender. get over it. You lost.
