This song introduces the titular character of Lugnut, in a lawless world he becomes a notable race driver receiving praise, and is elevated by the people to lead them. He directs his followers to accumulate scrap and establishes a “capitol” named Wastehaven, which becomes known as the “Jewel of the Wasteland.” It is also during this time he comes into the knowledge, via strangers from the east, of a fabled nuclear-powered engine named “The Erebus Engine,” said to be an artifact from before the apocalypse and said to be hidden far away somewhere in the canyons.
