Nice
From Norway. A very fast and nice contraprion. Thank you. As I remember, you said that the tarp was aprox 3x3 meters. What is the prefered hight of the pole?
I like it. Thanks.
It's not water tight No floor, you get to much ground run off 🤔
I do something similar, but better for ventilation...and easier to pitch. The pitch to which I am referring is often called the "Holman tent"...and sometimes, the "Half Pyramid". The setup starts the same as yours, but with the single pole at the front EDGE of the tarp, guyed with a single line. The front corners are pegged out to form a triangular doorway. I use that configuration for warmer, non-stormy weather. If stormy, the sides can easily be pulled together, to form a closed wedge. That is, as long as the height of the pole is adjusted low enough to allow it. Takes about two minutes to pitch...and a tree (or other suitable fixed object, like a fence post) can easily substitute for the pole. I use 6 pegs myself (3 along the back edge, 1 at each front corner and 1 for the pole guy line) - but the center peg on the back edge can be deleted, if you wish. Of course, if using a fixed object instead of the pole, another peg can be omitted...making the minimum 4. In that case, the guy line for the pole serves as the guy line to the fixed object.
Thank you for a great video.
Pitched far too high for bad weather.
Could you do this with a rectangular tarp? And with a ridgeline instead, what would be the best order of set up?
Hi, Whats *The Name Brand and Manufacturer for that Camo Tarp?* I Want a *10×10 Waterproof, Lightweight, Durable, Quiet, Stealthy Tarp!* And Easy to roll up a move quickly if Need Be!! Those *Blue Tarps (like at WALMART)* are ok, They just *Heavy an LOUD* While Moving! *_I need one that I can haul around on my Backpack._*
Really good thanks 😊
I have had bad luck with almost all systems using the pin locking mechanism. They rust easy, break, pinch the heck out of the webbing on your hands LOL. I am also skeptical of the twist method, but on just manually stressing the poles, they seem beefy. I am testing AVOFOREST tarp poles and Green Elephant poles. On just a first inspection I am liking the AVOFOREST tarp poles. I will find out in a few days which to keep.
Appreciate the feedback! Keep us posted on investigation!
@@AQWaterproof Update 10-13-24: I am liking the EF! The GE wiggle in the middle a lot more than EF. The thicker, sturdier EF poles are a bit more rigid. Also, there are 2 slots at the tip end what allow you to run cordage/guy lines through them. I tied a loop of rope through each of the two slots to attach guy lines. I use carabiners, the loops allow them to attach to the poles. I tied a third loop going through two slots. I use the third loop to attach to tarp to the poles using carabiners. I have a Unigear 10x13 tarp up in my backyard as a test bed. I wish all poles had threaded metal tips instead of simple texturing. I would prefer screw on caps, caps made with slots for attachment points. So far neither brand has had the poles loosen or slipped down. I am keeping the guy line tension fairly high, but not ridiculously so.
Nice review, good information, thanks.
Thanks for the feedback!
Thanks for showing us. I'll try it out as soon as my ordered tarp arrives. How long should the central pole be?
Happy to help &appreciate the support! As for pole length it's dependant on size of tarp and preferred inside height. If you're unsure on preference you can opt to use a pole that allows for extension, then you can adjust the height based on your set up. Enjoy your new tarp!!
@@AQWaterproof I ordered a 10 x 10 tarp too.
Just an idea, if you used cordage on the door and put the stake on the inside of the tent, you could pull on the cord and secure it to the stake without removing the stake each time. Would be easier.
Love this idea! Thanks for the feedback!
Will you be making more Defender Tarp sizes available in the UK again? I need 4m x 3m... where can I purchase?
We are out of stock in the UK for the moment however feel free to reach out to our sales team for more information. You can access contacts on our website. Best of luck!
My favorite type of videos, no talking just doing.
Happy to hear it! Thanks for the feedback.
Did come some restocks for germany avialability for the 4x3 woodland camo defender? I have the 4,5x4,5 too, but for a single person a bit too big. My 2 cents for improvement (4x3m version): 1. would like to see on long side double numbers of tie outs and 2. an additional middle line which is crossing the other in the middle.
I'm going to say what people might be thinking at the risk of sounding crude. Reminds me of a vagina while giving birth in reverse. As far as your statement goes that it might be "A bumpy ride" . . . you said it, not me.
When you said you were 6 feet tall (7:25) , I got curious about the interior dimensions ... Your Comment/video description says it's a 10' by 10' tarp, so that makes the back 5' and the "hypotenuse" diagonal 10', so then with Pythagoras's a^2 + b^2 = c^2 it should become 5^2 + [inside body length availability]^2 = 10^2, or 25 + b^2 = 100 So then 100-25 = b^2, so 75 = b^2, and the square-root of 75 is 8.66 And that 0.66 decimal of 12inches should translate to about 7.9 inches So, in a theoretical world, that 10' x 10' tarp in this equilateral triangle configuration should have about 8 and a half feet (plus an inch or two) to fit. Which does seem like plenty of space, even if the corners are a bit small to the ground. And I would believe, like you said ~7:37 that 2 people could certainly fit it in an emergency
Appreciate the detail! You should put those equations to the test out in the woods! Happy camping 🌲
One disadvantage is that you cannot see anyone sneaking up to your camp intending harm.
Fair assessment. Although you could probably hear them in that brush.
Specs please. Weight, bulk, and price. Is it any better than a garden trash sack?
The Safari is our lightweight tarp. Weighs in at 1.7lbs. Specs for the 10x10ft featured in this video; FABRIC - 70D nylon, WATERPROOF COATINGS - Silicone and PU, WATERPROOF RATING - 5,000 mm, TIE-OUTS - 3/4" grosgrain webbing, RIDGELINES - Webbing-reinforced. Price point varies on where you're located. Feel free to check it out in our website, linked in the notes.
@@AQWaterproofLooks good I have a tarp from Texas. My tarp is tough enough to use as a ground sheet. I know we can not have everything, would the tarp you demonstrate be tough enough as a ground sheet, when there is no need for a shelter? Very fast to put up, two might manage it in 3 minutes.
@@PeterBren Fair question. The Defender is our heavy weight tarp with a 20,000mm waterproof rating and TPU/DWR coatings. That being said we wouldn't suggest using any of our tarps strictly for ground sheet purposes, they could snag on ground debris. They offer more useful purposes for overhead shelter.
I thought that he would recommend something specific on the market… This video is just simply BS!
Remember to wrap a sock or rag around the top of that pole to avoid puncture or stress to the tarp
Great option! Thanks for the input!
How about a triangular ground sheet? Thanks😊😊😊
I have hot weather use for all of my gear and clothing None of it is effective by the rain, I can handlle bugs, much of my gear can be worn as clothing, it totals 9 lbs for the hammock, packs, clothing, bivy, envelope, netting. I''v got 1.5 lbs of pocket 9mm and spare mag and anoter 1.5 lbs of 22lr conversion unit for it, with a silencer on the 22 barel. With 2 lbs of rations and 6 lbs of wter, water filter, extra wter bag, I can still go protty far and fast and the AR, silencer, ammo, 22 unit are cached near the BOL. A years supply of powdered milk grains, gransola, koolaid, molasses, suger and salt, some empty drums are already cashed at my BOL. , Which is 10 miles away. I'll be brining 100 lbs of nut butters, meds, supplements honey seeds, spices on a mountain biciele, wlking beside of it I'm assured of 6 months of food, probably 9 months, and if the buried nets, strel traps, big game snares, Rotenone fish poisin, bird lime, trotlines, sardine bait, etc, do their job,, along with n body fat, 9 months is likely, then the sprouts, seeds, and spice hve to do their thing A year after shtf, 99% of the population will be dead. there not enough food for anything else to be the case. So the root veggies and peanuts will have to do. until sometng can be worked out (at nigh( to go scrounge whatever else I need.
but you're still on the hard, cold ground, in the flood waters, snakes, bugs, thorns roots, steep slopes, mud, snow , brush ` 1 lb of monofilament gillnet hammock can feed me if need-be ,and gets rid of all of those problems. It can get me 15 ft+ up in the air, out of reach of dog packs and bears, people with clubs, etc. I use an XL size, 1.5 lb reflective tyvek bivy, with a 1/2 lb "envelope ' of heavy duty black plastic around it. The envelope gets its own ridgeline, cause the trapped-air space between the bivy and the envelope is the secret to this combo's abiiity to insulate you from the cold, rain and wind. I also use a couple of 1/2 lb each "cut leaf" type of camo net (amazon) and a couple of their 1/4 lb each full body bugnet "suites. I use a 1 lb buttpack, and a 1.5 lb daypack. I had to add a much wider, stiffer hip belt to the buttpack I fold and roll up the sleep/shelter gear and lash it to the buttpack. The daypack rides on the stuff, making it serve as a pack frame. My spare shorts and t shirt serve as my hip pads. My spare socks serve as my shoulder pads. I can sleep ok at 34F in wind and rain, in just cammies, unlaced shoes, 3 sets of sock liners, gloves, balaclava and shemagh. This is if I wear the bugnet suits and camo nets as longjohns. I can add dry debris and get down to 20F and stay mobile. I can add more dry debris, and sleep ok at 10F but I have to abandon that debris when I move. The military says that at 10F, hostile activity almost stops, especially at night, cause such cold is so hard on batteries. So I can have a fire, long enough to heat rocks or water and put them into my bivy That takes me down to 0F nd if need be, I have a way to use the fire go gain another 10F degrees. I can use the morning sun to gain 20F degrees, in case I had to use eerices, the UCO lantern and its beewaax candle to get me thru the nigtht. I hve a way to dry out wet debris, if needed. If it was colder in my area, I'd add longjohns and a sweater, but they would almost never be used.
if you just barely are off the ground in the hammock, 3 stakes can guy out the head end, supported by your trekking poles and your rifle. Your feet and legs arent that much of a load, so a short tripod of stakes, guyed out to small stakes, suffices to hold you off of the ground. sometimes then, the best you can do is have a bivy that goes around your bipod. I use a reflective tyvek bivy and around it I have a plasti "envelope" the trapped air space between the too is to secret to its insulative ability. A separate ridgeline is needed to keep the bivy away from the envelope. Have your butt be just 3" or so off of the ground and kick dry debris under you, to stop air flow that otherwise will freeze your butt.
And if you leave your razors in there overnight, they will be sharp in the morning.
Communist Commando likes quick set-ups.
I have 2 Defender tarps and I just bought the 15 x 15 defender ! Amazing tarps !! ! !! ! !
Love to hear it!! Thanks for the feedback!
Perfect for emergency use...thanks for the share
looks great but water getting in at the bottom. unless you dig a trench system you will get wet. if ground is already muddy can you say huge fg mess. mud pies on everything. including in your sleeping wrap. possibly do this on top of another tarp? so you are not moving around in mud. a 12X12 cut to fit inside with a outside cleaning step. or maybe if crazy just cut up another 10X10 and build dikes inside. ( velcro?) to keep water out. but cut glued to make a clean step in front of the tent?
Simple setup. Wouldn't it be easier to just pull the "Door" flap inside and off to one side as opposed to having to reach under to the outside. That way you can kick brush over the edges to help with run through.
Most definitely! We encourage you to simplify in whatever way works better for you. It's all about the tweaking. Thanks for the input!
Why didn't you show how to attach the cord to the tree?
Our goal here was to highlight the plow point pitch. A simple taut-line hitch would be helpful if you want to adjust according to height! Hope this helps, happy camping!
Thanks for video. If one were to carry around this tarp and another with a smaller footprint, you could lay the smaller footprint under this one before setup so that once you finish setting up the pyramid, theres a floor instead of just the ground.
Great tip! Thanks for the comment. Happy camping!
I consider Aqua Quest Guide as the best tarp for durability, really waterproof, and easy to carry hiking. I have two 10×10 and a 20×13.
Appreciate the feedback and support! Happy to hear it!!
Fiberglass painter’s pole!!
thanks for sharing!!
I would run a bit of paracord through the loop on the door and then going around the anchor peg at the side so you can just jump in and pull the string to close the door behind you.
great idea! happy camping.
You guys make the absolute BEST tarp out there for the money, weight and durability in my book! I have a defender 10x13 in woodland camo and as of yet I have had NO PROBLEMS with it! It is used 5 or 6 times heavily every year and I bring it home and clean it very well and store it dry and I have to say that I am VERY pleased with the tarp. I hope that I never have to use the lifetime guarantee and I don't think that I will. Thanks again for making such a GREAT PRODUCT! Wayne *Edit for spelling*
WOW! What praise. Thank-you. Appreciate the feedback!
Thank you so much for this!! Your awesome man! The only thing I'm missing from my gear is the sleeping category stuff... Pretty important right?! 😆🤷 For me it's just an affordability issue... This entire configuration for me to buy a 20x20 waterproof tarp, stakes, and pole costs me almost $200... Still pricey but totally making me see the light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to figuring out my sleeping stuff without going into debt.... Thanks again for this!!! So much!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🧿🧿🧿🧿🧿 ... Dare I say that this is even better than any tent that people waste their money on ... My opinion I think this would last longer 😅
It's absolutely an investment. But we think it's a lifelong one. Happy camping. Appreciate the kind words
Ive got their heavy tarp and a half dozen of other brands as well. Its my favorite of all of them except for its weight but still think its worth the extra weight. I forgot the name of the camo pattern I got but its mostly different shades of brown. I like it because in the winter theres very green in the Ozarks and it blends in with the forest pretty well. Its not bad in the summer either since the ground in the woods have a lot of browns because of all the fallen leaves. I bought a camo net the same size as the tarp and together it blends right in.
Happy to hear! Thanks for the feedback!
Hello thanks for set up is there room for 6foot 1 person say out flat and how's the condensation wit limited ventilation
Laying out on the side of the tarp you'll have enough room for a 6'1" person. Max capacity 2. The pitch isn't the most ventilated, but trades that feature for protection. I wouldn't want to spend a winter long weekend under there, but great for an overnight bivy! Thanks!
I've just started using a tarp for camping. I have a 6×5 casualty blanket that I use. I also bring a smaller one to use as a ground sheet. On nice clear nights I just make a lean-to with the smaller tarp. I have a larger true tarp that I haven't used yet.
Love to hear you're tarp camping! Hope you get some inspiration from our set ups for your next adventure
Bigger stuff sacks
@justanotherrat9703 appreciate the feedback
There must be a LOT of tension on that fabric caused by that pole?
But you changed the material, much less durable.......Attention the quality of these tarps are getting worser and worser until today. Look at the bad expierences what Amazon users report. I would never recommand this tarp, also due to massiv delivery problems in Germany
You may have purchased a "knockoff" fake brand because as far as I know, Aquaquest still uses the same durable materials as before. They are very waterproof and durable materials. Did you buy it from Amazon? They sometimes have sellers that buy fake brands and resell them as genuine items. If it is a genuine Aquaquest item that you are having problems with, Aquaquest has a full lifetime warranty and are a great bunch of people who are concerned about their customers. Good luck with your tarp, BK
Rain seeping in around edges?
A simple ground sheet would help with any damp 👍
Pyramids have four sides...?
Is it still good with 2x3 m tarp?
Should be fine if you peg the excess at the back! Happy Camping
Just spent 2.5 hrs trying a bunch of different tarp configurations. Though i havent spent the night in this yet, it is by far the easiest and sturdiest i tried. Im concerned about the ventilation but I guess ill have to try it to find out
Great to hear it! Good luck and let us know how it goes!
