Article XXIV - Withdrawl Cards. They Key to Strengthening Unions!
Most of you shouldn’t even be in the trade.
Merry Christmas brother from local 640
Merry Christmas!!!
Opinions on whether it is worth mentioning Im 3 semesters into mech engineering degree? I unenrolled to look at better school options or an alternative route (electrician). I feel like it may be taken as I can't finish anything when in reality I was looking for a better school for the money/weighing my option.
Police are not and never were working class they're the armed extension of capital. Great video bro.
Those 2 make me furious.
Cops have never been on the right side of labor... unless they want our support.
oh is that like when Biden screwed the 8.000 union workers on the XL pipeline? Or how Obama screwed coal miners all over the US (UMWA) as well as other associated unions like railroaders and truck driver who transported the coal. Manchin was representing his constituents. Obama took a hardcore union state and after screwing the coal miners which hurt the residents turned on the Democratic party. Look at what Biden is doing now by allowing the Chinese to our technology, taking the Russians and the Chinese on a tour of our nuclear weapons facilities. Allowing the Chinese balloon to fly over our most sensitive military installations. Joe Manchin grew up in his day the most union minded state in the US. His family have been Democrats for generations. Biden has done nothing but pork barrel spending since he got into office lining his pockets. Biden promised that if Manchin voted for his Build back better that he would move a manufacturing facility to Northern WV. After he supported the idea Biden double crossed him and moved it to New York. Since Manchin retired, you now have a Republican in the US Senate. Democrats betrayed the state and it's union brothers and sisters, so they in turn gave Joe Manchin a choice vote against Biden or do what is right by them. Obama and Biden screwed one of the most unionized blue collar closed shop union states per population that they could. It caused the raise in services, license plates, state police working overtime without pay to protect its citizens. Screwing the IBEW brothers and sisters who worked at the power plants and still job killing results of the Obama/Biden administration and unionized manufacturing plant closings due to their economic policies in the state. No forgetting to mention the UAW workers near that state losing their jobs in Viginia at a UAW plant. Biden is lining his pockets with his crime family who he is giving pardons out like candy on Halloween.
Completely delusional take.
Facts
NYPD Did Bad 🤬🤬🤬
Cops are here to protect capital and property like we all know. Recent events continue to highlight this. Solidarity Forever. Thank you for continuing to speak out Brother.
I am always appointed by the Democratic Party. Never disappointed. I have learned the hard ways to expect nothing from them and I am never disappointed. Only appointed. Remember how the recent rail almost strike was stopped in its "tracks"? Not disappointed then. Not disappointed now. Just used to being appointed. Organized labor sees them as social warriors and casts them in that role. They are miscast. I see organized labor without political influence and in search of, wandering down one dead end street alley after another. The Democratic Party has only served as a firewall against the ever present threat of fascism. Many see socialism as the opposite of capitalism. Maybe it is truer that it is the opposite of fascism. We used to hear a lot about a group called Antifa, shorthand for anti-fascists. Where do I sign up?
How's that "no OT pay" working out for you that was struck down by a Trump federal judge? I bet you're looking forward to all those union wage jobs and Davis bacon act guarantees being flushed down the toilet too huh?! BTW, both Sinema and Manchine are now independents..... Biden strengthened Union wages and jobs with laws passed. Project 2025 is coming in HOT for that ass now!!! Good luck out there!!
I was waiting on the each one teach one, go out there and reach one tagline boss! This is MAJOR for me. I just applied for the apprenticeship @ Local 26. Waiting for my aptitude test to be scheduled. I’m 33 with a (supportive) wife and two young daughters in the Deep South, and I have a dream of moving my family north and being a master electrician-possibly owning a company. Want a career (not just 3-4 jobs like what I have now) that I enjoy but that can also consistently provide for my family. The revelation of this path seems like an answer to prayers. The vision gets clearer each day I research and study. Just want to say thank you for being a force, a light and an informative resource in the process. Hope our paths cross in the future! Peace ✌🏾 and blessings you and your family!

these videos are super helpful thank you man. I applied to my competitive local a few months ago, took the aptitude test over 2 weeks ago and I'm waiting to hear about my score.
I have been saying "falling down" was bound to happen and the Micheal Douglas' were coming out.
That's such a good movie! What one man can do once they are pushed to a breaking point
Falling Down*
He fails to mention the ibew has an 8% acceptance rate
You is smart, you is kind, you is important.
Absolutely! Just don't eat the pie!
Good Morning Eric! I really needed to hear this today. Thank you for your great content and your motivational message! Keep up the great work!! #uniionminded
This one was for you! Keep working bro, the break through is coming!
Appreciate you, brother. Happy Holidays 🎄
3rd month in. This video is still used by ibew for course material. Figured youd like to know
That's pretty cool thank you!
Just got the call for the 164! Your videos have helped me greatly and will continue to do so in my apprenticeship. Thank you for the advice!
That's amazing! I'm glad my videos have been helpful, it's why I make them. Good luck in your apprenticeship! Work hard at your craft and you will not fail!
@ will do brotha! Thank you
I remember the different ways they have baited the labor vote. Lets start with Taft Hartley. They were going to repeal that in the 50;s and 60;s. Did not happen! then there was the common situs Act in the 70's. Did not happen! For the next two decades, the battle shifted to the individual states with the main focus on "right to work". "Right to work" scored major victories. The advocates made it sound like such a noble cause. Organized labor, continuing to disorganize internally, had a feckless response. Union members began to drift away from the Democrats, realizing it was a party that they were not really invited to. In the next century, Obama attempted to lure labor back with the Employee free Choice Act. (EFCA). It was just bait. Obama shelved it even before he was sworn in, in favor of universal health care, which turned into a defacto handout to private insurance companies, accelerating the privatization of the same. Now comes the PRO act. Unfortunately, our members are not educated enough to the nuance of politics to even reach the discussion level. Many would struggle to explain what the initiala PRO actually stand for. I have seen no robust approach from organized labor to even explain what is in it. Even if there was, I expect it would be met with indifference. With the future of organized labor on the line and statistics indicating that over 70% of voters are in favor of collective bargaining, we hand the government over to Project 2025. And the Project 2025 people were prepared to take it if we did not. I see the Secretary of Labor nominee as a distraction a smokescreen to what is intended, to what is planned. I see Elon Musk as having greater influence than some common Cabinet Department secretary.
The opposite of "can do" is "won't do", rather than "can't" -- as you mentioned, they could have dumped the fillibuster, so it was possible but they lacked the will.
there also is a "dont wanna do" .
Its crazy local 26 is the one im applying to and youtube recommended me this!
That's pretty cool. Good luck !
Where do I get one of those books?
Got a link for you in case you run into some issues. DFR document intriguing part is the warehouse union case where union leaders failed to inform the bargaining units of contractor threats during negotiations. www.aaup.org/NR/rdonlyres/522E23C3-FF7E-443C-A843-AE1527B3EBF8/0/DFR.pdf And as far as schools even apply for bonds and grants for schools
Looking to apply a place in SF; and start my training as an apprentice within the month. I hope I'm able to find a copy and learn the ins and outs of a union!
One trick to peeling the bananas. For pateles, cut it on both hands. Put one slice down the back of the banana. Put it in the microwave for 20 seconds. Only and they're ready to bill comes off like butter
UNIONS are undereducated people kicking and screaming like fucking children because they chose the wrong career. YOURE HOLDING HUMAN PROGRESS HOSTAGE SO YOU CAN PISS AWAY YOUR WAGES ON BIGGER TRUCKS
🤣🤣🤣
So Im just thinking out loud, so dont pay any attention to me, but what Im thinking is if the Supreme Court, already stacked against promoting the general welfare, decides that it is fair and just and as God intended to find the nearly century old NLRB "unconstitutional" aka anti worker contractor friendly, then what does that do to all the decisions for its 90 plus year history. will they all be vacated? Will the entire Taft Hartley Act be ruled unconstitutional. Can you have one without the other? A Taft Hartley that regulates labor without the regulator, the NLRB? Will this remove all of the draconian blockades to concerted activities such as strikes, especially strikes? Could this be the path back to pre 1935? Sounds like a deal to me, with the caveat to C-Suiters, insulated and isolated from the social ravages they impose on the working class, "Be careful what you wish for! With the chains broken, we might just be coming for you."
Chevron deferance doctrine allows courts to overthrow a agencies interpretations.. for them to completely overthrow an agency is wild, the right to work foundation funded by many donors like walmart, are also filing against the NLRB for unconstitutional issues.. I hope the chevron doctrine becomes their capability of reason, and congress along with the senate maintains the agency validity for workers across america.. let the billionaires go to the courts and overturn through a profeasionak process vs abolishing the agency... itll give the courts something to do..
Salary never got ot around here, why it's salary
So salary is still salary... good talk. Quck tip, the people in the IBEW could give a shit about salary. We care about our overtime going into our bank accounts. No taxes on overtime and double time would change my life. I work in the IBEW and I can firmly tell you to fuck off.
KAMALA HARRIS 2028!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That pertains to salaried employess not hourly. If youre not salary why go on about it? Plus thats the deal when you sign up for a salaried position. Everyone knows this.
I bring it up because it was a pro worker rule put in place that took effect this year and now it's gone. Of course people know about salaried positions. Our strength comes from solidarity with the working class not our apathy towards them. We all work for a living.
It will start with salaried employees. Next, it will get to people who get paid hourly. I guess you won't care until it happens to you.
No but it could be better and that’s what the union fights for. The workers are losing rights and that’s what this is about
Alright gun advocates you say you need to protect yourselves from enemies foreign and domestic. There it is... Or do you need them to literally come into your home and pull the spoon from your childs mouth? Do something people! I say a one week general workers strike. Everyone everywhere strikes for a week. Remind the people in power where their power comes from.
@@thatoneguy1477 I agree but in order to achieve that we need to organize the working class. This needs be be a grass roots movement before it can be nationally achieved. A lot of working class people don't have class consciousness.
100 percent!
It's too bad you're not capable of understanding what you read 😂.
Explain it then instead of being pedantic
@@S4LtySn4tch He's basically saying it doesn't affect IBEW or regular workers at all, it affects salaried workers so it has nothing to do with the working class whatsoever
Thanks.
It does indeed effect lower compensated salaried workers. Not the ibew. However an injury to one is an injury to all and how long before the policies begin to impact our own households? All good for differences of opinion but we are looking at objective reality and decisions being made tgat have real consequences and our only rebuttal is "sucks for you, I'm not a salaried employee" we would do better showing solidarity so that when they do come for us we have allies in the struggle.
Biden was the most labir friendly president in some time. Now we'll face a guy who hates unions and workers.
Ask and you shall get. Wait until trump guts the flsa. Raise the ot threshold to 14 days and 30 days for sworn staff.
Our toe is just now dipping into the water and is cold. We can imagine how aggressively they will come for the wage earners. I'm sure when they do some people right here will agree that we make too much money and are hurting the country!
"But Trump says no more tax on overtime!" The people who believe this don't even see how badly they're going to get screwed.
How is this going to affect IBEW workers if it's for lower wage managerial/ administrative work?
That old quote about someone coming for them and then eventually when they came for me nobody was left, let's not let that happen. It affects us because this kind of change will reach us soon.
Workers had overtime protections taken away. Many of our members depend on overtime to stay afloat. This decision may not effect ibew directly but it signals intent of the new administration. We already know how trump feels about paying overtime. It's natural to see our own industry being attacked in the near future. Especially if we accept these decisions with out push back.
Exactly!
@@unionminded7918 also I agree there should be push back, but look at what Biden did to the rail workers. It's not political per say, feels like more of a class thing and people need to fight back no matter what the administration is we need to bond on the fact that we're in the same class. I can meet you there. If I said any ignorant shit here know that it wasn't personal and I don't care about politics per se
We have been in a class war. Both parties bought off since the 90's. Business has slowly purchased our government to the point it no longer responds to the needs of the people. Trust me, we see things very similarly. There is no party for the working class, there's a party that signals to unions but governs for owners. That's the reality.
Oh you're going to make the maga fools angry.. They don't understand that tariffs only work when you have industries going against each other, except we don't have the factories that would benefit this so we the Americans just got our taxes increased. And for the people about to scream I have a union job and it doesn't benefit me, read the business news from the 80's and 90's so you can witness how the laws got changed to allow corporations to break up a company and they no longer have a contract with, so many union brother and sisters lost everything back then and worked until they couldn't..
What does this have to do with what he was talking about? 😂
A nuanced point. I think trump supporters will support anything he says. Until they lives are directly impacted in a negative way and even then I'm not so sure they would fault trump. He is amazing at deflection. The new policies will indeed target the destruction of unions. And drive a race towards the bottom at a much faster pace. Sadly, many will sing happy songs on the way down.
@@unionminded7918 I mean this goes for anybody that follows any political figure really, it's kind of set up to fuck everybody and that's the problem. At least that's where I'm coming from... And that's why I prefer the happy songs singing on the way to our impending doom or at least restructuring which is what I think will actually happen
I don't think so but I see your point. I think FDR was a political figure who dominated politics for 20 plus years and governed for the life we carelessly live today. The new deal was a transformative policy. I'm not saying all politicians are bought, but our government has been. I'd argue there is a handful of politicians federally trying their best to fight against a corrupt government. Bernie Sanders is chief among them.
Smh
Me too.
Video starts at 0:50
So nervous, man. I just bought a dress shirt, tie, and boots just for this. My interview is in two weeks and I am already getting the jitters.
Being nervous is normal. Just try and relax. Keep in mind everyone interviewing you was once where you are standing. Good luck!
Great video, as usual. I spent all day today organizing my coworkers. Our union had a reform slate elected about 3-4 years ago, and we are totally transformed: rank&filers, rather than union staff, do the vast majority of the union work, and we are organized AF! Our sister campus, UC San Francisco, is going out on 2-day strike next week, and if the UC bosses don't come back to the bargaining table... Well, they're gonna find out what Solidarity looks like!
I love that! Great on your union for voting out the status quo! I hope to have the same results here at Local 26. Status quo only serves those in charge and leaves the rest raking the yard!
thanks bro
i want a warehouse tho, dis da plan b
ketssssss gooo im 17 ,18 in july, hopefully houston union accepts me easily, my god am i gonna have to prep
Hey man im 18 years old and I want to join an electrician apprenticeship, how do I get started ??
Start by finding out your local IBEW near you. You can google that and visit that local's website. On their website there will be information about the inside wireman apprenticeship. You can apply through the website. You'll need a couple of things to apply. 1- a highschool diploma or equivalent. 2- a passing grade in algebra I. 3- the application fee. That will get you started on the road to a very rewarding career.
Please do a video on "Grievances"
