Is there any difference betwween this portadilkter's basket (from ali) between IMS basket 26E?
At least the rim is different (fully rounded = higher) which may cause a problem in some Delonghis but it's ok for the Europiccola
@ the results are good and I want the perfect shot, but I can’t decide if it’s needed to upgrade the basket. Will I see a big difference with IMS,what do you think?
I am using dedica ec685 and the size of the portafilter is perfect!
The bottom collar (the one with the adjustment scale) is in two pieces. The inner portion will come out if pushed toward the top. Having it in two parts makes it possible to first install the outer ring with the button and then fit the switch to the inner portion and clip it in place. The micro switch control the hopper. Bypassing it will mean the machine can be operated without the hopper with a risk of an inserted finger in the burrs.
Good intel!
I opened it up to clean it because I didn't use it in for ever. Now it doesn't grind fine anymore but reassembling it was such a hassle, that I'm just considering buying a different grinder 😒
At what finesse does it stop grinding and which washers do you have underneath the grinding cone? It's not the easiest to diss- and reassemble, that's true.
Long shot but I really like the idea of the fitting over the steam wand mod you have but I can’t find it anywhere. Nowadays the recommended method is to zip tie but this mod seems a lot more practical for cleaning purposes
Thanks! You won't find it because I cut back the original part. The good news : you can easily do the same! Remove the entire wand cover, then with a basic iron saw, just saw away the cylinder underneath the steam adjustment ring.
15 grams, 2 cups.
Hi, thanks for the video. I had the same problem. I bought a replacement brew group with the plastic inserts for £20 and fixed. I have a video about here in case its of use to anyone with the same problem. ua-cam.com/video/i5guj-PG_Ok/v-deo.htmlsi=ifFDrLl-_sYeFwoI
I just watched your vid, great work! Had I known earlier, I'd probably still have my Delonghi.
@@mjbartendingthanks. Its a bad design fault so even though I fixed it I'm preparing to have to fix it again in a year! So I think you made a wise decision. Are you happy with your new machine?
@@DunkForbes Yess, I very happy. It's starting to leak now, after a feew years of service but it's clear which seals need replacement. I'll do some Pavoni repairs next year and update. Happy 2025 btw!
good morning what degree of grinding do you use for moka?
Terrible michrophone treatment.
Brutal days
I tried to grind with the lowest grind setting but thr coffee on a non pressurized portafilter came watery.....if I add this washer would I solve this problem? I tried with a manual grider and it grind much finer than this
Then definately add an extra washer.
I hate this machine, assembling it back is a pain in the ass
In that case it's better to only take the top offe for cleaning. After brushing, flip it upside down and tap it to release as much of the inner debris as you can. This should get rid of a fair share of the old cofffee.
It seems to be a great portafilter indeed. The only downside I've noticed: it doesn't have any groove (crease) on the edges to facilitate the removal of the filter basket. Is it more difficult to remove the basket than the original?
I can't compare the two anymore, but on the positive side, this would also make stay in place when you tap the puck out
@@mjbartending Geeze, push it up from the underneath...
Hey there I just saw your video because I also went too far and then was not able to build all back as it was. I found out that you can separate the ring where the pushbutton fits in and the upper part supports the circuit button that allows to grind when all is build. I managed to rebuild the whole thing but just the ring where the grinding level is marked... It is a bit hard to press the ring back to te upper part where the screws are but now it works. I wish I was able to Uploads some pictures here... But yeah I wanted to share my solution without modifying the electronic which I am also considering bc as you mentioned it is not relevant to have a switch for that...
I didn't know! Thanks a lot for sharing
can you share me your book level 2 in spirit? please😊😊😊
what is your email address?
Hallo. After turning off the machine, it maintains its temperature for a few hours. So is it normal that it doesn't cool down?
@@grave3169 where do you measure the temp?
@@mjbartendingI touch the machine by hand. Even after a few hours, the part where the portafilter is located cannot be touched by hand. The top and sides of the machine are still hot.
@@grave3169 The part where you put the porta can stay hot for long, yes. I take care not to accidentally touch my new La Pavoni within the next two hours after brewing.
@@grave3169 That sounds abnormal, I'd have it checked to be sure
Just bought this delonghi naked portafilter from a site called Coffee Nerd. Spent the last week trying to dial it in but still yet to get a good espresso out of it.
Can you give me some parameters? Like dosages, finesse and runtime?
@@mjbartending I use 15/16 grams, a WDT tool and a spring loaded tamper. I don’t have the best grinder so that could be part of the problem but at the finest setting the espresso takes about 45-60 seconds and anything coarser I just get spray and a very quick espresso without crema!🤷🏻♂️
@@buttonman6262 and when you keep the fine grind but reduce the dosage in steps of 0.5 grams?
@@mjbartending I’ve tried reducing the dosage but didn’t make any difference. I can only reduce it so much as I need the basket full enough or my 51mm tamper and puck screen don’t fit into the basket as it’s tapered.
@@buttonman6262 ok, as the porta itself won't change the outcome, see if you can try a different filterbasket. Maybe your current one is flawed

Great video ☕️👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽😎
What is the model number/name of the Rancilio wand you installed?
It's the ECP's own wand, I only sawed off the bottom 3/4ths of the outer sleeve (from the twisting ring down)
@mjbartending thanks this is really useful. I'm based in the UK and I bought a Cm 702 on eBay that came without washers but unfortunately Graef dont ship to the UK anymore. Do you have the dimensions of the washers so I can buy a standard commercial set of washers to replace it? I know they are 0.2, 0.25 and 0.3mm thickness. but what are the internal and external diameters I need? thanks so much!
No worries! Outer ring diameter : 14mm. Inner opening diameter : 7mm
thanks so much!@@mjbartending
Could you please tell me if the Delonghi ECP3420 uses a 51mm portafilter? If so, which model do you advise me and where to buy it?
Ues, 51mm with two ears. Checkout Capfei, they have one that fits and its bottomless.
Thanks. For someone considering going thru wset2, this was quite informative
Got a used one today for 39eur. Tons of coffee residue, calcium and nasty milk frothing on the steam wand. Cleaning took like 2hrs with descaling and cleaning tablets. Got baskets from my dedica, removed the plastic insert and removed the pressurized baskets. It was a bitch to get the non-pressurized basket into the stock portafilter Have a bottomless on order. Removed the panarello and used a ziptie to have the rubber tip fixed in place. That way i can preserve it if i sell it later. No need to cut, just twist it clockwise and it should come right off I love that the portafilter gets heated so well with this machine compared to the dedica where i need to pull mutiple empty shots to get some heat. Everything is manual, which does make it more plasant for me. Steaming power seems better aswell and more consistent. The dedica hat steam pressure that waved up and down, making consistent foam kinda hard IME
Thanks a lot for sharing your experience in detail! I've wondered for a long time how the Dedica differed from the ECP.
in the single shot factory basket i put about 7g coffee - and i find it touches the group head - is that supposed to happen or what am i doing wrong?
Try a finer grind! If that doesn't help, switch to double basket. The single basket can only take really small dosages in a Delonghi. In my la pavoni, a single shot basket can take around 10+ grams at finer grinds before it touches the group head.
I find with the non pressurised the coffee splashes everywhere !
Through the filter or form the group head? IF you get streams trough the filter then it's called 'channelling', which you can prevent/improve by better distribution (see my latest la pavoni update). If it splashes from the side, then there is probably a seal problem. Could be the portafilter's ears aren't thick enough to fully lock the gap between the filter and station closed.
I am just starting my journey, and I love to see how you make use of cheaper devices such as Graef which I also consider for myself. Do you feel you can adjust grind size well? And if you still have a basket, I would be happy to get it! I will text you on insta :)
Hey Chasti, yess I think it is good enough for home use with 51mm machines such as most DeLonghis and Europiccolas. I'll check my DMs, talk you soon.

Hi thank you for video, is this machine can capabble espresso and filter Coffee grind at same stup? How coarse can it grind when it is optimizaed for espresso?
Hi Burak, you can't grind for both at the same time because the number of washers underneath the grind cone ia different. For espresso I'm grinding between #5 and #10, with two 0.2mm washers installed. Fro Aeropress I'm grinding at #14-13 with one 0,2mm washer installed. For V60 I'm grinding at #20 without any washers installed. For Chemex I'm at #25, also without any washers under the grind cone.
Thank you for the video. I have an IMS La Pavoni post-2000 basket (b602th25) which I use in my ROK espresso. Would this fit? I would like to use the basket in a Delonghi machine.

bought the bottomless from ali express, and in terms of taste (so far) I don't see the point of going through the hassle. will experiment more with the coarsens and the amount of coffee I put inside but in general the original (pressurized) is simpler , cleaner and the fake crema is just fine.
If you can get the flavours where they should be, a pressurized filter is good enough for the normal user. What do you mean with cleaner though? Are there grinds coming through the filter?

hello mate, i' not sure how to use aliexpress, not sure how to find a naked portafiltrer that fits in my machine oster BVSTEM6601S 54mm, can you help me ?
Hi Juan! Here's a search query on Ali Express. A few vendors pop up. www.aliexpress.com/w/wholesale-54mm-naked-portafilter.html?catId=0&initiative_id=SB_20230306091842&SearchText=54mm+naked+portafilter&spm=a2g0o.productlist.1000002.0 See that their 54mm portas are aimed at either DeLonghi or Breville, but knowing that at this entry level a lot of machines, like your Oster, are all clones of one similar design, it just might work. Here's someone who tried a generic 54mm in his Breville and it worked. coffee.stackexchange.com/questions/5318/fix-my-breville-coffee-machine-filter-holder In the end there is are risk that it may not fit perfectly, as I had, in the end, with my Ali Express naked porta and my ECP (portas' ears were too thin > leakage), but it's a relatively small investment to try. You'd need a three-eared porta. The ordering on Ali express is the same as on most websites: register with a new account (you link use your google or fb account), pick your vender/product and pay with paypal, credit card or bank card. I use the app, it works well if you silence the push notifications and vendors generally reply pretty quickly.
I do not have the cutting tools. So, I spent the tools money for a new portafilter. 😂
Haha, saved yourself some time there! From which maker?
@@mjbartending I purchased it for approximately $20 from an eBay seller without a specific brand.

Without knowledge of this video, I got the same basket for my DeLonghi, even the same handle, but with 3 metal prongs for the dedica. However, in my case it's not 50 mm, but rather 51,5 as the 51mm tamper which I used before on the pressurised basket sits rather loosely. Highest dose for the basket is 17 grams.
Good intel, perhaps there is a fixed difference between the 2 and 3-prong portas? Thanks for sharing
can you buy non pressurized basket and put it inside the original delonghi portafilter ? does it fit?
The double shot ones: no, unless you cut the top of in plastic insert away (which is very easy). Single shot: perhaps, I can't double check because my Delonghi is gone.
80 c temp is cold. You must achieved higher if your thermostats work. If you leave machine there too should be steam coming from group head for short time. With steam mode, temp should be higher too

3:25 This is only helpful to see what is going on. This is not helpful if you are trying to tamp with the bottom of the basket on a surface and I'm mad at myself for cutting mine so the basket is showing. Leaving a rim around the bottom of the portafilter below the basket also helps keep your machine clean if you have any spraying happening from the bottom of the basket during a shot.
You can use the rim of the higher cut basket for tamping. It's not optimal but with practice, it works fine. In trade you get higher visibility.

There are, among many others, the Krups XP3208 (not too good) , Mr Coffee Dual Shot (good and dirt cheap, if you can find it), Coffee Gator (surprisingly good reviews), Gevi 15bar (160usd, looks like my former delonghi ecp but has a pressure meter) and, if you want to go manual, the Flair Espresso Maker (165usd, not easy for beginners but no mechanical problems, long lasting and a lot of control of your coffee.) In fact, if I had to replace my current la pavoni, I'd get that flair espresso maker.
@@mjbartending thank you very much this will be helpful
Im exploring getting a coffee machine and have noticed un pressurized baskets is the way to go would you say this is a good machine for someone starting out ?
For starting out: it depends. No that it's bad or complicated when using unpressurized baskets, but in order to fit a double shot unpressurized basket, you'll need to grind off some plastic on the inside of the porta filter. If you are willing to and capale of doing that, it could be a good starting point!
@@mjbartending been making coffee poor over method for a while and was looking to experiment with a machine i have found non pressurized open holder for it and a few filter baskets most are doubble shot tho and i got tools to do all that
I tried these baskets with pre ground coffee and tasted awful i dont know if it has to be freshly grinded specifically for those but there was a huge difference in taste.
Compared to the DeLonghi factory (= pressurized baskets)? If yes, at the same grind setting?
Yes but I have a spanish brand coffee machine cecotec cafelizzia haven’t tried it with freshly grinded coffee yet it might be the reason
@@djtrets ah yes, if you switch from pressurized baskets to these ali express ones, you'll need to carefully fine tune your grind to the filter. Also when you switch coffees. Right now I'm calibrating a new HUGH competition basket to my set up, using coffee I've never tried before (a dutch brand Indonesian Java Jampit). I kind of knew at what finesse to start with based on experiene but after serval tries I'm still not there. It's always a discovery.
But you managed it to get good coffee maybe those baskets require freshly grinded coffee. What do you think?
@@djtrets yes, that is a very important requirement. The factory pressurized baskets can force a somehwat good coffee out of pregrind or old coffee, but with 'real' baskets you need fresher grinds. When you do get freshly ground coffee, and calibrate your set up well, the reward will be there in flavour, and more control over the result.
For the milk steam wand modification, what is that item called?
There is no item to buy. You screw off the ring with the letters and saw off the plastic pipe beneath it. Then screw back the ensemble.
@@mjbartending Ah! I have the delonghi ec260bk, vs ecp3420. The new ec260bk model comes without that. I can do the zip tie like most are suggesting. Thank you for the fast response! Love the coffee mods.
