I would recommend researching your industry tree and then building up civilian factories and then military factories. Also, pick Germany next time you will have an easier time controlling ww2. And there are plenty of guides to watch. I think bittersteal would be the best. But try for your first time. You'll be a natural in no time.

Next time pick Germany it has one of the best industries and you can decide when the second world war starts

This was a common problem in older games. The "edge" of an object wasn't what you saw. Sometimes, there's an invisible part that extends farther and would affect things like collision.
