Sounds like a community of mostly conservative Republicans that didn't take too kindly to one Liberal moving in and turning it upside down. I don't know how anyone can spend their later years in life looking to hurt others or get revenge when life is short & meant to be enjoyed doing happy things. You've already moved away physically and should move on mentally.

I too was threatened by local law enforcement, a deputy called me on the phone. Just awful , I didn't do anything except expose a man who was breaking the law

And there is a man who lives there , who is driving around drinking without a driver's license, insurance or anything. I reported and reported, nothing is done .

I do'nt know if you've got "history" with residents ( in general) or indeed with the coppers. But, once they start, they'll never let you be. Had it myself over a fence ( in the end the law bade me shorten it 6 ins. Yep, six bleeding inches. Ya man said it was blocking his "natural light". He had issues with all the neighbors. He ended up with dementia, which is not surprising given the stress he put himself through. It's a sad buisness, usually involving sad people.

Cynthia, it may be too late by now to get corroboration evidence from your neighbors, but with the evidence you have already compiled, you have an obligation as a U.S. citizen to report these dealing to the IRS Intelligence Division (Criminal Investigation Div) in Denver and tell a special agent that you want to file an "Information Item" (the technical term they use) concerning a probable tax fraud situation that should be investigated. If these POA administrators are as corrupt as you claim, it is highly probably they have also filed false tax returns, regardless of whether a corporation or not-for-profit organization. Also give them the names of neighbors who also experienced the same, and include the attorney firm that represents the POA, since there may be some collusion involved between them, which is not uncommon in these type of arrangements you described. If Intelligence Div. accepts the case, they will check for criminal fraud or evasion. If they find nothing to support criminal charges, they will dutifully turn the case over the the Audit Division and they will have a heyday with these people with back taxes and penalties. Do not lose the documents of evidence. This reporting should be done to protect others not so bold as you to stand up to their nefarious ways. BUT... I would report this to IRS only AFTER you sell and move away since the POA could turn even more vindictive if they suspected you did it. Also, in the meantime, Colorado is a "one-party consent state," which means you may legally record both parties in your own phone conversations without anyone else's consent. You may want to consider this if you receive threats on your phone. Making it admissible in police matters and court proceedings. I'm quite surprised that the several spiritual leaders residing in the Crestone area haven't noticed this POA behavior. If it were me experiencing what you claim, I'd be inclined to notify Mrs. Hanne Strong of the Manitou Foundation of this matter, who happens to be a powerful figure in the Crestone area. Also, the Attorney General (Fraud Div) in Denver may also be interested.

I think the federal government should just ban all HOA/POAs from being able to operate considering how many problems they create. But, glad I watched this. Definitely not moving to Crestone.

Thank you for this. I was looking at purchasing property and after having a condo association that was run by very jealous and temperamental people in LA, I never want another HOA. This is such a shame. It sounds like LA pales in comparison to Crestone's personality.

For a seemingly beautiful area, it definitely seems like evil exists there. I recently bought a piece of land there, and after doing more research, I canceled the transaction within my cancellation window. So glad I did.

Literally put a deposit down on a lot, and am absolutely going to back out. This was my fear in thinking of this community.

I don't live in Crestone and I have never visited, though I want to, and I might possibly want to live there. This video is irritating because I'm really sick of beaurocracy, and that lady's voice is ANNOYING! Who would move to such a remote place like Crestone, only to be a victim of a Beaurocratic "system"? Why not let the hippies and free-spirits live the way they want to? Why do the beaurocrats want to CONTROL EVERYBODY, EVERYWHERE? Today, I read in some of the RE land listings that there are NO building codes in Crestone, and this is what I'm looking for because I've always wanted to live in a yurt with a composting toilet. So I call the realtor on the listing I was looking at and he told me that EVERYTHING is changing! He said NO MORE YURTS! He was actually rude, and said, "I'm sorry I can't change the rules to accomodate YOU!"... what a D*ck! I hope he doesn't represent most of the townspeople...?

This is horrifying! No property owner should have to go through this. I am hoping that you have a fresh start with new members who are ethical and not corruptible. I am also hoping that the woman who was so hounded by the POA receive restitution for what she endured.

The Baca POA fees keep going up while the land/property values go down- doesnt make sense. If you buy barren land in Crestone- your property/land taxes make sense- the POA fees do not. I wish an investigative journalist would do an expose on this corrupt POA
