Enjoying Life, Riding my Royal Enfield Hunter motorcycles
Occasional other videos on model boats and railways.
I have been exploring on two wheels since I first learned to ride a bicycle in the 1950s and continue to do so now at a gentle pace, on my Royal Enfield motorcycles.
My riding is for relaxation and I love to find new places. I ride at a pace where I can enjoy the landscape and share this with you.

Into the Dragons Lair - Part Two. A LanesExplorer Story
Hi Peter, I managed to stretch my viewing out to 6 days, nice ride and commentary, thank you 🙂
Oh well done Alex. Yes I wondered if you would be doing that and I'm pleased you found it interesting enough to stay with it as the sort of things I talked about wouldn't have formed part of your past, I'm sure. December's will be rather shorter but takes us into a different part of the Lakes. Hope to see you on that one. Enjoy your spring sunshine as we suffer grey skies and short daylight hours. Cheers. Peter
Wonderful Peter as always 😊. hope your keeping well and enjoying as much riding as is left for this year.. I need to brave it more and get out.. many thanks... happy riding
Hello Mark and so pleased you enjoyed this ride which was certainly special to me. Since then we've had a few similar days but generally it's not been the sort of light that makes you feel like riding has it. However, I'm off out again today as it's at least dry. Take care, Peter
Morning again Peter ! Knowing that I had a new whisky being delivered yesterday, I decided to wait and watch this video last night, combined with an exhaustive bit of whisky tasting ! Both video and whisky were most excellent ! Those fells look absolutely stunning and the whole route is pretty breathtaking. I always wanted to visit the Lake District but didn't get around to doing so before I left the UK for good. Watching your videos reassures me that the area wouldn't have disappointed me, had I made it up there. Stunning natural beauty with the fells and the lakes. That takes some beating. Those were some pretty narrow lanes though, you definitely need to keep your wits about you and hope that the car drivers are driving with sufficient care and safety margin ! Looked a bit iffy in places Peter ! Glad to see you make it through unscathed, excellent work ! I also enjoyed your stories of your clothing, previous mates and Malcolm's tuning efforts. Most enjoyable and great to see the photo ! Thanks too of course for the mention and for adding ABD to the video description 😂 I definitely watch too many channels to be able to mention them all myself, so no harm done ! When I saw "45 minutes" I thought "When on earth am I going to have time to watch that ?". Well, last night as it happens, and the 45 minutes just flew by ! Thank you Peter. A wonderful video ! Much love, Garry & Ruby
Garry you say the loveliest things ❤️. Yes at 45 minutes I think I was pushing folk to the extreme there but I'm so pleased you enjoyed it and were prepared to stick with it. The Lakes are stunning and there are so many lovely little byways to explore. I think that come spring I'll have a few days there in B&B and really ride some of the lanes Marion and I cycled. Pleased to hear your new whisky was all you'd hoped for too 👍 Just waiting for a dual seat for the Hunter to be delivered here - it's a very generous gift from Dave (MM) to allow me to cut it up and create (I hope if all goes well) a single seat out of it. And talking of which I hope Norman's crankcase shield gets replaced easily for you. Blizzard certainly does get used for absolutely everything doesn't it and the great thing is, it's reliable and straightforward - the 450 seems too complex to me with water cooling and a buzzy engine. December's video from me is from another part of the Lakes but is shorter at 15 minutes so will be more palatable for many. And it too is in lovely sunshine. Great to hear from you and thank you for what must now be over 3 years of UA-cam friendship 😊 Love to Ruby and yourself. P
@@Lanes-Explorer5733 Hi Peter. Staying in a Lakes B&B and touring the area for a few days sounds like a wonderful plan. A great idea ! Yes Peter. We've been friends for a good few years now haven't we ? I still think of our early days every time I remove the panniers and see your spacers, made with love and care in your own workshop 🙂 The single seat conversion sounds interesting and no doubt you'll make it work ! I am also looking forward to experiencing Dave's DIY audicator in action, whenever it leaves the prototype phase! Thanks Peter. Garry & Ruby
Morning Peter ! Sorry, did not get around to watching this at the weekend because my own video still isn't finished. Hoping to finish it today and watch this one later, as a sort of reward and come down ( which I am sure it will be ). Have a great Monday, Garry & Ruby
Hello Garry. You've all month so there's no hurry 😂
@@Lanes-Explorer5733 Now that you mention it, it's a fair point 😂 But I need to watch it today really, otherwise I'll get too far behind with everybody else's channels 😇 I'm sure that it will be a relaxing 45 minutes of your dulcet tones Peter, so I'm looking forward to it 👍 I just need to finish tomorrow's (!) video first ! Love from Spain, Garry & Ruby
Good morning Peter. Well that was a marvellous 45 minutes viewing to accompany my breakfast, and thanks so much for the mention. 🙏🏼 whilst watching the video I realised that I’ve not spent anywhere near enough time exploring and getting to know the Lake District. I’ve been in the area on several occasions but it has only been a passing through ride on the way to, and back from, Scotland. Accompanying you and Spitfire on this ride has spurred me on to look at heading up there next year for a few days 🤔 congratulations on the thoroughly deserved growth of your channel, long may it continue 👍🏻😀
Thank you Dave. So pleased you enjoyed our little jaunt around this lake. It's a favourite area for so many and unsurprisingly as there's so much to offer anyone wanting to get away from the honeypots like Bowness, Ambleside and Keswick Town. I'm just so very fortunate to be 5 minutes walk from the sea and just 50 miles from Keswick. We just need some more inspiring weather, though I did get out for a ride this morning at first light. Yes my subscribers are slowly creeping up which is pleasing. Enjoy the rest of your day. Peter
Dave I don't know if you bother looking at your audience figures - I just noticed that my female viewer percentage has rocketed from less than 1% to 19.3% 😳.
Brilliant ride and stories Peter, brought back a few good memories. My first bike was a BSA C12 and I remember the Wal Phillips fuel injectors. A mate bought one recently off ebay and I had to warn him of their bad reputation for self destruction back in the day. Looking forward to next months lane exploration. Cheers Rog
Thanks Rog I was able to read and enjoy it this time. Pleased to hear you remember the Wal Phillips self igniting bike incendiary device - very few of us left that do 🤣. John's BSA C12 was a nice runner once he got it sorted but he was never satisfied and part exchanged it for a Berkeley 3 wheeler with the Villiers engine. Silly boy. 😊
Good afternoon Peter what love chilled ride around the lakes. beautiful scenery and views, them bridges must of took some building enjoyed watching it thank you for sharing 👍🏍️
Hello Derek. Good to hear from you. Hope all's well. Yes it's a lovely area to ride especially on a day like that. Take care. Peter
Absolute bliss to see a glimpse of the summer that was fleeting. Your wandering commentary was wonderful as your wandering of the lanes!
Bless you Dave for your lovely comments. I realise that I'm just one of those riders who whilst not actually liking to ride with others, enjoys sharing what I'm experiencing. This UA-cam allows me to do that. Great to have you along. Our next couple of rides also feature warm sunny rides and lovely northern landscapes plus of course my usual rambling way 😂
Hi Peter, Thanks for the tour and chat both were lovely, Thats not a part of the world I know very well but from what I have seen on the video I will have to acquaint my self a little more. Thanks mate take care and ride safe. Oh nearly forgit to ask how are your eyes doing ?, still giving you trouble ? I do hope not.
Good morning Paul and very pleased to share this part of the Lakes with you. Hope all's well with you. Eyes are fine as long as I don't overdo screen time - that day was just perfect for them, bright without being glaring. Our December ride takes us to another part of the Lakes you may not be familiar with. Hope you can join me. Best wishes. Peter
Good evening Peter, thanks for the mention 👍 That was a very sedate and pleasant ride around Derwentwater, I'm finding it very hard to imagine you ever doing the ton 😄 It's becoming increasingly difficult for youngsters to get into motorcycling and I think as a percentage of the population there are probably fewer bikers now. Once us old remnants from the boom years have moved on there'll be even fewer but hopefully we'll be enjoying our riding for a while yet 😊
Good morning Mick. Ah well I was but 18 - crikey that's a loooong time ago yet seems like yesterday 😳. Yes the roads I used to ride back then were much quieter and in far better condition. Also they had fast, sweeping bends. I don't seem to be riding on those much now, preferring narrow lanes. Not sure why but I suppose it's partly about where I now live and the wish to explore more remote places. Thanks for watching and for sharing your rides with me. Much appreciated. Peter
@@Lanes-Explorer5733 Back in the days when roads were built and maintained as a service to the community rather than for profit. Finding a road with fast sweeping bends that isn't clogged with traffic isn't easy now, riding the quiet back roads and taking in the scenery is much more enjoyable, and thanks to you too for sharing your rides 👍
What a day to be out on a bike in the lakes. Super entertaining video Peter. Loved it.
Thank you Mick. Yes it's been rare this year to have such a perfect day but it just makes you feel so good doesn't it, being out riding and drinking it all in. Loved sharing it with you. Good wishes, Peter
Evening Peter, I watched the video in two parts and very enjoyable it was too 👍I had similar experiences when I came back to biking, I was clueless and took a wee while to find my feet but thankfully not too much money wasted.
Thanks Alex. It's always difficult in the early stages with anything new or in our case, returning isn't it. Had I known about UA-cam (not heard of it up until 4 years ago) I would have been much better informed I think. As you say, hopefully not too much money wasted. Enjoy your quiet (I hope) evening.
Hello Peter, lovely ride as always. Mersia Moto mentioned you and the one of the Pauls had fitted a screen that you had recommended. Was that the Meteor screen that didn't work for you. Talking of waxed cotton, I have a hardly used 35+ y.o Belstaf I started using again. Still waterproof but zero thermal lining. On BSA DBD34s, back in the early 70s an uncle had one under a tarp. He gave the forks away to a friend in need and sold the rest for the price of a meal these days. Thought that white van was going to cause you problems, but he scarpered like a rat out of an aqua duct. Till 1/12 then.
Hello Tim and many thanks for your observations on that white van - yes he definitely nipped off smartly as it's a very difficult exit from that parking area. Yes the screen was indeed the one I didn't get on with. Paul P seems very pleased with it and perhaps he sits a little lower than I I do. The two main problems for me were the extra weight on the steering of the Hunter and the turbulence behind which the microphone picks up. But it was good to give the screen to Paul as a thank you to him. His humour makes me laugh out loud. I actually like wearing my wax cotton jacket out walking as the pockets are large and easy to get to but I have to have a quilted inner to keep warm enough. Today you'd have to pay good money for a DBD 34 unless it was in dire need of restoration and even then... Great to hear from you and see next month. Cheers Tim, Peter
Ayeup Peter, what a delightful ride and chat👍 I remember the Belstaff soggy bottom syndrome, I used a polythene bag in my trousers, what a relief to wear modern armoured yet comfortable gear. I'm going to rake piles of leaves from the garden before it gets dark, bye for now and see you on Dec 1st👍
Happy raking Paul 🌿. Same here as I've two apple and a pear tree plus next door's huge maple to deal with. Good compost materials though - eventually. Pleased you enjoyed both ride and chat and thank you for your kind comments - always good to share my rides and thoughts with you. PS - I'm working on a single seat conversion for both Hurricane and Spitfire. Details probably mid month.
@@Lanes-Explorer5733 What a good idea. The single seat and rack systems on the Classic and Shotgun are genius but it will be tricky on the Hunter with the position of the electrics and various gubbins. Have you been inspired by Glyn Owens?
@paulholmes1682 Not especially Paul though I admire his dedication enormously. I've never wanted to carry a pillion nor ever will do so the rear portion of the dual seat was simply a place to perch my Q bag or strap panniers over. But- and this is where a link with my past comes in - more about that in the 'how to' video - I have long felt it could be better... Dave (MM) donated his unwanted spare dual seat for me to chop about. The original seat base remains and forms a platform upon which my Q bag sits,. Heavy duty velcro holds it firmly in place. The whole arrangement lifts off in one, just as normal, to access toolkit etc. Anyway you'll see the whole thing mid November 🤗
@@Lanes-Explorer5733 Excellent idea and I look forward to seeing it👍
How about TAYM Peter always watch his Monday and Friday mutters plus his other videos of course. Loved the views on your video and your mutterings. Almost forgot That Bloke on a Motorbike you would love him as well ! 😊😊😊
Thank you Peter. Yes I always watch TAYM and TBOAM(Dave gets a credit in the description as does Aussie Biker) but I think most folk who are familiar with my channel also watch TAYM so I didn't mention him this time but I have in other rides. As it was I felt I had run into 'list mode' a bit there 😂. Pleased you enjoyed our ride and well done for sticking with it - it was rather long this one 👍
So very beautiful, this ride and your stories, Peter. A calm refuge in a not always so calm world. Thank you for mentioning my little channel. All the best, Tim.
Thank you Tim, always pleased to mention friends 👍. Yes we do need a haven of peace in our lives from time to time. Happy to provide a small quantity when possible. 🤗
Good afternoon Peter, and thanks for covering lanes and roads that are so special to me, and thanks for the mention, it's much appreciated. So much to talk about in this one. I used to work with the coach at The Castle Inn, Bassenthwaite, for a couple of seasons, and my day off on the Wednesday consisted of a ride on my mountain bike around the Back o' Skiddaw, then down to the canoe-hire centre on Derwentwater, paddle up to Grange for a coffee and sandwich, then cycle back to the hotel. Although not the biggest, Catbells has always been our favourite fell up there, and The Derwentwater Hotel? Well Shearings bought that place with the intention of concentrating on the self-drive market, as they considered it to be impractical to get a coach to it! I, of course, knew differently and eventually they relented, and I got my wish. Sadly, that week I spent there with the coach, was Shearings (and mine) final week of operations, as the dreaded Covid struck, and that effectively was the death-knell of the company, and my coaching career, a career that gave me so much experience, that I'm now putting (hopefully) to good use through my UA-cam channel. All in all a marvellous video Peter, covering an area I/we love so much. Oh yes, the motorcyclist/biker conundrum - I resisted the 'biker' designation for a long time after coming back into bikes, but as my channel title suggests, I eventually gave in...... I know, I'm just weak!! 😅
Hello Martin. Yes I very much had you in mind on this ride knowing that your coach driving and indeed fairly frequent visits mean that you're very familiar with the Lakes. It certainly is a special place and fortunately now I live so relatively close by I can choose to visit at quieter times. And at other times I have the seaside villages. How lucky am I 🤗
Yes Peter, I reckon you're perfectly situated in so many ways. We're in Keswick ourselves in a fortnight for a couple of nights (now it's quietened off a tad!)
@martintraffordmoorlandbike7121 Oh that's great, Martin. Have a great time there. 👍
G’day Peter, lovely ride and bloody great scenery…that’s post card quality 😁👍 Love your stories too Thanks for the mention 😂 just kidding All the best mate👍🍷
Ah ABD, fancy me leaving you off the list of 'Lanes Explorer's Favourites' what was I thinking of. But you're there now 😂 Pleased you enjoyed this absolute epic of a video - anyone who stays to the end deserves a glass of something tasty 🍺. Cheers mate!👍
@ cool, don’t mind if I do 🍺😁
Stunning scenery Peter...and as usual a wonderfully relaxing video.
Thank you for your kind words Jim. So pleased you enjoyed our little run around the Lake District. 😊
Good morning Peter, thank you for sharing your ride, your relaxed commentary and riding on such nice roads and beautiful scenery is always something I look forward to. Best wishes
That's very kind of you to say so Kev and I'm pleased to share our lovely bit of countryside with you. On days like that it's just so good for the soul. Peter
Good evening Peter. A lovely ride as always and really enjoyed the smattering of stories. I do like the way you add your commentaries afterwards. No doubt you enjoy reliving each ride too. Here’s to some nice late summer weather! All the best. Roy.
Hello Roy - you'll be fast asleep there in Auckland now, no doubt. Watching this back again as I did the commentary was so much pleasure as there were things I'd missed at the time by having to concentrate. It's always great to share these rides with you, especially as you've visited the area so hopefully it's a nice reminder for you. Best wishes, Peter
Views keep getting better! How is that possible!?
Ah Chris it's the 'Magic of the Lakes'. Pleased you enjoyed our ride together 🤗
Absolutely wonderful scenery peter really must get up there myself someday. And thanks for the mention 👍
Good morning Nick. Yes it's a fabulous area, especially when it's out of holiday time. So fortunate to live so close. Thanks for watching and commenting ☕☕👍
Young nurses flying about in VW Polo's well if you are going to be knocked off your motorcycle, that's the one you want to do it 😅😅
Isn't it funny in the 60s and 70s? I don't remember any older riders, and now when ever we stop it's always an older rider pulling his or her helmet off 😊
Excellent video Peter 👍👍👍👍👍
@Ainsworth-Rider Good morning James. I too am Lanes-Explorer 😂. Having been knocked off my bicycle and the pain of it I really don't want that again no matter who does it!! Yes we only occasionally hear (they remove their silencers just as we did!) young motorcyclists hereabouts but they're definitely in the minority. Most are our age aren't they. Thanks for your comments. Enjoy Tuesday at the Birch, 👍
Morning Peter 😊 Catbells what a lovely mountain 👍
Good morning Peter. ☕️
A lovely ride, Peter, in to and out of the sunshine. Beautiful country. Why no natter?
Thanks Tim. Yes that's a favourite road and one we ride in the other direction in the new year if my plans work out. No natter because at that point I'd had a few people asking what the Hunter sounded like. Normally I have to reduce the exhaust recorded volume to 40% of the original so I can voice it over. This time we got the full pleasure of the Hunter's exhaust note. 🏍️
Well, the Hunter sounds great. 👍
@FelliniMotorcycle it's as near perfect a bike for me as possible I think. I make minor changes from time to time but can't see getting anything to replace them.
Joyfully enchanting. Brilliant. Thank you, Peter. I read Pirsig many years ago. Later, university and marriage in Bozeman, Montana, I became quite familiar with Cottonwood Canyon and environs. I bought my first motorcycle there in Bozeman, and I still own and ride that cherished bike. Now I shall have to read Rupert Bear.
Ah yes Tim you'll associate strongly with the ethos behind the book, knowing the roads they ride. Still got that bike - wow. From the sound of it you've a fair few bikes and a lot of experience behind you. Hope you enjoy reading the Adventures of Rupert Bear - the stories and especially the illustrations from 1936 to 1960 are the finest.
Three motorbikes. If I had money to properly maintain more bikes, I'd own a Hunter and a BMW R90 as well. I can't bring myself to ever sell them. And now they're promised to my son who already owns two of his own. As for experience, as an old Navy buddy likes to say, "I've been around the block; kicked around the block..." I'm still recovering from the stress an overdeveloped sense of morality brought me over the past twenty years in a job I hated but fought hard to keep. Wife saved my life, kids gave me reason to live, and grandchildren saved my soul. Motorbikes, music, books, mountains, rivers, and the sea are doing the rest. I've never been happier. PS, I ordered a Rupert Bear collection of stories.
@FelliniMotorcycle Tim, your reply was such a pleasure to read. It warms my heart to think that you've never been happier. I hope you enjoy Rupert and perhaps be able to share that pleasure with your grandchildren.
Thank you, Peter.
Enjoying this ride, Peter. Having a little coffee, but no scone today. Promises to be a chilly but sunny day here. I need to get out and stock up on marmalade!
Ah I know cheese scone with marmalade isn't to everyone's taste but I've a feeling you might enjoy it Tim 🤗
Peter, not only do I very much enjoy the finer things, especially cheese scones with marmalade, but my wife even occasionally makes the scones! 😋 Life is good.
A perfect jewel of a video postcard.
Thank you Tim and thanks for reminding me of this ride - it was good to ride it again. November's 'Explorer' video is all edited and uploaded so now I can relax and enjoy yours for the remainder of the month 😊
She's gorgeous, Peter.
Thank you Tim. Unfortunately I she's unlikely to be sailed often as Phil, the owner, prefers her out on display.
Hi Peter, regarding the length of the videos, longer is better from my point of view, because I can watch/listen to them for a few more "short bursts" as I wait for the next installment. This lets the audio part move into the foreground and I can get on with other visual tasks with you burbling (the exhaust noise) away as you travel along the long winding roads. 🙂 Then, when you get to some part I have not seen before, I can stop for a micro-pause, rewind, and enjoy the views. You bring moments of joy and relaxation in an otherwise busy world with your reports on your travels down the many different lanes.
Thank you Alex. This is just so kind of you to write so eloquently of your thoughts about my videos. Because I want these as a record of where I've been for myself and close friends for the future, they will always be longer than some believe to be an acceptable length. So it's truly heartening to know you like them the length they are. By the way I believe you had a fair earth tremor at the top end of South Island a couple of evenings ago. I hope no damage was done, nor injuries sustained. Best wishes, Peter
@@Lanes-Explorer5733 Hi Peter, I completely missed that shake. Most of our buildings are built to resist quite large shakes and keep the occupants safe, a strong timber frame, a lightweight tin roof, and the things that can fall off are designed to fall out and away from the occupants. So what looks like a brick house is just a thin veneer that looks like a solid brick wall. It is surprising how quickly one becomes accustomed to the smaller shakes. The effect tails off with distance and depth. So being close to a shallow shake is the most exciting because you get thrown around. A bit like finding you have just ridden onto a big patch of ice on a sharp corner in the road. Have fun making the next installment.
Evening Peter, and thanks for a lovely run through one of our favourite parts of the world, and has been since the early '70s. The Lake District has sadly become a casualty of its own popularity in recent years in our view, and you definitely waited until the right time of year to visit - so much to be said for autumn colours and quieter roads.
Hello again Martin. Yes since we left Europe and the effects of Covid on people, the Lake District especially has become just too small to accommodate everyone that needs some peace. There are still quiet places to be found outside of normal holiday periods and we know where they are, don't we 🤗. Many thanks for your thoughts and for watching. I just been enjoying Mick (5d traveller) in his delightful part of Scotland. He so deserves a much larger audience.
Great views; love it!
Thank you Chris. When it's as quiet as it was that morning and in the sunshine it was a delight.
Absolutely gorgeous Peter 🥰 That road is like one legendary English landscape painting after the next. Surely that road on a sunny day like this one can hardly be beaten ? Stunning ! I could ride that road again and again, weather permitting of course 🤗 The fifteen minutes or whatever it was simply flew by. This video was well worth the wait and now we can't wait for the next part in a month's time. Thank you Peter. Great ride and commentary ! Love from Spain, Garry & Ruby
Thank you as always for your great comments and yes I agree that road is just one to enjoy over and over. It never fails to please despite having driven it so many times but to ride it was really special. ❤️😘👨🔧
Good morning again Peter. We rode south on this road in August 2014, it was just a long line of cars and I couldn't take my eyes off them to look around much. Since that trip I've only ridden through The Lakes in winter so I enjoyed seeing those views in summer sunshine. Looking forward to the ride around Derwent Water 👍
Good morning (just!) Mick. Yes a long line of cars is usually what you get heading into the Lakes. I was just so fortunate that morning. On the way back I chose to head back across country but that involved avoiding the vast crowds in Bowness. They leave very little room on the road! But that won't be part of the next installment. For that we get to see the little village of Grange in Borrowdale and good views of Derwentwater before heading back to Grasmere (with that short 'A' 😅). I look forward to seeing the results of all this midnight oil burning of yours 🤗 Peter
I've never been around Derwent Water and I'm sure it will be worth the wait. My tired eyes have recovered so you'll get to see the results later today hopefully 😊
@5dTraveller Good news both about eyes and forthcoming 5d (we have yet to hear why '5d' 😅) production 👍👍
Ok, I'll tell you soon I promise 😊 I just need to clear my thoughts and job list a bit more first.
@5dTraveller 🤗
Was motorcycling there last week with my bestie, lovely part if the world!
Wonderful. Yes there's some great roads to ride. I hope the weather was kind to you. Across the bay here in Morecambe it's been very mixed so waterproofs have been thoroughly tested 😂 Many thanks for watching and commenting. Best wishes, Peter
@@Lanes-Explorer5733 Yes the weather was mixed and I discovered only my jacket was worthy of being called Waterproof 😸 Isla
@@islaws4589 Thanks Isla. Yes our North West weather is very testing of wet weather gear 🙄. Today we have sunshine though - rather a rare treat 😅. Peter
Morning Peter (nearly 2am), I'm watching this after a long editing session, We've reached the top of the hill but my eyes have given up so I'll watch the rest later. Bye for now, Mick
Good morning Mick. Take care of those eyes 🤗
Lovely area. Been watching Ian Hughes in the area also using Beeline on his new RE Guerrilla
Thanks DRR. We don't often get perfect days like that up here so we make the most of them 😊. Best wishes, Peter
Good evening Peter. What a perfect ride to join you and Spitfire on. No better way to wind down after a busy day than to experience a ride like this👌🏻Spitfire did indeed make short work of the incline. I think heading out early is a great way to avoid the congestion and there’s nothing quite like having the road to yourself is there. Thoroughly enjoyed this ride and really looking forward to part 2 👍🏻😀
Good evening Dave. Yes we very much enjoyed having you along with us on this and as you say getting out early is by far the better option as long as you're not riding into the sun. As I would have been had I chosen to ride into Yorkshire. Despite the higher gearing there was plenty in reserve for that incline so I'm very pleased with the way the bike runs. It's freeing up nicely just as Jane says hers has. Many thanks for watching and your comments. 😊. Best wishes, Peter
Peter, that is a wonderfully scenic ride. I have done it myself a few times over the years but (as I have said before) it is a long way from North Devon. Have you checked the MPG of your bike as I would think it must be quite good. If I ride my CB500x slow I can get 90+ MPG so you should get at least that figure? I would have thought. Very much looking forward to the next half. Keep safe, Mike.
Hello Mike and yes it's quite a ride from North Devon 😂. I'd have to take country lanes to do it so that's probably a week's ride all on its own. I don't keep a totally accurate fuel log but now I have done about 2800 miles and it's freed up, Spitfire is returning around 100 to 110 miles to a gallon depending on how hilly the routes are. Last week I rode to Coniston along a fast road keeping at about 60 for 10 miles and yet the fuel consumption was very meagre. So yes, well over 90 to a gallon. The cb500x is a very nice looking machine with plenty of smooth power available - you must be well pleased with it. Best wishes Mike and thanks for your comments. Peter
HI Peter Its good to see you again and I hope you're well and your eyes are OK, I've just been to have mine photographed today. Great minds think alike, I did that very route 2 weeks ago on a Saturday to have a look at the market in Keswick but boy o boy was Keswick busy, I did enjoy your video and chat as always. See you next month and take care of yourself.
Oh yes Paul - market day in Keswick- aaaargh!! It seems to be so much busier there now than a few years ago. Pre covid it was really a great place to wander around but now it seems like the world, his wife and their dogs jam the place. I hope the weather was kind to you for your recent holiday up here. Very mixed it's been. Really unpredictable. Eyes now back to normal thanks 😊. See you next month for part two 👍
Absolutely stunning ride Peter. Thank you for sharing it
So pleased you enjoyed it Kev and hope you can join me next month for part two. Best wishes, Peter
3:06 I had my wedding reception in the hotel on the right, back in 1997. BTW I am sat here following you on the map and enjoying the summer sun and you being uncomfortable speaking like a northerner!
Ah this fleeting summer sun... Yes it is really no good me attempting a northern pronunciation is it 😂😂. Thanks Dave. 👍
looks like a long way to me ;; why do the hills seem to have snow on top ?? and i see there are some tossers driving around up there as well ;;
Just a trick of the light I think. 😊
wow ;; quite a climb -- but you were still past by a rep in a white car ;; ha ha ,
Ha ha yes - the days when I would have chased after him and overtaken him are thankfully long past 😂😂
