Last Summer - Movie Review
Переглядів 5 тис.14 днів тому
My thoughts on Last Summer: the latest controversial work from French provocateur Catherine Breillat. A sun-soaked film about a forbidden attraction, marked with an emotional incisiveness only Breillat could pull off. Janus Films will release the film in theatres on June 28. The Beast is a Masterpiece - Movie Review
Переглядів 3,2 тис.Місяць тому
My thoughts on Bertrand Bonello's latest work of genius, The Beast. His dizzying, Lynchian sci-fi odyssey that might just be his magnum opus. The film is currently playing in select theaters via Janus Films. Contact: thefilmloner@gmail.com

La Chimera - Movie Review

My review of Alice Rohrwacher's wondrous new work La Chimera: a film of immense magic and tactility. Released in the U.S. by NEON. Contact: thefilmloner@gmail.com
Here Is The Most BEAUTIFUL Film Of 2024 - Review
Переглядів 2 тис.2 місяці тому
My thoughts on Belgian filmmaker Bas Devos's latest work, Here. A warm, profoundly tender little film of immense power and an early contender for the best film of 2024. Released in the United States earlier this year by Cinema Guild. Contact: thefilmloner@gmail.com
Broker - Movie Review
Переглядів 1,9 тис.Рік тому
My thoughts on Hirokazu Koreeda's stunning new film, Broker. An empathetic, deeply moving family drama that further solidifies Koreeda as a master of the craft. NEON will release the film in the United States later this year.
Paris, 13th District & The Innocents - Reviews
Переглядів 7742 роки тому
This is a quick little video talking about two great films coming out within the next month: Eskil Vogt's The Innocents and Jacques Audiard's Paris, 13th District. Both of these couldn't be more different from one another. But I thought since they're coming out soon and are both worthy of discussion, why not combine my thoughts on them into one video.
The Best Films of SXSW 2022
Переглядів 1,6 тис.2 роки тому
The SXSW Film Festival is BACK and I got the chance to watch a lot of movies. This was my first in-person festival in a long time, which made this year's edition even more of a special experience. But here's a list of ten of my favorites that I saw at SXSW 2022.
After Yang - Movie Review
Переглядів 7312 роки тому
My thoughts on Kogonada's sophomore feature, AFTER YANG. A beautifully rendered, lo-fi spin on the science fiction genre. The film stars Colin Farrell, Jodie-Turner Smith, Justin H. Min, and Malea Emma Tjandrawidjaja. And is shot by Benjamin Loeb. A24 will release it in theaters and on Showtime on March 4.

The Worst Person in the World is the BEST Film of the Year (Review)
thanks for the reccomendations! some of these are my favourites too, but most i dont know (yet!!)
That’s great to hear. I’m glad I was able to introduce you to some (hopefully) new favorites. Thanks for watching!
Brilliant video. Perfect visuals, perfect music, perfect narration.
You’re too kind. Thank you so much!
Great video! Just subscribed!! I’m really liking your channel!
Thanks for giving it a watch!
Lea was luminous, I loved her because the camera loved her and yes The beast is a MASTERPIECE. Looking forward to Texas chainsaw Massacre 4K rerelease tomorrow. Have a good weekend.
Thank you. Very well written
Thanks for watching!
Everyone here should see "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote."
This film and Lea ❤ IS INSANE!!!!!!
Have you seen the original? It’s far superior and worth checking out for a comparison.
I have not. Wanted to check it out before Last Summer but never got around to it.
Wow just discovered this channel! Brilliant insightful stuff, definitely one to watch
Thank you so much!
Just found this channel and watched a couple reviews. I hope you keep making them because they’re interesting to listen to and offer good insights on films many won’t have ever of or won’t be aware are coming out
I appreciate that! My main goal with the channel will always be to discuss the films that don’t get the attention they deserve on this platform, and I’m glad to hear you find them insightful.
@@thefilmloner it’s already given me the drive to actively make plans to see a few films I’d just heard were good and never really planned on seeing so I appreciate that
@zach this channel is going to have a million subs.
Your content is so good, and this movie was excellent- didn’t deserve the mistreatment at Cannes. Just saw North America is finally getting a theatrical release by Film Movement, so that’s good!!
Thank you! Some of those mixed reactions out of Cannes were baffling to me, but I'm glad to see someone else gets it.
Got to see Music at NYFF, first ever Schanelec work for me, enjoyed it & found her so fascinating as an individual - Samsara looks SO good. Sad i’m missing out on it this weekend
just discovered you channel. Its a gold mine
Glad you found it :)
amazing film
Saw it last night. Loved it.
The end of this film had me sobbing, that desire to go back in time is so relatable...and devastatingly so. Something about Italian auteurs has captured my imagination...both Alice Rohrwacher and Elena Ferrante <3
I will now watch both of these films, due to this review. This is also a reminder that everyone here needs to watch "The assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford," because it is a really good film.
Your work is very good and I hope this channel blows up soon!
Ahhh thank you so much! I hope so too :)
Excited to see this
When Samsara first came out I thought it wasn't for me. But this review has changed my mind. Just sorry now I've missed it in the cinema 😢
Excellent list!
This is a great review/essay! I would love to see more of you, you have a very pleasant style. Maybe an advice would be to speak a bit louder when recording the voiceover, and to add some music from time to time.
THE SOPRANOS 2
Excellent review
Thank you for such a great Review. I was absolutely beside myself, out of body with this masterpiece.
Just saw it... This movie SUCCKKKKSSS.
Do you have a Letterboxd account?
Have you seen Le Meraviglie? The movie won Cannes grand prix in 2014
I have not. But judging by how much I adored both Lazzaro Felice and La Chimera, I need to give it a watch ASAP!
Definitely need to check out Afire. Thanks for recommending.
loved World's Fair, can't wait to see TV Glow; Schoenbrun is a necessary voice in horror
A fantastic film. A modern masterpiece.
Wait was the incel bit from an actual true story at 4:58???
The was an incel guy in Santa Barbara who when on a shooting spree and killed 6 in Isla Vista in 2014.
Yes. There are loads of incels :( most high school shooters turn out to be incels.
I watched it last night and found it, though long, quite affecting in an understated way. I am a fan of the short story which seems to have been the inspiration for the film.
Where can I see this movie?
@@devvv7 Probably in a local independent cinema. It seems to be making the rounds.
The tombraider team are flawless and but Miss Havisham is boring
How dare you ! Rossellini shimers with ageless charisma
@@user-lw6qj1yn7h yes i know she has a warm performance but i prefer fast tempo
After all these years i understand about Negrita music video ingio infinita
It feels like I watched a different movie from the way you described this film. LOL. Glad you enjoyed this, but 😅 could not wait for this movie to end. And this is from someone who likes arthouse, slow paced movies.
Excellent review. La Chimera did significantly less than nothing for me personally, but I'm a huge fan of the passion it inspires in others.
I’d say give it another rewatch somewhere down the line as I’ve found Rohrwacher’s films can play a lot better on second viewing for some. Thanks for watching!
Excuse me, do you know which Italian cinema films it refers to? Specific films by Rosellini, Fellini, Antonioni, Pasolini, Visconti; Which would be?
I’d say Rohrwacher draws heavily from Fellini, particularly his stuff like La Strada and Roma. But the broader stylings ooze with Pasolini (w/ his film Accatone) and Rossellini influence.
@@thefilmloner Thank you so much. Honestly, I'm very ignorant and I haven't caught all the allusions he makes to Italian cinema in "La Chimera." The only one I could see clearly was a reference to Fellini's Rome when they find the tomb. Can you see any other references from any other Italian films?
Good review, I think the only I've seen that really captures what the movie is about. I watched it yesterday and I liked how different and original it was in its style. I have a feeling it will stay with me for awhile.
Couldn’t agree more. Thanks for watching!
Awesome list! Have you seen "Tōtem"? It competed for me with "All of Us Strangers" movies that provoked unconsolable crying.
I haven’t yet but have meaning to give it a watch for a while. Thanks for watching!
@@thefilmloner I hope you love it. It's on the Criterion Channel now.
“The defining film of this generation” maybe bc this generation is littered with weirdos.
This movie was dreadful. 30 mins in I wanted to slide down the movies screen with a utility knife to save people. Then I said let me give it another 30 mins. It just never gets good. The best way to describe it would be take a look at a recent photo of the director and that’s what you should expect from this movie.
Bro the movie sucked
why would a photo of the director put you off a movie? 🤔
@@MadailinBurnhope Because he's clearly the type who's lips move when he reads in his head. I'm sure he's not much of a reader, though.
Quality review. Saw it yesterday. Was puzzling but it has stayed with me. Enjoyed your commentary.
Thank you!
OR, its banal, self involved tripe. Your call.
Will give it a whirl, great channel. Have you seen Burning yet? Worth a watch and an essay.
Love Burning! Been impatiently awaiting the next Lee Chang-dong film for far too long. Thanks for watching.
@@thefilmloner Do a video essay on poetry please. That film was incredibly moving and there was an equally moving video essay on it
I like perfect day
thanks love this review
Thanks for watching!
cant wait to see this movie i also love alex g
100 percent agree ... so amazing
i’ve watched this movie in the cinemas and was looking through a good review. and this is the only one i found. so well made. thank you ❤
Much appreciated!
