2023 before 2015 for me. The game was like origin with the two states, prefer that than a QLD derby. It had more tries and fewer mistakes by the star players. Everyone played well in 2023, fewer missed opportunities or failed scoring attempts. It was superior imo with a club going for the first three-peat in 40yrs.

I read somewhere the other day that the NRL has actually dethroned AFL as the most watched sport in Winter. And your right about the Barrissi line, but Cricket is still popular all over Aus and so that is still the National Sport.

I went to a BBL game last year at Marvel Stadium. Capacity is over 50 000. If it wasn't sold out, it had to be damn close.. So, you are wrong about people not going to the BBL anymore....

personal preferences aside the AFL is clearly in a tier above the NRL. The numbers don't lie. More people attend AFL games, more people become members of teams. There is more money being made in the AFL. It's just a better run competition. I'd put AFL as best NRL as good. BBL is middle. It's still easily the biggest summer sport competition, though it's not quite as big as winter sports. NBL middle feels right. A league is clearly bad. No money being made in it. We cannot attract good footballers to compete in this competition, nor can we retain up and coming Australians.
