organizers of this competition. Shame on you. have some pity on these animals. what if someone had to do this to you on your body? These participants are like animals themselves, treating the poor sheep with no sympathy.

Sheep will mind-meld with whoever is shearing them. If you are relaxed and in control, then they will be as well.

I can only imagine how stressed those sheep are being handled like that. Yes its fast, yes its over quick, but I can still imagine the heartbeat of the sheep.

Sheep will actually go pretty limp when you get them on their backs in my experience and will let you do more or less whatever you want. They do get nicked sometimes when being shorn.

@ovmied00 I read that maybe 10-15 years ago from a reputable source. Maybe an elders mag, the NZ shearing mag (this actually could be the one), and yes its prob less than 75% now. But I dont agree with the less merinos the better. Just the less "shit" merinos the better. You can shear 60-70 a run on good merinos no probs in Oz, you just have to find them.

@kysbanga Yeah I know he is good. But Cartwright Terry is better. And Dion Morrell and Keith Wilson are much better. Since 75% of the worlds sheep are merinos, the best merino shearer (Shannnon Warnest is the current world champ on merinos) would technically be the best shearer in the world.

By the way, I have worked with some of the best (not Keith Wilson tho) and a small Kiwi by the name of Ted Perkins is the best I have seen. Shearing 70 a run in big merino ewes near Moulamein and over 600 in Xbred lambs in NZ.

Seriously who told you Gene Mills had the 9 hour record? He is an aussie champion and AFAIK never held an official world record. Gene Mills is a merino shearer, Dion is a Xbred shearer. Considering 75% of the worlds sheep are merino, the best merino shearer would be the best shearer. But, hard to go past David Fagan.

I don't know how he still has a back, i wouldn't be able to stand up after that

@AndyChiuLol If a sheep is comfortable it usually doesn't struggle, they usually only struggle when their not held right and can't breath properly.

@MrMataura hi.. you say kieth wilson is still working? do you have any video of him shearing in shed or any where at comps, or know of anyone that does.. he for me is the man. i saw him when he reached final of golden shears way back and was mesmerised by him. i also would like to get in contact with the legend. but am assuming that he is a very reserved fella.. can you get back to me on this.. i now in scotland.. ta very much.

yeah another master shearer I got to work with was Keith Wilson, he shore an unofficial record at Waititi in mangakino of 871 which totally blows anything else outta the water that I know of. he ws the pacemaker and would push rod and nigel

worked with thse guys back for jeff dorset when him and Nigel were giong for the doubles hrrrm don't miss working with them ... like my cruisy old crew in Taupo now ... easy money and no blown out wrists but alas ... not much lamb shearing... least working with those guys thats all we did was the lambs hehehe
