Bite Alarm Etiquette - keep it off until you're ready
Bite alarms are a really useful tool and make the long wiating time for a bite bareable. However, they can be really noisey so, to keep your fellow anglers happy, follow these simple tips.
1 - Cast out and leave your alarm switched off.
2 - Get everything set up, bobbin, clutch, bait runner tension, etc just the way you want it.
3 - Switch on your alarm and if you really need to, give it one twitch to make sure the alaram is working.
Sit back and wait for that screaming run!

Conger Eel on GoPro Camera, 100ft Deep
Переглядів 3046 років тому
I dropped my camera over the side in 100ft of water and let it hang above some baited hooks. I had no bites so assumed nothing was happening down there, then I checked the footage. That conger eel was far more interested in the camera than the fresh mackerel that was literally drapped over it's head at one point. You think you know what's going on, but you dont...

How do I plumb the depth?
Переглядів 6 тис.6 років тому
Plumbing the depth is an important skill to master to help you become a better angler. It will take around five minutes at the start of your session but it is worth the effort. 1 - Set up your float fishing tackle as normal but add either float rubbers or small shot at the base of the float, not enough to cock the float properly. 2 - Add a plummet to the hook and secure it in place by pushing t...

How can I catch Grayling? The School Of Fish
Переглядів 13 тис.6 років тому
Grayling fishing season is traditionally in the winter months. They are a hard fighting fish that can provide some fantastic sport when nothing else wants to bite. To tackle the Grayling follow these simple tips. 1 - Locate a water with a known record of producing Grayling 2 - Choose a 12/13ft float fishing rod that's suitable for line strength around 5lb 3 - Use a Centrepin Reel, if you can. Family holiday fishing in Ibiza - The School Of Fish
Переглядів 1,2 тис.7 років тому
Fishing on a family holiday can be a great little bonus. It's likely to be warm and you'll probably see a few different fish swimming around. Just because you're on holiday though, don't expect to catch loads of monsters. Sometimes the fishing can be plentiful but small. That said, pack the right equipment and they will provide some excellent sport. Do be aware of local fishing rules though as ...

Small Boats and Blue Sharks - The School Of Fish

On a perfect Bank Holiday Weekend we took a trip out on board "In Ernest" a superb Warrior 165 fishing boat to tackle one of Cornwall's most exciting summer species, the Blue Shark. This visitor to our shores during the summer months was famous during the 70s but is less targetted these days. But with a fast stable modern boat and a perfect weather forecast we made the most of this brilliant sp...
Ho Do I Pre-Bait to Catch More Fish? The School Of Fish
Переглядів 10 тис.7 років тому
If you're fishing with limited time available, pre-baiting can help you get action instantly. Before you go fishing, introduce bait to the area you want to fish. Do this a minimum of 12 hours in advance and ideally every day for several days leading up to your session. Use baits including sweetcorn, pellets, boilies and particles to catch carp, tench, bream and other species on lakes and rivers.

Crucian Carp (Carassius carassius) are one of the the smallest members of the Carp family native to the UK. The British record is 4lb 10oz, so way below it’s King Carp cousin, but tackled with a light balanced set-up, they are a great fighting fish, perfect for the summer months. Catching Crucian Carp Find a water that contains Crucian Carp. You can’t catch what isn’t in front of you. A list of...
How do I catch carp with fly fishing rod? - The School Of Fish
Переглядів 5547 років тому
Fly fishing for Carp was unheard of until quite recently. It’s an exciting way of crossing over the increidble sport of catching any fish on a fly rod, with a really hard fighting fish like the carp. It really only lends itself to sruface fishing for carp when either a large fly imitation like a daddy longlegs is readily taken by carp or, an imitation dog biscuit is used and fished amongst bisc...

How do I catch fish "On the Drop" - The School Of Fish
Переглядів 5817 років тому
Catching fish "On the Drop" simply means, the fish are taking the bait as it drops through the water. It's a great way of catching fish that feed near the surface like Rudd and in the summer months, Carp. To catch on the drop successfully you need to; 1 - Float fish with a waggler float. Put all the shot around the base of the float. 2 - Set the depth to around 2-3ft 3 - Feed around 6 maggots e...

Can you do one with a lure
Very good but what if the fish is too big to hold in your left hand
Great video- thanks. But ditch the music!
Thanks for the info. Out of curiosity how popular is sport fishing in the UK?
Sport fishing in the UK is hugely popular. We're fortunate to have a bgi variety of fishing available from man-made freshwater fisheries to big wild rivers and a big coastline with everything from small whiting to huge blue fin tuna!
were you drunk when😇😂 you made this video
Really?
Long tip needle nose pliers work everytime
At times you need to go thru the gills to get to the hook
Solunar theory is another one.. I think there is something in it but I think it is a trigger for something far further down the food chain at planktonic/microbial level which has a knock-on effect
We found this video really helpful! Thank you 😀 We have a 'quest for a 2lb perch' video coming up, and i think you'll notice some of the advice you gave us. Thanks again! Tight lines
That’s great, thanks for sharing that. Best of luck in your quest, I’ll look out for your video 👍
I caught a small tilapia and the hook was through his mouth and the hook was poking out of his eye socket area, I had such a hard time getting it out, hopefully this can help me next time
Hi, what you’ve described will sometimes happen with small fish. When it happens have a look at the problem, look at where the hook is coming from and, with confidence, reverse the hook back out. It’s easier said than done I know but with experience it will get easier, for you and the fish! Good luck for the future
Lovley fish is crucian ..cheers Chris & Sam
That music was annoying.
What is the name of the tool? Thank you
Hi Helen, it’s a Disgorger. Should cost less than a pound in a tackle shop. Good luck
I’m confident millions of fish are being gutted and sliced.
My husband rips it through the mouth I’m angry
I assume he's not the only one. Yet, seems easier based on my experience to back out the hook than ripping through the the more rigid tissue of the fish's mouth.
I am so glad I came across your video. I will purchase and practice so I can unhook my own fish from now on 😊
Thanks for showing us this is the first UA-cam video where I can actually see what the persons doing
I hope it helps and you’re quickly and confidently removing those hooks safely for you and the fish. Good luck!
Thanks man
Good tip ! Never considered that before, going to start trying it out !
Great video 👍 Would also be interested in a video on best hand positioning on the fish while removing hooks. I never know what to grab 🤷♂️
I was a scaredy cat, people watch me struggling with a fish. And i did not mean to but i killed a fish trying to save is. Thanks for the help.
I’d be lying if I said that the same didn’t happen to me when I started fishing years ago. It was a really unpleasant experience. The important thing is to learn from it. Do some practice, be confident and your catch and release will be successful. Good luck!
@@theschooloffish115 same. We also kep funaral for the fish-
Thank you very much. This video helps me hugely.
Enjoy the fishing Andrew, I’m glad the video helped. All the best and good luck!
Brilliant! Thank you for sharing!! 🙏
Good luck! I hope you get to practice and then use the skills soon 👍
In case of fishing in some distance and not in front of the rod tip, is the same procedure for plumming?Secondly, the right amount of split shots to set the waggler properly are added after the plumming?thanks!
Hi, you’re absolutely right, it’s the same procedure, you just need to have patience while you do it. It’s always time well spent at the start of your session and should hopefully see you catch more fish. Once all sorted you’re right again. Add the correct shot/weight for your float so only the coloured tip is showing and away you go. Good luck!
Fantastic video - clear, concise and welcoming. I only wish more fishing videos were like this!
Thanks for taking the time to share the feedback. I hope to share a few more tips this year. All the best and good luck!
Superb specimen. Good simple rig.
I'm sick of having people take the fish of the hook for me like a scaredy cat, but this summer I'm determined to do it myself
That’s brilliant! Go carefully and you’ll be great. Let me know how you get on please. Good luck!
I’m afraid of catfish lol I don’t want to get finned!

I used to catch these as a kid but the river is all polluted now
Great watched quite a few basic beginner fishing videos that don’t show this helpful information, thank you
Best of luck Phillip. I hope you’re unhooking a whopper very soon 👍
I can remeber probably 15 or so years ago being in Ibiza and those silver fish where in close to the beach by the hotel. I used to take sweetcorn from the restaurant and they would take it from my hand.
Great memories! Thank goodness Chris Yates discovered sweet corn as a fishing bait all those years ago. Good luck and stay safe 👍
Like you said, most of the time their is high pressure around when their is a wind out of the east! Usually when your under high pressure that usually brings no clouds! No Clouds= terrible fishing and Cloudy skies = better fishing!
Hey what happened are you gonna upload again ?
It’s been a full on couple of years. Twins were born, my dad passed away, 2020 is crazy and we just started a house extension. When I can get the computer and editing kit back out then I’ll get back on it. Good luck for now and keep enjoying the fishing 👍
I’m so sorry to hear that take your time and stay safe 👍 and hopefully soon you can get back to fishing 🎣
Can i ask the name of the song? Its really good!
It was a freebie on UA-cam studio. I can’t honestly remember the name of it to begin to find it. Pretty dark, I like it!
I think we just love an old wives take and anything that rhymes.... one thing I can guarantee 100%... You won't catch anything sat at home
Are you using a barbed hook?
Hi Cameron, a disgorger can be used with a barbless or barbed hook. Admittedly you need to take a little more time and care with a barbed hook but it still works. A barbless hook will be easier and there aren’t many circumstances where I would choose a barbed hook in preference to a barbed hook. Good luck!
@@theschooloffish115 thank you
I've bin pre baiting my local lake all this week with corn boilies luncheon meat theres only inbetween 20 to 30 carp in there I'm fishing is Sunday hopefully it may pay off
Very best of luck! It sounds like you’ve got a great plan. I’m always a believer that effort equals. Let us know how you get on. 🤞👍

Hi Great job !! will let you know if our practicing works out !!!
Hi, Could you send me details of where on the Tamar you fished for the Grayling please, I live in Plymouth and have to travel to either the Bristol Avon or The Severn to fulfil my trotting needs, somewhere closer to how would be very useful.
EdBray hi. Have a look at the West Country River Trust’s app called “Fish Pass”. The only beat you can trot with bait is Netherbridge but as you can see it’s great fun. Good luck!
@@theschooloffish115 Many thanks, will do. All the best.
@@theschooloffish115 I have signed up to the Fishpass scheme, but am a little confused as to when I am able to trot maggots. On the Netherbridge info (Beat 21) it has specifics of when you can fish the worm but nothing on float fishing and no mention of other baits other than Fly, Spinning and Worm. It also states that Can you confirm the dates that you can Trot as the info on Fishpass states season from 1st Jan to 31st December.
EdBray hi. I understand your reservations and confusion. I send the guys at WRT a message every year to double check as it’s not explicit nor promoted. For piece of mind, drop them a line (I think the chap’s name is Bruce). You can then fish without worry of a bailiff or another angler challenging you. They did used to be another beat that could be fished as well but sadly the land owner moved on and the rights to fish were lost. All the best 👍
@@theschooloffish115 Thanks for your reply, I have already sent an email to WRT asking for clarification on the issue. I notice from the beat info there are a couple of other beats around the East Cornwall area that allow the use of worms for some periods too. Thanks again, tight lines.
Great video , thanks . New sub too 👍
baz thanks Baz. Best of luck!
Wow thank you very much... This is really helpful...
neil develos best of luck catching and unhooking lots of great fish! 👍
Fishing Brother you are WISE.... I'm in the United States Dallas Texas and I've lived in 4 states it's the same. At least u know how to say "I Don't Know". Heck I don't either. While I can and have caught/catch fish in East Winds it's like you have to bribe other fish with free minnows to lure fish they don't like to take your bait. Quite the negotiating that is. 😂🤣😆 I've learned to just thaw out fillets from the freezer and watch it on TV those days. Happy Holidays from Texas.
Terry Young thanks for sharing your thoughts. I think it's fascinating that this seems to apply all over the place, all over the world in fact! Sounds like we're all old enough and wise enough to know it's gonna be hard going. I still love trying though! Enjoy your holidays and tight lines!
Nice clear instructional video. Love the Attenborough analogy! Beginners would do well to use the heaviest plummet they can so that they can really feel when it's hitting the deck or being lifted off. Always a good idea to push the float up the line by at least 5cm to counter float drifting and chop on the water that would otherwise bounce the hookbait up and down on the bottom.
Some great additional tips. Many thanks Fishwish!
The School Of Fish got another great tip last week from someone we were coaching 2yrs ago who is now a coach himself - he told me a swan shot it better as it doesn’t give a false reading on suspended silt, like a heavy plummet would. I smiled politely as he was absolutely right!
Is this Cornwall park?
Hi, it was a private stretch I was lucky to be a guest on the for the morning. I honestly don't know the name of the stretch/beat. We weren't too far from Trago i guess. All the best
An informative, and very well presented and produced video. Thanks.
