I managed to used some apps and my intuition to find the sweet spot and capture some beautiful images. Hi Richard. I'm glad I found these two videos of yours. I will definitely look into the Wabi Sabi phenomenon. I only work in black and white. I tried to work in color last year but that's not my thing. What is certain is that I'm moving towards Wabi Sabi photography. This is a wonderful way of photographing and at the same time a wonderful philosophy in this time of consumption. Everything can and should be a little less. Beauty can be found in everything, even in the ephemeral. I have already found several websites and photographers that I will follow and study. Also, Sara, because she goes deeper into it to get to the core. Kind regards from the Netherlands, Antoine.

      "Everything can and should be a little less." that is very true. Glad to hear how your journey is going. I worked in black and white for years but am a convert to colour. Hi Antoine, thank you so much for leaving a comment. It is great to connect with others drawn to this kind of beauty. One of the great impetuses for me as a photographer is the challenge to create an image that does some honour to wabi sabi. There are not a lot of photographers working in this area, and so I don't know of some really excellent resources for you. I would be interested to hear where you are at in our own photographic journey. Do you have any photos published online? I have slowly been working on a gallery on Flickr of sabi images: flickr.com/photos/stillinthestream/galleries/72157623025369749/ but I confess that I haven't put enough effort in to it. • @stillinthestream
      @stillinthestream 2 роки тому

      Yes, there are a few reasons to bracket the exposure. It gives you choice when you get home, and you can also combine them for higher dynamic range in the final image. HDR can look fake and off-putting to me, but I would say that I use the technique sparingly on up to half of all the shots I take. With Affinity, the software I use, I find the final merge is often quite bright, so when I'm looking for really rich blacks and other dark colours, I often don't use the HDR process.

It’s not a typical photo you might see in a guidebook, which are a dime-a-dozen. You really made this scene in your own style, which is neat to see. Hey, K. Bosch, thanks for that nice comment. One amateur to another! I feel like I still have so much too learn, but love getting out and sharing the experience. I have done some sharp macro work, and actually that Sony 20mm I use on my filming camera is really good for this kind of thing, lovely bokeh but a decent depth of field and close focus distance. Not a macro lens however. I find that for the nice crisp images my little Olympus 60mm on my EM52 is the king. Stacks automatically and you can set something like 60 images so it comes out really nice and sharp. But my true love is that soft dreamy type of shot you mentioned that relies on light, shapes, and old glass for it's magic. Hope you get out for some forest surprises of your own!

    Have you ever chanterelle picked in Port Alberni? If so, where?

      Hey Madison, yes I have picked chanterelles up the Camron Main and also out along Sterling Arm Road/South Taylor Main.

    Hi Richard! Are you on tiktok yet? I love your content and think there is a huge audience for you on that platform if you're interested in dabbling in short form video.

    Very nice images and approach to photography, I can fully relate. I hope to see more! This is not the first time I get inspired by your content (on the blog and here). P.S. A small suggestion. Since I use headphones it feels a bit odd hearing your voice only on the left channel, it'd be better to have it on both channels (even if mono). It sounds fine otherwise and it's well balanced with the music (unlike with many popular channels). Actually, in a way it is in the spirit of wabi sabi. :)

      Hey Dejan, thanks for watching and for your kind comment. I didn't realize that about the voice being only on one channel. I've been recording it with a Rhode lapel mic on my iphone, and didn't realize it was that way. Really appreciate the heads up! I'll see if I can change the settings in my recorder but probably, like you said, it is mono, and I can just put it on both channels. Anyway, big thanks!
