How to Repair a Bent Recliner Mechanism
Hello, I am looking to repair my broken recliner mechanism. The side push bars are bent outwards. The part is RMT75A05. Do you know where I can get this part please?
How about disconnecting an arm? (In my case the sections are connected to each other via interlocking brackets.)
Thank you so much for useful information.
Glad it helped!
Yes, what method should I try, taking the switch from the non working one and test it on the working one, or is there another method to troubleshoot?
Glad you figured it out and provided feedback to help other diagnose theirs
My chair just stopped functioning. I have re-seated all of the wired connections. Tested another plug, the two button switch when either button is bushed motor turns on and sounds, no motion (switch has integrated USB and that functions as well. Seems to be something internally with Linear Actuator. Any suggestions?
Is there another recliner with a linear actuator you could use in the home to diagnose it?
I was actually able to figure it out. I removed the linear actuator and carefully opened it up and discovered that the motor spindle was not aligned with the jack screw, once I re-aligned it and tightened the set screw at the end it started working again. Thank you for your content, which helped me out
Thank you so much
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching!
Thank you!!!!!
My pleasure
Mines loose and won't close
My Ashley Recliner (4661425) appears to use AT LEAST 2 springs to keep the footrest closed.. but maybe 4... is that possible? One spring went flying off and is 4 5/8" long (11/16 coil diameter, 1 3/4" 20-turn coil body).. but there's another that's broken but looks like the standard 3 1/2" long spring. Despite the mechanical frame looking totally symetric, the 3.5" broken spring is only on the left side! And since the other broken spring that flew out looks different, not sure if the recliner uses 2 sets of each.
I hope this is just a demo of how to finish a piano case because this Cable drop action spinet might be worth $200 if that. Not speculation, I sold one pretty well regulated and in tune for only $250 and they sound like crap. My point is, the job you did far exceeded the cost of the piano. I do admire that you did a good job.
Yeah, it was a memento the customer wanted to keep around for another generation.
Where is your shop? I rather remove it and try to bring headboard to your shop or you can pick it up. I'm in NY, are you located any places Round here?
Unfortunately no, I’m in Texas
Show how locate where springs go on my Ashley recliner they both broke
Oscillating saw - clever. And here I was prying and levering and pulling with pliers, making sure there were no sharps left anywhere. It took HOURS. And there you are - zip zip done. Makes a difference when your time is your money. Good tip.
A life saver
Wonder if the mechanism is universal? The right side of my recliner is bent
They are not universal. There are quite a few different styles
I bought a really nice used chair recliner in two parts. When I went to put the back on only one side slipped in and I couldn't get it to unlatch so I could do it right. Your video took the guesswork out of it and I was able to install it properly- Thank you so much for this instructive video. 77 year old grandma ( lol)!
Glad it helped!
I can use sand for.cats
What psi are you running? I got this blaster and ain’t touching the finish on my table. Bouncing right off at 125 psi
Finishing probably top resilient then. I run Mine around 90. Better o. Antique finishes, not the modern thick painted or stained applications
Thank you so much for the time to educate the uneducated on refinishing. I have a piano I would like to refinish. This gives me more knowledge and a lot more confidence that when I attempt the work I can be successful.
Glad you found it helpful!
Very helpful thanks !
Glad it helped!
My headboard has the wood around the faux leather. I would love to see one where you took the leather part away from the wood frame. Thanks!
If you scoot your headboard away from the wall, you should cease several dozen screws going in from the backside into the panel. It’s as easy as removing them usually and it should pop right off.
If I push on the bar in the middle doesn’t go back all the way so my foot rest won’t stay closed
I have a manual Lane recliner that recently had its footrest break, when fully extended, the handle over rotates and it falls to the floor. Not finding anything obvious underneath to tighten, have any insight? Happy to share pictures. Thanks!
Feel free to send pics to the323concept@yahoo.com
How much to do that
Probably in the $500 range
Ty I fixed my dad’s electric lay z boy. Cheers
Glad it helped!
How do I take my headboard apart
Remove the screws on the backside
Please forgive my ignorance, but does this just plug into a wall or does this have to be connected to air compressor?
These are powered by air compressors, great question.
@ Thank you!!!
cher
Thanks for watching
Thank you! How do you call the thing where the leg screws in? Loved your video , short and sweet ❤
Insert nut
Intro way too long!
15 seconds…chill out 😂
@ no u chill
2:57 I have these on my Lindyn Sectional and desperately need to move the pieces. Can you explain how I can do this?
What’s the problem you’re having when trying to remove them?
Thank you, super enlightening! 👏🏻
Glad it helped !
What compressor power did you use
I usually have mine set to around 90psi
My recliner stopped working. It has usb ports also that are not working any ideas on the issue?
The power box also has a faint green light flashing.
@shelleyblack7942 you have a short somewhere. I’d recommend unplugging one thing at a time and see if the light on the box goes to a solid green. Start with the switch
I have obtained a Gibson power headrest dual motor power lift chair (model 121841) that has no remote to operate it. How do I go about getting a remote for it? Badcock (where it was purchased) has closed their stores so that is not an option in to obtaining one from them? Any advice.
Maybe try life easy supply
Oh, thank a lot.
You're welcome
Shoo! Great to know that one of my client’s well-loved chairs just had a loose cable. Thank you for this!
Glad it helped!
What hose adapter did you use. Are you still using it and recommend it?
I don’t quite remember which one they gave me, sorry! I’m not a huge fan of the customer service dr ekasand. I’d recommend surfpro instead
This was awful he didn't show the connection with the pins or explain how many pins there are. Or if an adjustment needs done to reduce from 5 pins to 4 pins. Guys tell the whole story .
All of that information is irrelevant to what I am aiming to show in this video, which is how to replace an identical switch when you already have it. They are almost always 5 Pin. I’ve never heard of a reduction to four pins.
You are a life saver! Tysm for this video!!!! Can you please tell me where you got the leather from and the exact color? For years, I've been dealing with this torn-up California king headboard. The bed is sentimental to me, but it's in such bad shape that it's stressing me out peeling and shedding for so long. Also, I don't have staples on my headboard, but it has round circular metal pieces embedded into the edges of the leather. Do you know if those are removable, and if I could use a staple remover to remove them as well?
I get my vinyl from Charlotte fabrics. I can’t quite remember which one it was. It has been a while and they have a lot to choose from. I could probably help a little more on your other question if you send me photos of your situation
@ that would be amazing thank you! is there an email I could send photos to?
Thank you! Helped a bunch!
Glad it helped!
Great video. I had the exact same mechanism on mine
Cool, thanks
I just want to restore the shine. I can’t take the whole thing apart
Thank you! My $3,000 disability chair has been quite a letdown. I struggle with chronic back and pelvic pain, and what I really need is something soft-like sitting on a cloud. Unfortunately, I feel more like I'm perched on a hail storm instead. The chair is covered in zippers. But now, I feel ready to tackle this project and transform it into the comfy, fluffy cloud I’ve been dreaming of. 💕
Glad it was helpful for you
As an approximation, a single stage air compressors puts out about 3CFM/HP. If you need 12 CFM at 90PSI you have to stop blasting if the compressor tank pressure drops below 90PSI. A one horsepower compressor could only blast 25% (or less) of the time. If you have a 5hp compressor it might supply 12CFM (but a 7.5HP is probably more real) and you could blast continuously. Smaller horsepower means lots of stop & starts to fill up the tank. A bigger tank means a longer blasting time between stop start. Keep an eye on the pressure gauge (above 90PSI) or just don't blast while the compressor is running. A trade off for needing less CFM is to reduce the nozzle size. That would get less work done but reduce wait times as the compressor cycles. Anybody want to offer additions or corrections to this?
Great information! Thank you
This is the most helpful explanation I’ve found. Thank you from a rookie looking for a simple explanation.
How to add filling to just the footrest?
There usually a zipper underneath. I’d flip it over and check
I have a manual reclining sofa that we've had for years made by Palliser Furniture. When you manually push back to recline it tends to go back in the forward position. Is there a mechanism (bolt/nut) that I can tighten to cure this problem? Thanks
I have seen a few models that have a wing nut to adjust the spring tension. Otherwise, potentially replacing the springs or adjusting where they’re connected could alleviate the pressure
Great video. Most fundamental problem with recliners these days is lack of lubrication. AS SOON AS you buy one immediately oil ALL the pivoting and moving parts otherwise those rivets bore and wear wider holes in adjoining parts. Friction is the worst for of recliners. Another problem is plastic bushings, rollers always seem to wear out. Not much you can do about that. And of course tighten all loose bolts and screws.
Good advice thanks!
Looks good!
Thank you!
Thank you for this. I'm using sandpaper at the moment and was looking for a better way.
You’re welcome. hopefully this helps
Thank you sir! Youve helped me out. Sending love from Papua New Guinea 🇵🇬 ❤
