Oh, my tbr stack needs this too! I should definitely be more intentional with the books I buy.....but one of my fav things to do is find local bookstore while on vacation. A cover will catch my attention, and the I think I need to get it because what if I forget the title, or can't find it again!

A great way to get books is to go to tag sales and places like goodwill, savers, big lots (overstock stores, or marsden (a chain that sells inexpensive materials).

For 5th graders, I might have a 1 boy and 1 girl at a time policy. Some girls start their time of the month in 5th grade. I know I did. It would be awful if they had an accident waiting for a boy who's taking his time in the hall. Just a suggestion.

I have seen from other teachers on TPT: MUSTard- work they have to do; Ketchup-work they need to finish,; and PICKles-work/ activities they may choose.

Often times, I would use a section of my board to write the students' assignments in sequence, like a To Do List. Then they could always look at it, especially if they didn't listen to me the first time. That way, you're helping them to be successful and manage their time. Also, it teaches them accountability and responsibility for their own learning.,

When I taught 5th grade, I had " I Survived..." books. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Because of Winn-Dixie, Bridge to Terabithia, Wonder, Esperanza Rising( That was part of our curriculum.,), Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, Hatchet , Call of the Wild, Number the Stars. They may also like Harry Potter. I hope that helps.
