This is really blowing up if I’m catching this through Reddit. Got a few suggestions for you, though. You badly need to learn to use Tonfa combos, if you’re going to use them at all. Try to reroll a few slots of your armor for healing on Amrita gain, then grab the buff talisman that creates Amrita when you damage enemies. Then go for the demon dance combo attacks and don’t even worry about enemy attacks that don’t grab or instant kill. Demon Dance on Tonfas uses your Ki pulse to chain repeated spinning strikes from both hands and tears through ki on enemies. Low stance heavy->light attack move also has a straight downwards hit from above that breaks enemy horns for easy extra ki damage. You play Nioh like a PvE high difficulty fighting game. Your overall combo should be Heavy->light->ki pulse->demon dance->ki pulse->demon dance etc until the enemy ki breaks. There are Barrier Talismans available on the Onmyo grid. Those will boost your ki refresh speed. All of these facets together create a tonfa setup on Nioh 2. In fact, it’s identical to Nioh 1’s Tonfas. Each weapon plays differently. For example, Odachi skills swap your stance automatically by hitting heavy to light or vice versa. Every weapon is dramatically different, so I’m only really giving a suggestion for Tonfas. Nioh is definitely not a souls game. Maybe the first one was similar, but Nioh 2 is truly its own thing. You can’t play them the same way. Your ki recovery speed should be much higher because Tonfas scale with Courage, the ki recovery speed stat. The only stats that matter are Magic, Ninjutsu, your weapon scaling stat and whatever stats your armor requires, only barely to the minimum requirement. Your set bonus matters, but that’s also the foundation of your build at end game. If you’re using whatever light armor has the highest defense, you’re missing out on much stronger % increases from the set bonus. Worst case, craft new armor for your chosen set to keep the level high. Oh, and I’m pretty sure Tonfas have 2 types. Spiked Tonfas do more actual damage, while blunt ones do more ki damage. I’d recommend having a higher DPS weapon on hand, use Tonfas to break ki, then punish with your bladed or spiked weapon.
I forgot to mention! There’s a skill on Tonfas that makes a much stronger instant punishing tool. It’s bound to block+light attack. I don’t recall its name, but it’s a spinning attack that does insane ki damage. And! You can attach modifiers to your abilities on the skill customization screen. Any skill on the samurai or Yokai grids that has “applies X to certain active skills” has to be equipped to that skill. So there’s Yokai grid abilities like vermin strike that apply paralysis to the active skill you equip it to. Put that on demon dance and you can straight up paralyze enemies for free kills.
thanks for the info, yeah i am using armor like that, whatever light with high defense, i am now getting used to chaning stances mid battle, no idea if tonfas or any weapon have two types very interesting to note my playstyle focuses on parry, block, burst counter and overall reactive and counter style overall i am not a completionist or hardcore or pro player, just a casual player even though i did managed to beat demons souls solo in ps3 i have played both nioh games in ps4 but never to completion due to dofficulty but as i have improved overall as a player i hope to finish the remaster edition of these games
@@QueenofClonmelwhat is the reroll on armor you mentioned earlier? no idea if you can forge armor with skills you want like more ki or something
@@GradientKnight so there’s a few options at the blacksmith. They usually unlock through story or quest progress, sometimes in side quests. You can actually swap the special effects on your armor pieces, but it costs Umbrite pieces. Higher difficulties allow you to choose from a larger list. You will also be able to change the armor values by either increasing the weight or increases the stat requirements.
@@QueenofClonmeli see
That was literally me for the first 50 hours. 100 hours later and bro you got the tonfas these Babys want to do combos man
I recommend you switch to low stance, or mid-stance, if you plan to keep using rolls like dark-souls. Low stance is quick dash, mid stance is for blocking and medium-speed dash, high stance has a slow roll. Rolls are not good in this game. If you use a feral guardian spirit, you can use r1 + circle as a very good "dash" it lets you cheese alot of boss moves. Also, this game is way more complex than dark souls, everything unlocks at dream of the nioh and things should start clicking for you.
Ik low stance seems logical for dodging
Bro, for the love of god, if you're going to use tonfas, then you need to ki pulse.
i see, tonfa seems to be working well against bosses in particular for me
a Win is Win congrats. However, you will be punished more and more as you progress if you don't engage with stances, Ki pulse, confusion, yokai abilities, and the various tools the game gives you to be more aggressive, in this game you are also the Boss.
Still learning about magic and ninjutsu, burst counter and yokai abilities are the only thing i utilize playing the game but changing guardians or stances mid battle is kinda tricky to get used to
It is tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it, you have a pretty much endless supply of Ki, plus there are buffs for switching stances. You REALLY need Ki at all times to play with Tonfas. I would recommend the Dojo, you can fight various types of enemies, human and Yokai alike, and will never die. It helped me learn a lot. Keep it up! You still beat the boss, even if you weren't playing OPTIMALLY. I think the commenters mean well, but forget what it's like to be new to a game like Nioh. It took me sticking with Switchglaive for a long time to now get to stance switching consistently and always having a full Ki bar.
Bro this game isn't dark souls you don't need to roll through everything, also learn to ki pulse
I like defending parrying but for some attacks it seems dodging is safest option
@GradientKnight blocking is pretty good, especially with tonfa, but high stance roll is not the best. Also, middle stance is best for blocking, while low stance is best for mobility and quick attacks. High stance has slow attacks and long rolls but the strongest moves. You should practice comboing your moves into different stances with ki pulse flux to increase your damage output and prevent yourself from running out of ki. Tonfa in particular are great for inflicting a boat load of ki damage, staggering your enemies over and over again. One more thing, this game rewards aggresive play way more than dark souls. Get in your opponents face, whittle down their ki, and beat the crap out of them. You've already got the right idea with the yokai moves and burst counters, but I'd bet you didn't know you could cancel animations with them. Try using a yokai ability or the brute counter during the recovery of an attack or while you're winded to get back into the fight.
@@luckybutler6566i see so using cancel you get some ki recovered while you are out of it
@@GradientKnight exactly, you can use your yokai abilities while you're staggered to avoid getting punished
not only does it work to cancel moves, but if u use feral spirit, it works to evade boss moves. so you can stay in high stance have a very reliable "evade." Also as someone already said, learn what "flux" is and how to do it. Practice being in low stance so you understand the quickness of it.@@GradientKnight
