Not what you expected, or is it?
Conformity is the act of matching attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors to group norms, politics or being like-minded. Norms are implicit, specific rules, guidance shared by a group of individuals, that guide their interactions with others. People often choose to conform to society rather than to pursue personal desires - because it is often easier to follow the path others have made already, rather than forging a new one. Thus, conformity is sometimes a product of group communication. This tendency to conform occurs in small groups and/or in society as a whole and may result from subtle unconscious influences (predisposed state of mind), or from direct and overt social pressure. Conformity can occur in the presence of others, or when an individual is alone. For example, people tend to follow social norms when eating or when watching television, even if alone.

    Even if you like superhero/marvel movies I still don't know how you can think Thor Ragnorok is good. It makes a mockery of iconic characters like Loki, Thor and Odin, the action is terrible as per for marvel movies and it looks horrendous. The whole appeal of Marvel is that it brings together iconic and different characters on screen, Marvel fails so often because it forgets to write these completely different characters differently everyone speaks like a Tony Stark because iron man was a success, all out-of-space characters are wacky and annoying because guardians was a success and don't get me started on guys constantly breaking the 4th wall because Deadpool was a success. Every trailer / soundtrack is just some retro song because they did that in guardians and that was a success and there must always be a big overly grey cgi battle at the end before a pointless after the credits scene acting as a trailer for the next film. At what point does this not become incredibly boring and in no way a good representation of the superhero genre. Thor ragnorok is closer to parody than a genuine superhero/action blockbuster movie that's worth anyones time. The video acknowledges that it's fine to not take the subject matter seriously and brought up Indiana jones as a really good example of when action movies incorporate humour - I could even bring up the original Pirates of the Caribbean that are also clearly funny and not to be taken too seriously but they still convey a sense of craft that shows an obvious love towards the world it's telling a story in and the characters in that world. The problem "marvel fans" have with criticism directed towards marvel is that they act so defensive - asking stuff like well if you don't like superhero/comic movies why would you watch them when the real thing you should be asking is that why are people who clearly don't like or care about marvel/comic book movies, as can be shown by shit like Thor ragnorok and Thor love and thunder, making these films.

    My problem with Thor: Ragnarok is the sheer incompetence that took place with the juxtaposition that was vomited out onto the studio floor. The problem is that it was two really good movies forced into one disjointed mess. You had the story of Hela, goddess of death, rising up to take her throne as the rightful ruler of Asgard. A genocidal warmongering psychopath they could have easily rivaled any of the major universal villains of the MCU. She alone could have very likely been the next Avengers level threat. And then you also have the buddy cop story of Hulk and Thor trying to escape a sociopathic madman who seemingly wants to enslave them. That could have been a good story if he then followed them to Earth and began his games there as well. You had two really intriguing stories that could have stood on their own legs and pushed the MCU and it terrifying that captivating position. And instead, you cut out the best of both stories and blended the rest into an undigestible mess.

      @lotsaspaghetticodejr.6488 6 днів тому

      @@immakingamovie1379 No, I don't believe it was. It's just that it felt like it could have been two movies. Imagine if in the middle of Civil War, they put a secondary plot where Tony and Peter go out to get ice cream and an arc reactor gets stolen so now you have an hour and a half comedy of them trying to get it back. That's what Ragnarok feels like to me. I recall an interview before where the director gave the cast their scripts and about 80% of it was ad-libbed. So that's another problem; It wasn't even being "directed"

  • @ReasonablySkeptic

    I didn't care for Thor Ragnarök because it didn't take itself serious *AT ALL!* I like a good humorous movie, but the superhero genre is such a ridiculous premise that if it does not take it self *A LITTLE* serious it just feels like a parody, or joke. TOO serious and it also falls flat, because for some the reason, the _"real life"_ medium is less forgiving than the _"cartoon"_ medium. I felt the marvel 2008-2016 movies did a great job at that. With the exception of *_Thor: The Dark World (2013)_* and *_Iron Man 3 (2013)_* which proving my point took themselves WAY too serious. And now they're all made like the director's ashamed to be part of it, and is just doing it on a "dare" or "ironically". And they make these non-stop joke movies. But those are just my thoughts.

      @@julilu423 I asked him why he would even watch a superhero movie if he doesn't like superhero's because he said he doesn't like superhero's, he replied because of the director.personaly I don't think that's a good reason to watch a superhero movie and makes one supremely unqualified to judge such a movie considering he thinks the very idea of superheroes pathetic. I enjoyed it for what it was a chapter in a larger story and in the MCU as in the comics space is a silly place and I'm cool with that. At the end of the day it's popcorn and fun it's also formulaic but they have written their own rules which makes it unique. Almost all storytelling is formulaic that's what makes something successful.

    • @julilu423
      @julilu423 6 днів тому

      @@ZacSheehy But this is the problem I was alluding to with the general MCU fanbase - like why should anyone tell someone whether they should or shouldn't watch a movie - it's a movie of course he can watch it and have an opinion on it. I would understand calling his opinion biased if the film in question was actually good but you yourself have literally just admitted that it wasn't anything special and was very formulaic. I don't really care how successful it was I understand why they'd made the decisions they did and why the film exists - it obviously paid off from a financial perspective. What I don't understand is the idea that this is in anyway a defence of the MCU or Thor Ragnarok, like it's still a bad film it just had good PR running off an incredibly popular franchise at it's peak. I get that it's part of a larger story but it's still bad like call me Martin Scorsese but if the whole point of watching a movie is to understand where those characters are by the next one then it's not really a movie - it's just oversized TV. And even if we are saying that it is a movie which I think is fair, it should still be criticised, the self-contained story here is still crap, it also betrays it's source material and even it's previous movies to a shocking level, in particular it's characters. I guess I just don't understand why I see so many people defend this film because they like other stuff which is sort of associated with it and I find that attitude to film strange. I also struggle to understand why genuine fans of the comic books would claim to enjoy this when it completely butchers it's source material reducing it to parody.

    I think the whole subject of finished films after an actor, specifically the main actor, has passed is really interesting to me. I wonder if there’s any more you could investigate for videos like this. I knew of the Game of Death “situation” from a young age and remember that one really bad shot with Lee’s head stuck on the actor’s shoulder. But I don’t recall ever watching it. I presume there’s been fan edits since that do a much better job, what with modern technology. Flat out refuse to watch the Pink Panther films after the death of Sellers; though I did see the first Steve Martin film and I didn’t hate it as much as the critics. I’ve been told to avoid the sequel at all costs though.

      I didn't mind either the Steven Martin Pink Panther or the Alan Arkin inspector clouseau film, though I agree Sellers is the GOAT in those film. I am sure there lots of other films that finished after the lead actors death, imaginarium of doctor parnassus was pretty good. Heath Ledger died during that.

    Fantastic piece of UA-cam work would be good if you could re-edit without the annoying VHS Fuzz in the background and increase the frame size of the VHS footage to at least 14:9 😊😊

    Thanks for this its brought back great memories, I had no idea I still knew the words to "wakey wakey wakey rise and shine" 😂 Alot of vids on here about bb are slagging it off and mocking its juvenile male centric humour. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who misses the days when the world was more sane and happy.

    Orson Welles also wrote The Other Side of the Wind with his lover/mistress Oja Kodar, it has some great writing and dialogue. The movie is IMO very good Welles movie, maybe not his absolute best but pretty high up there. I'll have to disagree with Simon Callow on Mr. Arkadin, it's not one of this stronger movies but it is not disaster or complete failure as he claims, there is some great ideas on it and the longest version of it is pretty good movie. It's just a shame that Welles never got to finish editing it before the producers took it from his hands. Not sure how reliable Callow really is when it comes to Welles, IIRC he for example said during some interview on Criterion's Othello blu-ray that Filming Othello was never finished, when in fact it was and it was shown in 1978 Berlin Film Festival and aired on West German TV who produced it.
