Truly enjoy the video of Rockford. I lived there for 50 years. Most of these years i worked in the fastener industry. Rockford Illinois was known as the Fastener capital of the world. Not the screw city. What you are doing is very important. Please change from screw to fastener. Not just because it sounds better but because we made more than just screws. Elco Industry was one of the largest companies. Also so was Rockford Fastener and screw co. Thankyou for your time

Rockford has such a great history. Sad to hear about its troubles. Was born and raised there. Parents went to East , sister went to Guilford, I went to RCES. I remember the big industry ( most gone now). And the beautiful farms. Fishing on the Rock as a kid. Nihan& Martin, Piggly Wiggly, Aldeen Park . Lots of friends and relatives buried there. Miss the way it was, at least I have the memories. I STILL LOVE YA Rockford. ❤

We had only been there an hour and half of that was waiting for our order. We thoughT we could sit down and relax to a good evening meal with a couple of new friends. BUT NOT the FAT ANGRY MANAGER CALLED US RUDE FOR ENJOYING A TABLE WE BASICALLY PAID FOR. She could not appreciate the value we brought to CLEMENTINES RESTAURANT.

Tons of free stuff for young people that do not like to go to work at minimum wage jobs.. free meals at the Salvation Army daily.. free news papers at the U of M @ Univerity Square.. grocery carts full of food at Channel One.. free internet access and computer access at Mayo Clinic, St. Marys Hospital or the Public Library. Free coffee and doughnuts or cookies at a local church downtown, daily. Why should I go to work when I can eat and commute the city for free!?!? It's a wonderful city for homeless people too.

My husband has books that were translated from German to English, by one, Father Downing, a Priest at Loras College. His Uncle was also a very influential priest there, as well. It includes everything that transpired here in Dubuque from the mid 1800's to about the 1930's. Of course, the Catholics settled here and had a major influence, but with the river, it brought a lot of labor - and a lot of transient labor, to be sure. I am going to dive into these books and, hopefully, have more information. And, yes, there used to be a lot of bars in Dubuque but please remember that we had at least two major factories here. John Deere and The Dubuque Pack - that even, until this day, had rival Credit Unions (lol). Thes e men wanted a bar to sit in after work, or even sometimes on their lunch break, to have a beer and play a quick game of Eucker. A lot of those bars have gone away. We do have some crime here but nothing out of the ordinary. It is a wonderful city, with scenic parks and trails, a rich history and YES, a fantastic turkey and dressing sandwich. It's more diverse now than it has ever been. Our hospitals are wonderful. Our public and private education system is top notch and is an excellent place to raise a family.

It is much deeper and has nearly double the amount of water . It is 5,670 cubic mi where Lake Superior is just 2,900 cubic mi. Just so you know

The headgear shown on Julien Dubuque in so many pictures is a romanticism derived from pictures based on the thought of a “French fur trader” without much actual basis on the man himself. The old jail museum in Dubuque has an entire exhibition on more historically accurate history of Julien, including a reconstruction of his face from his skull (and he looks a lot more like what you’d expect a businessman of the time to have looked like)
