Great question. I think for the Ally X in particular it's gonna weigh down pretty hard, but if you use a longer USBC charge cable and just leave the Battery on the table you're golden I bet. All day battery life let's goooooo

@tag_of_frank Hi, thanks for your question! As long as you have a supported phone and you use the SpaceWalker app, you can use Ambient mode! There will be some limited options IIRC, like you won't be able able set the exact size, just push the picture to a corner.

Thanks for the great question. When I tested it, you could connect the Nreals using the VITURE adapter, but you do lose some functionality like "Ambient mode", basically it'll just treat the Nreal/Xreals like another display but not recognize them as AR glasses, so I think the SBS 3D may or may not work.

So the second one which is a wireless transmitter doesn't use USB-C, so you need to use a hub/dock or an adapter forbthe HDMI transmitter and a handheld (the adapter would connect USBC and HDMI together like these amzn.to/4eX3JaW Or amzn.to/4eX7i0O I hope this makes sense, sorry I can try again to clarify further.

This is a really great question. I'd say if you need a handheld now, it's hard to go wrong since as I mentioned you could use it as a tablet later down the line when it's not capable of running the latest games. That said, though I have no actual information, I'm speculating that Lenovo will tease something new at CES (in January) and I'd expect a Go successor sometime in Spring or Summer, maybe even earlier if we're lucky. What do you plan to play on it?

You're right, but today it's $500! And, the ROG Ally X at time of filming was $799, but it's also on sale now too!

@gamers-generation It's 500 on sale. The Ally X is $700. I would rather get the regular Ally Z1 extreme for 350 or 400. The 24Gb of ram kind of future proofs the ally x, though, at least a little bit.

I wouldn't say there's no support, Legion Space does get updates. There's no question taht the Ally X's additional RAM results in improvements (though not in all scenarios). And I did also mention the other use cases for me (using it like a tablet, and docking it to play multiplayer). The battery for sure is the biggest improvement, but since I have a Legion Go, this is the reason why I'm not running out to get an Ally X. Thanks for your comments.

Uh... you can plug them into a phone or any other USB-C dp ALT mode capable device... doesn't ahve to be an ROG Ally... nomsayin.

Apologies but maybe I missed something. The limitation to charge and watch at the same time is because phones don't have more than one port. If you have a Legion Go or an ROG Ally X for instance, you don't need a dongle. But at the same time if you get a mobile dock you can also "charge and play" at the same time, I will agree though that it's not cheap... Thanks for your comment!

@gamers-generation thanks for the reply! So i mean, it would be nice if their was a way to charge the dock while using it. I normally plug in my steamdeck when i game. Since i can't do that with the dock natively, it means i only have a certain amount of time to play. Now, in fairness, the dock does hold a reasonable amount of power, so it's not like im struggling to enjoy my game. Major first world problem, if im honest lol.

@RangerxTurbo great question. IMO you have basically the best mainstream handheld PC right now so unless you really need a backup, it's not really needed. Especially since Bazzite is available on the Ally X AFAIK as well. For SD2, though it's been confirmed, it's probably going to be another year at least unless Valve surprises us. At that point though you could argue then you could turn your Ally X into a backup.

Valve has stated there will not be a steamdeck 2 for awhile. They are waiting until they can make massive upgrades in nearly every aspect of the device. The change to oled so quickly after launch was more so a "hotfix" for the hardware, and they stated that wont be the norm. If you want one you are likely waiting 2-3 years before a steamdeck 2.

@@stephenmisener1659 If I had to speculate, I'd say you're likely correct in the timeframe of 2-3 years, that said, Strix Point does seem to have a significant enough advantage now over RDNA 2 and the Sephiroth/Aerith APUs so maybe it's more like just one more generation?

@MrKlawUK I agree. The Viture glasses do have a type of side view called "ambient mode" built into their phone app, so if assume that the Xreals could so rhe same. You're rigut also that it's mostly foe 3D0F while mirroring your display. Supposedly there are apps now vs. When I made thisreview, but I haven't checked recently.

@@gamers-generation I bought a beam pro during the amazon sale to try out. Its amazing so far. The tracking makes a huge difference - you can have a big screen and no eye strain looking around the edges as your head naturally moves. And the pro seems so far to support most of the apps I'd be using on my phone anyway. Only miss is connecting external devices but steam deck has a plugin to do somethign similar. I really hope the next Air glasses have the image adjusting built in so you can do body anchor mode with any USB-C input

Not sure if you're just meme'ing on me, but technically if your games are ripped to an ISO format, you can mount them and install them that way, but YMMV on the compatibility because of Linux. Thanks for your comment!

If you don't mind sharing the "faults" you're referring to, I'd love to know, we all make mistakes after all. As you said, it really is a big difference, it's just hard for me to say "professionally" speaking that it's worth a switch over, since it is a hassle and a decent chunk of change to do so, not that it isn't worth it though. Hi there, thanks for your comment and sorry for the late response. I understand the frustration with the Z1E battery on the Ally. That said, personally, I'd just go one of two routes, installing Bazzite/SteamOS as an alternative and then if that still doesn't result in the battery life I want, I'd supplement with a power bank. I think that way you can basically get a Steam Deck experience with more performance, since it really is much more console like than Windows. What do you think you'll do?
