Traveler Lyre Sound Clip
I wanted to make a smaller size lyre with decent sound, and the traveler fits the bill. I am testing out a new lyre for sound quality and getting ready to ship it to its new owner.

A New Lyre "Old Sycamore"
Переглядів 5066 місяців тому
A new lovely sounding lyre that I made with a pickup for small amps. I made the lyre from Sycamore, Cedar, and Poplar woods with walnut stain. The small Honeytone amp does a wonderful job of making the instrument much louder, buts it loud enough for around the campfire without the amp as well.

It's pronounced kan-teh-leh
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!! I was having an existential crisis because my lyre refuses to stay in tune even for a few minutes without playing.
It's pronounced kan-teh-leh

This channel is awesome! I play quite a few instruments, but i want to play more. Especially older instruments. The problem is, they are so expensive, especially where i am from. I have been wanting to start making my own instruments for a while, as i love wood working, but i suppose I am a little afraid of failure. But your channel has inspired me to finally gonfor it. Thank you!
It sounds really nice
Beautiful!
Sounds nice. Thanks for sharing.
You lyre looks fantastic. Thanks for showing your steps. A lot of work! Great job!
Thank You :)
I recall reading in my router safety manual something to the effect of ”do not operate near genitalia” :) Nice work, I appreciate you sharing
I just started building my first lyre yesterday. I found this video today. My lyre is literally the same as this one. It is 8 inches across, 2 inches deep. Only 3 inches longer. And i even built it the same way. I never saw anyone build it this way until now.
I also built my lyre recently.
these are so great, thank for making these videos! i'm going to have to make one at some point!
😕 P r o m o s m
And whats your point? The channel is connect to my Etsy shop and I show off the instruments I make. Do I promote my instruments? yes. I hope your having a wonderful day and happy, life is short.
How does it sound?
I. Would. Like. To. Hear the sound. 😊 Ld
Looks good!
I don´t know what greek lyre You had in mind (there are several different types) But the result reminds me more of some scandinavien lyres, like the Hylestad Lyre, or the Mo Lyre.
I was thinking of the greek turtle shell lyres
Nice sharing 👍

Yes, my floating bridge makes tuning fun ! You have to tune all the strings before all the others.
Nice to share a coffee break with you. Thanks

What are you using for that decorative sound hole thingy!? It looks neat!
Those are meant to be laser cut out earrings.
Wow, this is a lovely look at your shop, and this instrument. Very peaceful vib, with the wind chimes in the background🎶🌎☮❤ I'm thinking of making a bow like that, for some of my ethnic stringed instruments. Thanks for the inspiration, and sharing this video. Best wishes for your continued success and fun, with music instrument making.

Nice job . Probably get more views if you edit down the time
Na verdade tocou o que absolutamente? O instrumento não tem escala? Na verdade como a de tocar?
Sorry you'll have to translate 1.) tune your instrument properly --> as perfect as you can 2.) if horse hair detunes too quickly, make dacron b50 strings or buy violin/viola 3.) DON'T use markings --> you'll end up training your ears wrong. Strings bend and stretch constantly over time, rendering markings unreliable 4.) take your tuner out and find ONE note on the melody string. Not more. You don't want to overwhelm yourself in the beginning 5.) practice good/slow/steady 90° bow strokes 6.) practice that note and strokes combined 7.) find a spot you can remember with your hand by feeling it --> a good position let's you find notes easier 8.) scales work like on any other instrument If it sounds "wrong" adjust your fingers until it doesn't. Retune often! Notes come like the alphabet. CDEFGAB with their half notes inbetween. So if your strings are tuned for example to d A D --> d is the melody string then you can use the notes D E F G for minor and D E F# G for major for example D E F G // D E F# G 0 2 3 5 // 0 2 4 5 minor major 0 - open string // 2 - index finger // 3 - middle finger // 4 - ringfinger // 5 pinky finger
