Nice custom piece. The brushed look works good on that piece, or polish it up nice with steel wool. Maybe I would try finishing it off with painting the grooves to match the color of the bike and re-sand and then clear coat. But if there are large variances in the width or spacing of the lines, the paint will make it obvious. Admittingly, just a clear coat with no painted grooves would look great too.

Yes make a bung or get a nut to thread it in to and chuck that up. Or use soft jaws

Are you using a gas lense collet body on that tig torch ? That might help.

I just finished my degree in precision machining and am current working as a CNC lathe machinist. When manual machining though, to align your tool post with a little more ease with the square is to put the lower portion of the square on your tool post and then the end perpendicular to it against the flat face of the chuck. The chuck tends to be more reliable in terms of repeatability with squareness. If you really care, you should invest in dial test indicators to more accurately indicate your tool post in. Also no more than 3x the diameter of sickout is much more relied on for manual machining. Can get away with a lot more with the right setup.
