2cm Ion Beam vs Atlas Superlaser | Space Engineers
English: (German below)
In this video we compare the Ion Beam (2cm Beam System) with and witout the Long Range Barrel to the Atlas Superlaser. The damage of the Ion Beam strongly depends on the power stored in Ion Capacitor. This Beam has four big and one small Ion Capacitors.
The Long range Barrel for the Ion Beam increases it's range but decreases it's Area of Effect (AoE) so the Beam deals less damage in total.
The stuttering was introduced by drops in the Sim Speed.
Deutsch:

How to build a powerful Ion Beam (2cm Beam System) | Space Engineers
Переглядів 1,6 тис.5 років тому
This video is more about what you should do if you are considering to build a Beam System. We do not exactly explain where you have to place the blocks, instead we explain which blocks should be used and which not to make the Beam System as powerful as possible.

    I do have to point out that it says in the tooltip UI help of the ion beam's long range barrel that it doubles the range and decreases AOE radius by 85 percent. This is no way decreases the damage.

    Did some testing, Atlas can do damage to shields (Which I hope you lads have those) and the Ion Beam literally does 0 damage to shields The Ion beam just guts ships tho, better than the Atlas

  • @mackenziebeeney3764
    @mackenziebeeney3764 3 роки тому

    I noticed the second and third shot definetly missed the mark, hitting the belly instead of the side, while the first shot definitely cut the ship which amplified the damage as it fell. Was that from a wide area damage or did the first hit some vulnerable structural element that the other two missed? I have to say the sheer scale of the ion weapons would make their use prohibitive, limited to ultra heavy base weapons or spinal mounts. While the atlas laser can easily be fitted onto a turret, or a bank of lasers, if you can support the power need.

    • @HalIOfFamer
      @HalIOfFamer 2 роки тому

      Area damage of the ion beam cut it in half before it started falling. Imo if the 1st ion beam had the damage of the last shot it could be kinda considered balanced, with all the cost and space the whole system takes. I wish someone updated 2cm to current version, it would be grand!

      No, ion is a discontinued 2cm beam system mod. There is a fan base but nobody knows how to update it, I have contacted the original mod creator and he said he is done with modding space engineers. Someone should really update this mod

    • @VestedUTuber
      @VestedUTuber 2 роки тому

      Even if it was updated, I don't think 2CM would really work with weaponcore outside of just being able to work with the weaponcore damage type system, as it's not a self-contained weapon but rather a set of component blocks that can be used to build a complex weapon system.

    • @HalIOfFamer
      @HalIOfFamer 2 роки тому

      @@VestedUTuber it kind of does work with weapon core, as in, it will do damage to blocks. Just might be really inconsistent and unstable. Well it worked last time I used it with weapon core before the 1st warfare update, so it might be completely broken now.

      @VestedUTuber 2 роки тому

      @@HalIOfFamer "it kind of does work with weapon core, as in, it will do damage to blocks. Just might be really inconsistent and unstable. " That's basically the extent of its compatibility. Weaponcore expects either single-piece weapon/weapon turrets or custom turrets with single-piece weapons, 2CM uses multiple components to direct a beam and the initial emitter may not necessarily line up with the final firing direction or even be on the same grid.

    • @HalIOfFamer
      @HalIOfFamer 2 роки тому

      @@VestedUTuber no, every block is considered a custom turret. So it should be possible to update it. You make a turret out of blocks yes, but the way they work is just like fixed turrets. Of you ace a laser or an Ion emiter it will do really low damage over time, and with the lens blocks you just change the direction of the laser.

    Thank you for this thorough test! However the Atlas' big advantage compared to the particle beams, apart from simplicitly is its pulse duration. Its effect is least well demonstrated with a static point target vs. raking fire swept along a ship to efficiently distribute damage across the whole vessel.

    • @joshuaconner5887
      @joshuaconner5887 4 роки тому

      But imagine puting the 2cm beam system on a turret using mouse aimed turret scripts. Also the 2cm beam system can be as strong or as weak as you'd like it. You could build the strongest laser you want and spread massive damage across a target, reducing it to literally nothing. I did this with my BFG 10000 build and reduced a UNSC Infinity to many small pieces.

      Ion cannon are just laser loop on the repeating cycle until u released it, if the problem was mounting on ship's why not make a ion super cannon and just mount a ship on it. U may think this funny but in halo human ship's are just big rail guns on thrusters and steriods.

    Given that the Ion beam is enormous, it would best be used in planetary installations in defensive turrets, in ships such a turret would be impractical, so if you want to incorporate it into a ship it's going to have to be fixed-firing down the long axis of the ship. The ship itself is going to have to be colossal.
