The Scoopes Homestead
United States
Приєднався 20 бер 2021
We are an urban family currently living in the low desert of Arizona. Our goal is to eventually begin homesteading (in another state), and share the experience of our journey and possibly help educate not only ourselves but the community as well! We will be covering gardening, food preservation, and various other topics that if your are in a limited space, you can begin doing as well!

Great videos. Learned a lot on your channel.
Thank you!
Nice review, great product!
Thank you!
First time planting these and blessed with unbelievable success!! Huge and soooo tasty!! Zone 6a
@@kimklicker1886 Awesome! I do hope to have a good turnout this round (9b). I have eaten one before and really liked it.
My Brandywine tomatoes plant only produced 2 tomatoes this season. It grew tons of leaves but did not produce much fruit even after trimmings.
We're starting round two of tomatoes here in AZ. Some are Brandywine. Hopefully we'll have a better turnout this time. I have several starts.
We grew Brandywine this year not knowing their reputation. We got a lot, but we had to pick them when they were still green on top because the bloom end was ripe and spliting. So cutting them up to juice we actually only got the benefit of about 1/2 of a tomato. I may try just a couple plants next year to baby and see what I get.
Pretty much the same here. I will most likely give it another try next season. This up coming season we're doing San Marzano tomatoes. Actually getting the seed trays going now (benefits of living in AZ... two growing seasons)
What was the ingredient right before the brown sugar? I can't make out what he's saying. Sounds like cons...or coz...lol what the hell is it!?
It's pecans. I never even noticed it sounded like that before lol!
@@TheScoopesHomestead oh, so it's crushed up Pecans, right? I thought it was graham crackers, but it didn't sound like that. Lol thx!
I’m gonna make a sugar free version… sound good though!!
That sounds good! My sister is diabetic (type 1) and would appreciate a sugar free version. You'll have to come back and let us know how it turned out!
Super cool they reached out to you like that
@@justchuiED They have been really awesome
Looks like a great product!
Thanks for sharing the video. It's so cool.
Thank you!
thank you
Thank you!
What size are the grow bags and how many cucumbers did you put in each? 👀
The grow bags are 30-gallon bags. I use these from Amazon: amzn.to/3xMevRZ and have been for a few years now. Each bag had two plants. They did very well!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MONICA!!🎉😊❤
She says "Thank you!"
Miss you guys....hope to see you soon!! ❤️
Hope to see you soon!
Hello dear friend, where are you? Why did you leave the video? You were doing well
Good morning! Been working on some new content. Haven't left, just been busy and had to take a step back. Hope you have been doing well!
4th year trying and this year looks like success. I hope I finally get to taste one. Usually the plants look sick since their very prone to disease.
We ended up no trying them this round. I may give it another try for this fall's garden. We're going to be growing San Marzano tomatoes! If your Brandywine do well let us know!
I'm from White Hall, Arkansas. I now live outside of Boston. The Yankees in my office "loved" the Arkansas Possum Pie I made. 😅
Awesome! It's a big hit here everytime I make it. I have an aunt that lives in Pine Bluff. I'm not from that part of the state (from about 2 1/2 hours or so north ) but I know where White Hall is!
I did that last year. Oh god i fed the whole neighborhood (whether they wanted it or not 😂)
That's awesome! I have a ton of cherry tomatoes I've brought into work to give out (work in warehousing)
This is pretty cool keep it up
Thank you!
I love starting tomatoes from cuttings. Free food!
Heck yeah. It's also a great way to stager your garden too. As you're harvesting tomatoes, the clones are growing!
Yes sir free plants. Still chilly here but soon!!! Thanks for the video.
Thank you!
If you're interested in pruning the suckers, here's the link to that video! ua-cam.com/video/myRws0-gKHk/v-deo.html
I recently started not to prune the suckers off my plants. I’m letting them grow until they get flowers and that’s when I prune them off. Along with the flowers. I want to take a walk to the community garden and prune the plants that I can.
I go back and forth with it. These suckers were specifically pruned with cloning in mind. Community gardens would be great. I don't know of any in our area.
it isn't that chaotic
I have seen worse. But compared to one that's being grown up a trellis and pruned, it's pretty chaotic.
You must live in Arizona. That's how they grow out there
I do live in AZ!
Keep up the work buddy!
Thank you!
Thank you and don't forget to subscribe!
I love to keep my tomatoes nice and pruned as well. Keeps my tomatoes nice and healthy. Thanks for the video.
I noticed a big difference in both production and manageability. Though they can still run away from you (happened to me last year lol)
@@TheScoopesHomestead LOL yes they can. Especially after a heavy rain.
Oh man ain't that the truth! We unfortunately don't get much rain here. I believe we're about 5 inches a year on average. Versus Arkansas (where I grew up and am moving back to) which I believe is around 50 lol
I still have nothing outside. We are still getting frost here😢thanks for the video
Where abouts are you?
@@TheScoopesHomestead I’m in NY zone 6b
You'll be in the garden swing in no time
@@TheScoopesHomestead patiently but excitedly waiting for my outdoor activities to start 🤩
It used to be cheap Pete Moss was the cheapest thing you could buy now the price doubled if not tripled
Most of my grow bags contain peat moss. And when I first started this journey (about three years ago now) the cost was about half of what it is now. Pretty crazy.
Don't forget to check out the description for links to the trays I use and a soil test kit (if you are interested in testing your soil). Don't forget to like and subscribe!
Wow!! Amazing!! 😮❤
It's my first time growing garlic, so I've never seen anything like this before!

imagine to get the medicinal effects…you had to smoke the flower 😂
So I had to look this up, and apparently you can smoke this plant. I don't smoke, but apparently some people use it in their herbal blends!
@@TheScoopesHomestead what the heck! 😆 that’s interesting
Yeah anti-biotics also work well on bacterial infections crazy concept I know

Your peas look so nice & healthy! 😀
Thank you! Harvesting was a fun experience. Got about 3 gallons worth. But after shelling the peas, we ended up with about 3 quarts LOL. They were very delicious nonetheless!
WOW 😮 ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!❤
I have heard that its hot soil (hot roots) that causes broccoli bolting. Any way you can keep the broccoli roots cooler? Happy birthday to your kiddo!
Well, I can definitely see that being a cause. These are not in the same spot they were last year. Where they were before actually got more shade during the hotter times of the day. I might have to think about moving them!
I get it. Makes sense. Thanks for a new way to think of things.
Make sure to look both ways before crossing the railroad tracks!
Twice!
Looks like central MO this morning
Hello central Missouri! It's crazy. We don't get this very often. I grew up in northern Arkansas, and we'd get fig there, but not here in the desert.

This is the best cobbler ever. I cut the sugar in half and it was wonderful.
It's soooo tasty!
You forgot to add the 1/2 cup of possum 😆
Homemade yeast rolls are amazing! I can give you my grandmothers recipe if you would like?
That would be amazing!
@TheScoopesHomestead 2 packages yeast (the paper packs of Fleischmann's) 2 cups warm water- 180⁰ 1/2 cup MELTED Oleo (aka margarine but can use butter) 1/2 cup sugar One teaspoon salt Three eggs 6 1/2 cups flour, "may use more" Combine water and yeast, add sugar, salt and 3 cups of flour, beat until smooth. Add Oleo (or butter) and eggs, beat again. Stir in remaining flour- or enough to make dough easy to handle- knead well. Place in greased Bowl and cover w kitchen towel. Let rise until doubled. Shape into buns and put into well-greased pan. Cover and let rise again for 20 to 30 minutes. Bake at 350⁰ for 20min
@TheScoopesHomestead it's written in grandma style so you will have to work on the flour amounts. The recipe also doesn't specify what kind of flour. I would ask but she passed in April of this year and I just got her recipe book. These were always a huge hit at family dinners.
Can't wait to try this out. Would you mind me doing a video of me trying this recipe?
Sorry for your loss. I'm sure having her recipe books is a great way to honor her memory though.
Very helpful explanation, I want to try their wifi timer !
It is really good! I set the watering plans right from my phone and go! And I am able to have multiple plans.
Good stuff, solves the problem of no one watering my house plants while I'm traveling
The smart system we have in the garden actually came in handy when we went on our camping trip. Set it a go!
Great review! It looks very useful
This is the second system we have of theirs and it's amazing. I really do like it especially with their smart system.
