I've read 500 books, but THIS one was the best.
What if we think too much or ourselves and we don’t actually matter at all?
Our worth doesn’t come from our own opinion of ourselves, but from God’s opinion of us. In Matthew 10:29-31, Jesus reminds us of our immense value to God: ‘Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.’ We might be tempted to think we don’t matter, but the Creator of the universe knows us intimately and loves us deeply. That’s the ultimate measure of our worth. It’s not about thinking too highly of ourselves, but about recognizing our value as God’s creation and humbly living out His purpose for us.”
Life is a gift, and sin is only sin if you believe in a life of sin. In the believe that there's a soul, death is just the end of one learning experience to guide us to the next one. Death creates meaning for life. Why be negative?
You’re absolutely right that life is a gift! Every moment we have is an opportunity to seek purpose and truth. I think the Bible beautifully captures the value of life and its eternal significance. In Ecclesiastes 3:11, it says, ‘He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.’ This reminds us that life has meaning because it connects us to something greater-our Creator. While death can indeed bring perspective, God designed life not just as a temporary experience, but as a preparation for eternity (John 3:16). Sin, from a biblical standpoint, is less about belief and more about separation from God’s perfect design. Yet, through Jesus, we’re given hope, grace, and the ability to live joyfully and positively, even in the face of life’s challenges. Negativity isn’t necessary when we live in the light of that hope.
The meaning of life is to be useful.
Being useful-serving others and living with purpose-is central to a meaningful life. Galatians 5:13 says, ‘You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.’ Our usefulness is often found in how we impact others, reflect God’s love, and fulfill the unique purpose He’s given each of us. Ultimately, it’s not just about usefulness in a worldly sense, but about glorifying God and serving His Kingdom. That’s where true fulfillment is found!
That we would walk Holy and blameless before Him in love.
Snap back to reality
Ope, there goes gravity. It’s important to stay grounded-not just in reality, but in truth. Life can pull us in many directions, but the Bible encourages us to stay rooted in God’s word. In Colossians 2:7, it says, ‘Let your roots grow down into Him, and let your lives be built on Him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.’ When life pulls us down, God’s strength helps us stand firm. Reality may hit hard, but His truth gives us a firm foundation to rise above the weight of it all!
I don't understand how anyone can follow a book that condones slavery. Cruel and disgusting.
Very cool that you found the book for you! I haven't found the one that impacted me the most yet. Several ones have impacted me to this day and can't pick one yet. Still reading!
I know that feeling! Every new book I start I wonder if it’s going to be the one that solves all my problems. I’m beginning to think that “perfect” book doesn’t exist! 😉
Steppenwolf by Herman Hesse
Best book? _Shibumi_ by Trevanian.
I'm not a success, but I'm not a failure either.
I feel the same all the time. I think it is normal to feel this way. We win in certain areas of life and we lose at others. We try to improve a little each day and we try to find some happiness in those small victories. Thanks for sharing your feelings.
What book has impacted you the most in life?
How to Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie. Helped completely change my paradigm on how to communicate with others.
