1st Autumn Hike! My outdoor season has arrived!

Today we had our first autumn hike in Gatineau Park, Quebec. It's so lovely to be back in nature. It's an easy, well-maintained, and somewhat crowded trail. It's not my favorite type of trail but it's great to help me get back into hiking. The trail is Carbide Wilson and Meech Lake Falls Trail, parking 11. We have a quick review of this trail on Shorts, be sure to check it out!

This is our very first poopsie. It happened in Baie Comeau, Quebec. I still don't understand how could the dump station be full. It's a beautiful little town and seems really well-maintained. I thought the dump station would be directly hooked to the city sewage system. Anyways, have you had such an experience before? #AirstreamAdventure #rvlife #airstream #canadarvtrip
Airstreaming in the Quebec Wild North: Boondocking Challenge Failed (part 2)

A vlog for our first time attempting 10 days of dry camping. We found some minor "issues" after the Airstream was on the dirt road for 100km. It was a lovely trip and the surroundings were so different (bizarrely mesmserizing) up north. We can't wait to go back there again and f...

      @ are you sure you know what Lavio toilet actually is it is not a composting toilet please check the spelling and check into it. I just can’t understand why you wouldn’t think that would be the best thing ever in a camper, but I guess that’s why they sell bad tasting beersome people like bad tasting beer

      Do you mean Laveo toilet? Or "lavo", "Lavio" as you spelled? Maybe we are not talking about the same thing by any chance? If you mean Laveo, yes, we looked at it and decided it's not for us. I'm glad you find something that works for you and you love it. I understand our habit of water usage therefore the decision. I think it's normal that different people have different views. In the end, who is the ultimate judge of beer? It's more important to me that everyone finds their favorite cup.

    Phil, tremclad is great but on my truck box i had a coating sprayed in that protects the metal. Wonder if that area on the trailer you painted might be better protected by a spray on coating. Zhen, on our old trailer we washed the curtains each spring. The dust in a campsite as well as dirt roads really embeds itself in the curtains. But our new trailer has aluminum blinds so we just use a vacuum on them. Personally i preferred the material curtains but the blinds are so much more practical. Great video.

      @PhilZhen-gy8qk 14 днів тому

      Hi there. I looked at a more robust coating but they were more expensive when I compared price and coverage, but I'm inclined to agree. A spray on coating would be a great solution and would likely provide more protection and maybe for longer (hence maybe not more expensive... Yes, I'm taking myself into it)

    Wonder if their was a blockage in the main line?? It's definitely the campground issue. I often see people walk away while emptying their tanks. My wife or i are always at the hose area to monitor the process. We never take a chance.

    • @PhilZhen-gy8qk
      @PhilZhen-gy8qk 14 днів тому

      Yeah, I think it was a blockage and not a "full" dump station. This was a municipal dump station in a city (the North Shore of Quebec is listed with free dumps and potable water). I bet it was a diaper or something knarly like that... But yeah, stay close to the switches folks, you never know what could happen! 💩

    Great video. My wife and i are planning a similar trip so seeing this is helpful. I still think i am going to leave the trailer at home and use the truck roof top tent but nice to know the trailer is possible. And for the biting insects, yes they can be bad. I spent a lot of time for work in Labrador and the southern NWT. I have to say the NWT bugs are worse! Lol

      Glad you enjoyed it! I watched some of Bryan's videos and found them fun. Theory-wise, they’re informative; practice-wise, they’re impractical (for me, someone who isn't loaded and has a job and life to balance 😊). Personally, I prefer something achievable by ordinary people in daily life. I do enjoy reading about the latest studies and research on the human body, and I also appreciate ancient theories and practices that have been tried and tested on people for centuries.

    We tow a 2024 Casita with a 2024 Odyssey and get a fair amount of questions about this combination. BTW, we Tow at 60-65 MPH. IMHO, as long as you are operating within the Tow Vehicles Specs, i.e. Tongue Weight/GVWR you shouldn't have any problems! I've talked to Andy several times, about Towing recommendation and value his advice. However, in your application, I am sure you exceed the above Specs. I have over 50 years of Towing experience and 60 years as an Automotive Mechanic/Truck Sales Engineer for Commercial Trucks. If I was ever called upon, as an "Expert Witness," to testify about your application, I could not support!

    I think what people mean by “insurance won’t cover it” is, God forbid someone is in an accident while towing, and the investigation reveals that they are significantly over payload and hitch weight, the insurance company may not repair or replace the vehicle or trailer. It might also involve a traffic citation. I’d love to hear Mr. Thomson’s full presentation and how he addresses that issue.

    There was a solution to the problem of bugs coming in through the “fuzzy seal“ where the window levers are from all the way back in the 1970s! It was a piece of sliding plastic inside of a channel that attached to the window with adhesive. The plastic slid up and down and kept the bugs from coming in. I think someone needs to reinvent that and sell it again.

    I love your set up. If Can Am set it up, you are safe and fine. Nice long wheelbase on the van, and a nice low center of gravity. Plenty of engine to handle the weight. Lots of neigh sayers out there for sure. I do tow with a pick up, as I like the space, and also have other needs for the pickup so it is what I have. A VW Touareg would most certainly tow better than my truck when well set up, except it would not meet my other needs. I would not be worried in the least... you will see more poorly set up F250s upside down with their trailer than you will minivans. Continued safe travels.

    I also drove though Hwy 389/Lab Hwy 500 (from Ontario) as well, this year. It was in August. It was a great trip. I didn't seem to have too many issues with the flies. I think I was just lucky to be in 'a window' of good weather. I did notice the skies were a bit hazy from the smoke. The gravel roads were quite smooth, which was nice. I just got back from towing in NB where the limit is 110km/h (around 70mph). I was traveling at this speed very comfortably and went up to 120-130 (75-80) for the occasional pass. I usually (and prefer) travel at 80-90 (50-55) because it saves gas money! 🤑

    I've spoken with CanAm about this and when I last spoke with them a few years ago they hadn't done with this generation Odyssey yet. Do you monitor transmission temps? I don't believe it's possible to add a transmission cooler to the newer Odyssey's. Can you do a video or pictures with details of your setup? CanAm sent me pictures of the setup on an older Odyssey, but there are some changes with this generation that look to be challenging to me. Have you interacted with MrUKToad? He tows an airstream with a Sienna.
